Utilities / zip 300 and bzip2 1.0.5
2009.02.23, 01:06:43
I have just been playing around and threw together zip 3.00 and bzip2 1.05.  They can be downloaded here http://www.mgreene.org/wikka/HomePage if you are up to giving them a try.

Programming / Booting Notes
2008.05.17, 02:30:58

I have been killing some time trying to learn some ASM.  In the process I have been looking at how eCS boots and keep track of things on a couple pages.  In case anyone is interested:

Programming / rexxutil.dll clone

Any brave souls want to give this a try:

It is a rexxutil.dll replacement I have been playing with and now has a enough fixes to get ecsmt up and running.

Guess this is as good a place to post this as any. I purchase a MV2010 a week ago and thought the results would interest OS/2-eCS people.

Here is the ZDNet review:
http://review.zdnet.com/external-hard-drives/hp-media-vault-mv2010/4505-3190_16-32104818.html

I'm going to be brief, EAs do work on this drive. It requires that you set the drive up and create shares. Next the smb.conf file has to be modified to enable EAs and a script to copy smb.conf on MV startup.

I tried it with IBM Peer and it worked but have been mostly using samba with the NAS.

From the support board:

I found that the ReiserFS filesystem code in our release (1.3.5.9) of the HP/BroadNAS system was retro-fitted with extended attributes and ACLs. Furthermore, the NFS v3 code has also been equipped with Posix
xattr's/acl's. Both were not standard at the time of release of that kernel version, but I don't have any info from which code this was back-ported.

So, turning on the EA feature in Samba makes a lot of sense, wonder why they didn't do that by default.

Programming / Feedback

I started a simple device drive page - kind of a howto. It's not done yet but feedback is welcome.

Did sound work? I install on a Thinkpad T23 and sound would not work until I replaced uniaud32 with a newer version. Also, when installing on on my Thinkpad R51e ACPI hangs at the splash screen. My opinion, great progress but 2.0 needs more work.

Great article!

What versions of uniaud are people using and what problems does it cause?

I was looking through the testcfg source from the OS/2 Device Driver kit. I took a break and just did a couple random searches for something OS/2 related. I ended up reading this guys blog and realized his name (Jeff Muir) was the same name I had seen in the source file I was looking at from 1992. Just funny:

I just saw Martin's wikka, but it is very narrow do to the menus to the left and right. Should the wikka pages open in the browser window like the forum pages?

I also like how Sean Dennis posted the short article that showed up on the home page.
