What should one do, if running on Intel ICH9 family chipset and gets this out of ACPI:

This system does not support CPU Performance Control via ACPI.

This system does not support CPU Throttling.

Thermal information:
No Thermal information is available for this computer

Does it mean my system is so nonstandard?  :'(

Utilities / Burning CD/DVD on AHCI system?
2012.09.05, 14:19:43
Hello everyone,

is there a way of burning the CD/DVD media on AHCI system?

So far it seems that every burning solution needs some kind of SCSI support/masquerading, which does not seem to be working/possible on AHCI system.

Hardware / LVM-less USB MSDs?
2011.12.24, 23:02:03
Hello everyone,

for the last couple of year I'm steadily getting upset about USB devices.

It is quite usual that majority - if not all - USB MSD devices are normally readable in all the other OSes. This includes devices such as new USB thumb drives, external USB disks, Amazon Kindle etc.
It seems that eCS has still MAJOR issues with working with these devices, where 99% of these are not readily usable with the system (without any high-tech changed via LVM or DFSee), and approx 50% of these seem never to be able to work with eCS, no matter what you try. One of the main issues here seems to be extremely picky eCS disk "subsystems", which work in a way that if any non-standard setup is detected on USB device (today this covers 100% of the devices available!) the eCS just refuses to work with the device...  :'(

Does anybody have similar years of painful experiences? What about the possibility of having LVM-less USB MSDs (at last)?!  :'(

Hello everyone,

whilst trying to install the new eCS 2.1, I'm getting this crazy error on the harddrive check:

"A partition on this disk has a mis-aligned boot sector which is causing it to overlap the location designated for the Drive Letter Assignment Table. (This problem may occur with certain Linux-based partitioning tools.)"

Ok, ok - yes, I admit, I did have some time ago some newer kind of Ubuntu installed together with one of those new versions of GRUB ;) And I basically understand the problem itself (although I have really no idea why i.e. GRUB would like to do such a nastiness to an innocent JFS partition belonging to a different OS).

Now - my question is of course: is there a (non-destructive) way of fixing the "mutated" extended partition?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello everyone.

First of all: Merry Christmas! :)

Second: I'm urgently in need of some older Firefox version that still had full printing support (I suppose it would be some 2.x.x.x version).

Does anybody know where to get/download it?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello everyone,

now I returned from a prolonged weekend in Florence and Pisa (Italy) with my friends.
We had a great time, with exceptional sightseeing, culture and cuisine.

It was necessary for us to travel from Pisa airport to Florence (and back four days later at the end of our trip). The train services are being provided by Trenitalia, which employs lots of self-service terminals for ticket ordering at each station.

There are several types of terminals with varying ease of use, all of them are touch screen operated. These terminals seem to be used across the whole Italy. And guess what - all of them are OS/2 operated :)

The first thing that struck my eyes was the "warpish" design of the interface and buttons, but the most visible OS/2-like feature were quite ugly fonts. Nevertheless, all of this was just a circumstantial evidence. But later I was was given a direct proof, that the terminals are Warp4 operated - one of the terminals seemed to face some troubles (see the first photo) :) Also, when touching the screens, you could recognize the standard Warp4 mouse pointer and hourglass design.

On the second photo you can see the type of tickets coming out of the Warp-operated terminals.

All in all, the trip was great, with a huge surprise from Trenitalia :)

Hello everyone.

Recently I realized I have a need for some photo/graphics editing stuff, so I wanted to start GIMP (2.2.8).
In order to use GIMP it seems that the only option (for me) is to use Hoblink X11 server as X server emulation.

I was very surprised that I did not find HobX11 on eCS 2.0GA CD2 - as opposite to eCS 1.2R CD2, where the files were present and working.

Now if I try to install this 1.2R version of HobX11 on 2.0GA, I get the warning about license agreement violation and HobX11 will not start.
So this brings a slightly disturbing question: is there a way of either running HobX11 or some other way of running GIMP on eCS 2.0GA currently?!

Please help.  :'(

Applications / JFS (de)Fragmentation
2010.07.15, 19:47:18
Hello everyone.

- Is there a way how to analyze (and show) the current JFS volume fragmentation?
- are there any (fully functional) tools to defrag JFS?

Thanks in advance.

Utilities / Eclipse (php) in eCS?
2009.10.04, 22:00:15
Hello there.

Did anybody here even try to run it?  ???

Hello everyone.

recently I tried to play with multiple desktops and after some fighting, trials&errors, fighting again and trying everything possible I still did not succeed.

What I was trying to do was basically just copy the standard desktop to other location (dir), but each time the desktop was "incomplete" (things missing, broken links (all of them), empty folders....).

Anybody (successfully) tried this?

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone.

Just bought a new notebook with Intel Link 5100 wireless.
Trying to resurrect it with XP drivers via unsupported mode in GenMac.
All goes more/less well, but xwlan is stating that it does not see any wireless driver, so there does not seem to be the way to know the XP driver is working for sure.

Anybody here any experience with this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

I recently tried to use FPC for some pascal programming, specifically because FPC is quite compatible with Delphi syntax. That is how it happened, that at last I'm able to use pascal-based SDL (Jedi SDL) for pascal based SDL applications.

I run into trouble though, when tried to use multithreading on ma apps. It seems that no matter what I try the FPC is absolutely useless, even the basic threading does not work. Moreover, the debug output from apps seems to be useless as well. And on top of the things - FPC is able to compile only EMX based aplications.

Does anybody have any experience in using FPC and trouble shooting the above stated issues? :-[

Multimedia / Looping sound
2009.07.26, 23:14:09
Hello everyone.

I'm experiencing lots of loop-sounds with any of the multimedia applications for the last months.
The applications affected are MPlayer, Z! and EmperoarTV.

Loops are occuring from time to time on mplayer without any specific reason. They are also occuring almost every time there is a high system load, caused by other applications.

This is sometimes getting very frustrating because sometimes it is impossible to watch video or listen to  music on background while doing other work.

Does anybody here has the same experience? ....and suggestions on how this can be dealt with? ???
