Hey there! The bad news is that on the Windows side, the Mozilla Release Engineering team has decided to upgrade their Windows compilers to Visual Studio 2010 meaning that they won't be able to build Firefox on Windows 2000, Windows XP RTM, Windows XP SP1 or Windows Server 2003 RTM affecting .4% of these users. The discussion can be found on Asa Doltzer's blog here: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2012/01/end_of_firefox_win2k.html :(

Just curious enough to ask. Are we going to plan any future versions of Firefox after Firefox 12 for OS/2 and eComStation?

What compilers will we use to create custom build versions of Firefox 13 (and beyond) on OS/2 or eComStation and will the system requirements be changed on the OS/2 side as well?

Post your thoughts about this issue.

I have a problem here. I was trying to use the updated installation diskettes from the WarpDocter Clinic: http://www.warpdoctor.org/lib/info/idehdd.html

I downloaded the updated installation diskette for the OS/2 Warp 3 Red Spine (w3r-disk1_cd) and in it, there is a updated version of DISK1.DSK, when I tried to open it with WinImage, the information was blank and was unable to read the data.

I also tried to use a utility called DSKXTRCT to try to extract the contents of DISK1.DSK to the virtual drive A: with the following command:

DSKXTRCT /S:C:\DISK1.DSK /T:A:\

I managed to not bother about replacing the DKSKXTRCT.LOG, but when I tried to extract the contents of the DISK1.DSK file, I end up getting this error message:

Processing input file: C:\DISK1.DSK
DskBufOffset, invalid buffer address, past buffer: 29608d6
Exiting due to fatal error

What am I doing wrong here? If the disk image is corrupt, is there another way to update the Warp 3 installation diskettes?

Has anyone successfully attempted to install and run Internet Explorer 5 (16-bit) under Win-OS/2? ???

I have some sort of a problem here. I'm attempting to install Internet Explorer 5 (16-bit) under Win-OS/2 and IE5 setup complains about not being able to find any files to install. According to this screenshot here: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/269/ie5winos2.png/

It claims that the disk labeled "Internet Explorer 5 (Core) for Win 3.1" is now required.

This disk is provided by your computer manufacturer.

Click OK to continue.

When I click OK, it says the following:

The file " on Internet Explorer 5 (Core) for Win 3.1 could not be found."

Insert &Internet Explorer 5 (Core) for Win 3.1 into the drive selected below, and click OK.

When I click on Details, it says the following:Error Details

The following error occurred: 'Unknown Error' (error #7b).

Setup could not finish opening a file on the source disk.

Source file: 'E:\INSTALL\IE50\'
Destination file: '='

The error repeats on other components that I'm attempting to install and the IE5 installation does not proceed any further. I've been searching for articles on attempting to run 16-bit Internet Explorer under Win-OS/2 and one article claimed that IE4 should run under Win-OS/2 without problems. Another forum post from October 2007 claimed that it takes a lot of hacks to get IE5 setup working under Win-OS/2, but fail to properly detail on how to get IE5 installed properly.

IE5 requires SHARE to be loaded at startup, however there is no SHARE available for the OS/2 DOS session. OS/2 resides on Drive C and Win-OS/2 programmes reside on Drive E.

Are there any hacks to get IE5 16-bit to setup and run properly under Win-OS/2? If IE5 does not work under Win-OS/2, then I'm gonna have to remove the IE5 setup directory.

I got IE5 to work under Windows NT 3.51 (under Virtual PC and VMware) without problems though.

You know, I can't keep coming back for help, but there is one issue that has been puzzling me since I reinstalled OS/2 Warp 4.

For quite a while, I been playing around with the OS/2 VM and all of a sudden, the virtual machine stops responding off and on and I have to hit the right CTRL key+DELETE (CTRL-ALT-DELETE) to reboot.

When I reboot and look at the System Error Logs, I found a bunch of errors referencing to PMWP.DLL (the file required to load the WorkPlace Shell). I installed WatchCat 2.1 (shareware), programmed the CTRL+X key to terminate processes that have stopped responding and the latest incident involved after unzipping files using WarpZip causing the WorkPlace Shell (WPS) to hang hard to a point where the clock no longer moves and pressing CTRL+X does not even work.

Here's a screenshot of what the logs look like so far: http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/710/pmwpsyslog.png

Opening up the recent SYSLOG entry (Entry 138) gives the following details:

The errors have been occurring since I installed FixPack 15 and logs date back to the 29th of April.

Is there any way to fix the gremlins in PMWP.DLL and PMSHELL.EXE that have been causing the Workplace Shell to hang hard or is this normal?

I've been looking for answers on how to isolate the problem via Google and it hasn't been much of a help. I even replaced the PMWP.DLL file with a newer one from 23 July 2002, but I still don't know if it's going to fix the problem or not. The PMWP.DLL file that was included in FP15 was dated 15 November 2000.

Should I also update the SYSLOGPM.EXE files as there are still bugs in the file that causes the deletion date and time to not format correctly? If you want more info about this, I can explain.

Okay, I have this issue after I restart OS/2 Warp on VPC and it's been going off and on.

After applying updates to the CONFIG.SYS file and upon reboot, I get a TRAP 000e error referencing the offending module SOCKETS. The file is located in C:\MPTN\PROTOCOL\SOCKETS.SYS and has a date stamp of 27 March 2000. Here's a copy of the error message that I'm getting:

QuoteException in module: SOCKETS

The system is stopped.  Record all of the above information and
contact your service representative.

After this message, the system does not continue booting and I have to use the right CTRL+DELETE key to reboot. And on the second (or third reboot) the TRAP 000e error referencing to SOCKETS does not occur until the next modification.

I did a search for TRAP 000e and SOCKETS on Google and a lot of things could be causing the network on startup to be not 100% perfect.

Is this error message caused by a serious bug in the 32-bit TCP/IP Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) or remnants of 16-bit code in the MPTS?

If that's case, I installed TCP/IP 4.1, then I applied MPTS 5.4 (WR08610) and then MPTS (WR08621). Should I uninstall TCP/IP and MPTS completely and reinstall it (including the WR08621 update) again?

Update: I'm currently making a backup of the first hard disk image incase I screw things up. Reinstalling TCIP/IP 4.1 and MPTS would require a reinstallation of both Netscape and Java 1.1, I recall.

Has anyone run into this problem lately?

For me, it's been nearly two weeks since I reinstalled OS/2 Warp 4 under Virtual PC 2004 and most recently, I'm starting to have some problems lately.

When I right click on the search engine box whatever it's in Google or Yahoo!, a bunch of dialog boxes corrupt the display, Firefox 4.0.1 crashes and I end up receiving this error message:

SYS3171: A program in this session encountered a problem and cannot continue.

When I click on Display register information, I get the following according to this screenshot: http://imageshack.us/m/12/658/pmmergeerror.png

The error message in this screenshot mentions PMMERGE.DLL and that due to insufficient stack space, the exception was not dispatched. The PMMERGE.DLL file that I'm using is from FixPak 15 (datestamp 19 October 2000, 9:04 PM).

The right click problem does not effect SeaMonkey 2.0.14 (Gecko 1.9.1) and the legacy Mozilla web browser. This only occurs in the latest version of Firefox built under Gecko 2.0.

Is there a way to fix the PMMERGE.DLL problem to make it work properly with Firefox 4?

I need a bit of help here.

I recently created a larger 4 GB hard disk image under Virtual PC in a attempt to replace the 2 GB hard disk image. I entered this command at the command prompt to copy the contents of the old hard disk image to the newer one:

xcopy /h /o /t /s /e /r /v

When the XCOPY cloning process gets finished, it does NOT preserve the timestamp for directories from the original hard disk.

For example, the C:\OS2 directory had the 29 July 2009 time stamp on the old hard disk image and the newer one found on drive D: had the date stamp of 1 August 2008!

I tried numerous utilities (Clonezilla, DFSee, etc.) to clone the data from the old hard disk image to the newer one and OS/2 wouldn't even boot.

Are there any freeware or shareware replacements for XCOPY that will support the preservation of keeping the existing date and time creation of the directory from the old hard disk?

Thanks! :)

(By the way, I'll get back to my other forum thread when someone finds a solution to this problem.)

Hey there! I'm new to the OS/2 World.com forums and I'm running into a bit of a problem attempting to get OS/2 Warp 4 properly recognise hard disk images larger than 8.4 GB under Virtual PC 2004.

I set up a virtual machine with a 12 GB hard disk image and allocated 128 MB of memory.

I used the modified installation diskettes from this website that allowed hard disks (and other media) larger than 8.4 GB (7.88 GB binary) to be recognised without problems. I even used the updated IBM IDEDASD with Intel Serial ATA and Parallel ATA controller support (idedasd.exe) dated 3 March 2004 and the updated kernel dated 26 October 2001 (internal revision 14.085_W4).

I also used a utility called Ranish Partition Manager 2.4 to attempt to resize the hard disk image to 12 GB in hopes that OS/2 Warp would recongise the whole drive. The Fixed Disk Utility (fdiskpm) reported that the hard disk has a capacity of 12,284 MB (11.99 GB). However, the Disk Space Monitor is reporting 7,857 MB (7.67 GB) free. Here is the example screenshot:

http://a.imageshack.us/img443/3166/os284gberror.png

Also, when I ran CHKDSK at the OS/2 Command Prompt, these are the results that I'm getting:

The current hard disk drive is: C:
The type of file system for the disk is HPFS.
The HPFS file system program has been started.
CHKDSK is searching for lost data.
CHKDSK has searched 100% of the disk.
   8225248 kilobytes total disk space.
1076 kilobytes are in 357 directories.
165413 kilobytes are in 4102 user files.
1363 kilobytes are in extended attributes.
2048 kilobytes are reserved for system use.
8055346 kilobytes are available for use.

It seems that even if I patch the kernel and the drivers, OS/2 is still not properly recongising the hard disk image beyond the 8.4 GB limit.

How do I fix this to make OS/2 recognise the full 12 GB capacity on the hard disk image? :(
