Marketplace / Re: Developer looking for VisualAge C++

I can only think of a one project off the top of my head using VAC 3.08 (XWorkplace) and Odin currently uses VAC3.65 (VAC3.08 may still work but haven't tried recently).  VAC 4 is used for Larsen Commander.  VAC is probably being used for some closed projects but those I can't speak to.  Most other projects are using GCC or OpenWatcom.  I'm not sure where to get a copy of VAC at this point, that is one reason that Odin is wanting to move to GCC (and I've put some time previously into using OW but never got it there).

Anyone using this with SMP enabled?  I had used it with some of the early RCs with SMP enabled and about every other boot or so it would use 50+% of my CPUs.  I don't know if it was a problem with the SMP itself or the fact that it was seeing two CPUs due to hyperthreading (single core, single CPU but 2 CPUs seen with hyperthreading).

I am fully aware that my RAMFS solution can be only used for smaller projects for obvious reasons.
Hmm, this causes me to ponder... on 64 bit machines with over 4G of memory (e.g. 8G), would it be possible to write a device driver that could turn the memory over 4G into a RAMFS?

autodrv2.sys is part of the pcmcia drivers... I don't recall specifically what it does.

Java is what the kids are taught in colleges anymore.  I've talked to some of them going to school over the last several years as well as when I was considering going back to school and checking into degree programs found that you can hardly even find a C course, some C++ but mostly Java.  For degrees with programming emphasis, Java is often required but C++ is an elective and several I looked at didn't even have C.

With the latest 3/28 release of Odin, I think the problems with libpathstrict should be resolved so that would be handy to be checked too.

You should consider porting GL/2 to REXX/OS.

Not sure which one it installed... I have my Ubuntu on JFS.

I downloaded the installer and the installer ran fine but when it gets to the point of what modules to install there are no modules available.  I went ahead and forged on and at the end it had created a folder with the uninstaller, nothing else.  I then looked at the jnlp version and there are two versions...

"You have the choice to start Jake2 with jogl OpenGL driver and joal OpenAL driver or to use lwjgl as OpenGL and audio library. The lwjgl version has the advantage of better fullscreen support especially on linux and it is slightly faster than jogl. But there are still some keyboard issues with the lwjgl version (deadkeys and repeats are not handled properly). So try out both versions and use the one you like better."

I installed grub from Ubuntu 9.04 onto a machine with WIndows and OS/2 (including BM) by doing as my previous post said of not allowing it to install grub to the MBR.  I was not able to get it to work by installing grub to the Ubuntu boot partition but had to instead create a 7MB grub partition.  I added the grub partition to BM and now it boots first to BM and if I select for the Ubuntu it goes to Grub.  I have since upgraded the distribution a few times and am now at Ubuntu 10.10.

Ivan, were your friends able to make any progress on the synergy server?

I have a triple boot Windows, Ubuntu, eCS system (had had two but removed windows from one of them).
What I did to get around the MBR issue was to create a 7Mb partition that I installed grub into and had it update that partition instead of the MBR.  I ended up having to have the 7MB partition because when I tried to add it to the main Ubuntu partition it would not work.

Mentore, I had also sent you an email about the changes... it may have gone into a spam bucket or something.

General Discussion / Re: Customizing OS/2
« on: 2011.03.06, 04:46:13 »
Object Desktop for OS/2 precedes Windowblinds by several years.  I have not used Object Desktop but I have certainly never heard of any complaints of speed issues under OS/2.  I knew some folks that used the Windowblinds and as I recall it did seem a little problematic but that was never something I have heard of in the OS/2 product.

I know there were reports of it working with Word Viewer and I think Excel viewer... I believe the 97 viewers were the ones being reported as working at the time.  I have not heard any reports of the Office products working.
