Setup & Installation / Re: Partitioning HD with OS2 Warp 4
« on: 2008.09.01, 15:42:20 »
I would recommend for all disk partitioning activities DFSee. From the bootable CD (maybe there's a boot disk for download available too) create all partition and install the boot manager within DFSee. Create your DOS partitions at the begining right after the boot manager and behind that a logical for OS/2. 650MB is more than enough for the OS. Mark this partition as installable (within DFSee) and start the Warp installation afterwards.

Maybe it's wise to wipe off all partitions before with DFSee. But don't forget to reboot after that and create your partitions (inclusive boot manager) afterwards.

Applications / Re: Similar SW as Skype? For eCS and Win.
« on: 2008.08.22, 12:53:54 »
Having been 8 years since I had looked at ic phone, I had forgotten it requires a server and I can't find an active one so far.
To bad.  I guess the server application would not run on eCS, and if yes, it would not be available for free, true?

Applications / Similar SW as Skype? For eCS and Win.
« on: 2008.08.21, 12:55:02 »
Is there a similar software than skype which let you talk over IP between eCS an Win systems?

Basically I would need only a voice connection between two dedicated systems over the internet. One running Win, the other eCS. No need for dial in services to others. Of course, skype similar services would be convenient. But at first I have 2 dedicated systems and the eCS system even do have a static IP.

Applications / Re: Problems with the System module

....any higher as the System module is hiding in the background.  It shows up in the window list, in TOP and even if I CTRL-right click the Warpcenter window list button...but nothing seems to bring it to the front.

Maybe I misunderstood your posting but, could it be that it is not in the 'background' but beyond the visual screen? In this case ALT F7 would be your friend.

Not sure which version of eCS it was, but there was at least one which comes with dummy drivers for AIC7xxx instead of the regular ones. I don't remember exactly, but I think I've installed on an IDE first, changed the driver and copied the whole partition to the scsi drive afterwards.

Maybe it's worth to check the driver on the cd.

Hardware / Re: Hardware report ASAP
« on: 2008.08.05, 13:10:26 »
Eugene, we're here in a forum with a lot of 'die hard' OS/2 - eCS users. No need for overstated advertisement here. From my experience and from what I read, and even from the mobo section on ecomstation.ru I got the impression, that ACPI partitially works on a lot of systems. But by far not perfect on most of them. A lot of users get some stuff to work sometimes after heavy manual intervention. But there are other things that do not work, regardless what the 'experienced user' is able to try out.

I'm sure you know the ACPI bugtracker much better than I. And you know the number of closed tickets whenever a new ACPI version comes out, where only the original submitter gave up on repeating the same thing again with every new version which came out. Of course there is progress, but we are far away from 'works perfectly'.

Thanks for your hint on danis. But I'm using 1.8.5 anyway since a while. Or do you think 1.8.1 works better?

I really appreciate your work. But 'works perfectly' is not the correct translation for what I think you wanted to say ;-)

I would like to do that. But first I've bought a new hdd cause there's no space left on the current drive to install another eCS version. Got it before weekend and attached it on the second SATA. But, the current working eCS2.0rc2 (+updates) installation traps (0e in os2kernel) with this second SATA drive connected. My main drive is SATA too.

Looking for the DFSee BootCD and made a few partitions on that drive and now eCS2.0rc2 boots without trap and sees the new partitions. Weird, eCS is not able to boot when there's a new unpartitioned drive attached.

Now tried to install eCS2.0rc5 - but, it does not boot. It hangs when copying to the ramdrive. Remove 2GB RAM and try again. No chance. Burn another install CD and try again - same as before. No chance to boot from rc5 CD.

It's so frustrating when trying to install eCS on modern hardware these days.

Oh yes, sometimes I will have rc5 running on this box for sure. And I'll give feedback. But there's to much work and to less time... And there's a daytime job too. Otherwise I would not be able to buy all this stuff I'm playing in my spare time.

Enough moaning, have to work before my boss sees what I'm doing here....

Which NIC and which driver? Do you know how the interrupts were/are assigned witch 3.09/3.10?

I've found two notes about that -

1.
Unter Windows 2003: Start->ausführen-> gpedit.msc
Unter
Computerkonifiguration
->Windows-Einstellungen
->Sicherheitseinstellungen
->Lokale Richtlinien
->Sicherheitsoptionen

die Richtlinie "Netzwerksicherheit: LAN Manager-Authentifizierungesebene"
von "Nur NTLM-Antworten senden" auf "LM- und NTLM_Antworten senden"
ändern.

Try to translate -
Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc
Configuration - security - local ... -> options - network security from "LAN Manager..." change to "LM- and NTLM-...."

2.
Mit RegEdit in Windows 2000 oder XP unter:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters
mit "Bearbeiten" und "Neu" den "DWORD"-Wert "EnableDownLevelLogOff" und
den Wert "1" hinzufügen.
Weiterhin sollte man das Passwort unverschlüsselt senden
"EnablePlainTextPassword = 1".

Try to translate -
with regedit in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters
New Key "EnableDownLevelLogOff" and DWORD value 1
and
New Key "EnablePlainTextPassword" and DWORD value 1

This are infos I've found over the years. I've a Notebook with XP which works with Warp Server. Another one with XP works too, but there is IBM Primary Logon installed. Both can see the Domain ressources. W98 and W2k works too, of course. Not tried with Vista and hopefully never have to do...

Hello BigWarpGuy,

HP CLJ 25x0 work great for me with the eCS standard drivers, tried both PLL, USB and Network (Ln-model).
.....
//Jan-Erik
If I remember correct, the HP 2550 and 2500 are completly different in that way, that the 2550 supports PCL and PS, but the 2500 is windows GDI crap only. If my memory serves me well, the 2500 came out at the time I bought a color laser printer and it was the first time I didn't by a laser from HP. Older models and newer one do have PCL and PS, but not the 2500.

Edit: Text deleted cause it was nonsens, sorry.

SETUP.CMD reads:
rate -fh
arp -f
ifconfig lo  127.0.0.1
REM ifconfig lan0
...
REM ifconfig lan7
REM ifconfig s10
ipgate off.

================

Here I miss a line like 'dhcpstrt -i lan0' as posted above.

If you use static ip adresses like I do, then there should be lines like -
ifconfig lan0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 mtu 1492
route add default 192.168.0.x   (address of your dsl router)

Of course you can use the gui tools as suggested, but you can change these things on the fly by cli too. Simply try in a command window
ifconfig lan0 192.168.0.1
and see if there is an error message like 'ioctl (SIOCAIFADDR): Invalid argument'. If yes, I'm pretty sure your network card driver is not loaded, or could not find the card. You have to use mpts in this case to install the correct driver and bind tcpip to it.

Maybe it helps if you post your \ibmlan\lantran.log

Regarding DHCP - manuall address or DHCP should be set in \mptn\bin\setup.cmd

Maybe you'll post this file too.

Marketplace / Re: OS/2 motherboards
« on: 2008.06.09, 12:55:56 »
A few boards are mentioned on ecomstation.ru (hardware). There was a disussion at commtalk.de (in german) the last days about this topic and I think on news.ecomstation.com too. Maybe you have a look there.

Basically nearly every board should work with eComStation. I think for Warp3 it would be not that easy. But with updated IDE drivers (DANIS...) maybe even your current installation, copied on a new harddisk or even on the old one, would work too. But drivers for onboard sound and nic could be a problem.

If you consider buying standard industrial boards, I think your chances are even better. But I fear you have to try it out by yourself. Best chances are with eCS1.2r or eCS2.0rcx.

If it's a problem with some widget, you can try to disable all and reenable 1 by one. One methode is to delete all dlls (make a backup before) from the plugins directory which in your case is in C:\ecs\system\ewps\plugins\xcenter.
