I'm using Virtual Box ver 2.0.2_ose and running it in Mandriva 2009. I've tried loading both RC-6a and the "Silver Edition #2" with the same results.

I'm using eCs silver release #2, and RC6a -- can't get either off the ground. VT-x is enabled and "inside virtual machine" option is enabled. Supposedly VT-x hardware virtualization is no longer a requirement, but a plus if available (according to Sun's VBox forum). These latest Linux versions (ose) have eCs configuration an option when setting up the virtuar box parameters, and VT-x is automatically checked (and can't be unchecked) in the VBox settings.

I give up for tonight! Thanks warpcafe & miturbide for the help

Using VirtualBox OSE in Linux when installing eCs 2.0 it hangs when "Loading KBDBASE.SYS"!  Anybody have either a solution for this or a "work-around"?

Is there a way I can do a RC6a install from the CD that will load the SMP kernel rather than theW4 IBM 14.104a kernel? On one particular machine I can install RC5 (which installs the SMP kernel) without problems, but RC6a craps out with a Kernel crash in the last phase of the install. Before I decide to make a feedback report reguarding this problem I would like to have more information to pass on about the problem, plus I really am not convinced its a problem with RC6a and suspect the mobo might have problems.

Thanks for any feedback

Networking / Re: Re-Install MPTS? --How to?

Hey Pete, thanks for the response, in the meantime I did a new install as I couldn't make x:\ECS\INSTALL\MPTS.CMD work. Its so long since I'd used it, that I'd forgotten about the Install/Remove -> Selective Install for Networking option (which I'm sure would have worked)!  I'll try that option next time I screw up MPTS.

thanks again

RC6a, --- I inadvertantly un-installed MPTS, will some "kind soul" tell me how to recover from my "screw-up"?

thanks

Go to http://en.ecomstation.ru and click on Hardware, then Printers and you will see a pretty much up to date listing & comments of printers (Laser included) that work with Os2/eCs!

Is there a file system that is completely transparent across both OSs? yet retain the advantages of both?

Ben , that is a problem I've been trying to resolve off and on, for over a year now (and have gotten nowhere!). Hopefully someone out there  has a usable solution that will allow us users of both OS's to interchange files & directories with ease.

I've tested this procedure on a couple of machines now and the following procedure seems to work with SBLive as well as Uniad and can be installed on partitions other than Boot drive "C".
1: Install VT from the eCS 1.2 CD#2
2: Reboot
3: Set up a user
Continuing now will cause the program to fail
4: Next delete these three directories (SPCH_BIN, SPCH_RO, & SPCH_RUN) from the VT directory created by the eCs 1.2 CD#2 install -- Do not delete the SPCH_BSF & SPCH_RW directories.
5: Copy these same three directories form the Warp 4 VT directory into the VT directory created by the eCs 1.2 CD#2
6: VT should now function without problems.
If someone could fill me in on the legalities of posting these three Warp 4 directories as a "Fix" for VT, I would be willing to post these directories on my web site as a download for people that do not have a Warp 4 CD. You cannot make VT function using these three directories without a Warp 4 or Ecs 1.2 CD#2, so I'm thinking that posting these directories  might possibly be acceptable .
However I would first like to hear other peopl's views first.

Saijin, I'd be glad to, --- BUT, I believe this is not permitted, especially distributing off the Warp 4 CD. We need to get some other responses as to whether I can do this or not!
Hey, Robert M -- where are you?

Well, I installed the version of VoiceType that came on the Warp 4 CD and it works GREAT!!  Looks like the version that came on the eCs 1.2 CD#2 is probably screwed up.
This is running on eCs 2.0-rc4 with a SBLive sound card.

Thanks for all the input from everyone    klipp

Hey David!! Thanks for you're reply! At least now we know two things. It will work with eCs 2.0 and it doesn't have to be installed on Boot Drive "C" anymore. I only have the version that was on the 1.2 CD#2 -- possibly thats the problem! WoW! I just dug up my old Warp 4 CD and the readme file verify's that VoiceType can be installed on drives other than "C".  I guess the next thing to try is installing the Warp 4 version of VoiceType in eCs-rc4 , problem is, I've forgotten how to install it from the Warp 4 CD.

I'm glad to see more interest in getting Voice Type to work in eCs. --- obiwan, I have installed Voice Type on another machine with SBLive sound card and get the same results. I really don't believe now that its a problem with the sound card. The next thing I'm going to try is installing eCs 1.2r on this same machine with the SBLive card, in the boot drive C: and see if it will work, I don't believe it will!  Hope I'm wrong!
Like I've posted earlier, it installs fine, lets you set up a user, but then when the "check installation" is selected, it craps out with the message "Establishing a session with Speech Recignizer failed (rc=30). [chk2014]"
This is the message that I get on four different machines all using different sound cards & drivers.
It would help if there was any useful information available for describing the different error conditions that can occur. The "Help Files" in Voice Type are pathetic at best.

Thanks for the interest in trying to solve this problem and I'll get back with any new information I can uncover.

Hi Robert! As my previous post states, On this test setup I'm using a SBLive sound card. I've also tried Using SB16 & Unaid.  At this point I really don't believe its a Soundcard problem, the error message remains the same (as described in one of the previous posts on this topic) reguardless of the soundcard being used. I now believe this has to be somethnig  related to eCs! (possibly LVM ??) -- I wish I knew!

thanks for you're interest

Well, Using a new install of eCs-rc4 on the boot drive C: of a box with a SBLive soundcard installed and the fixpack installed (BTW the version of Voice Type on the eCs 1.2 CD2 does have the updated files!) it still fails the same way as I described above.
Looks like Voice Type is not usable with eCs.
I wish someone would prove me wrong!
