Here it starts up but crashes soon after. And the option dialog displays some drawing problems. Looks like a driver issue to me. Maybe it would help to use a lower resolution / color depth. I'm running at 1600x1200x64k.

Something I'd like to see added is information about when the devices were manufactured and the devices' capabilities.

I hate to say this but I think a Wiki is not really suitable for this kind of project, mainly because you cannot search with sets of criteria and the display is likely to become convoluted.

Hm, are there any RAD tools for developing database applications for Joomla? I know that there are one or two nice ones for TYPO3 but I haven't looked into Joomla for quite a while.

Open Bounties / Re: QT 4.x framework Port

I don't know if it's such a good idea. Look at how people react to the OpenOffice.org Service Agreement. They just won't stop whining about "having to pay for Open Source software" and accusing Mensys/SSI of violating the license. Well, yes, some have shut up after being told that they are free to get the source code -- which is available -- and build it themselves. But it seems that many are just biting the bullet because there is no alternative. Extending that model to other applications might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Sad but true.

Hi everybody,

A few weeks ago I offered software and books for sale or free. Since almost no-one fulfilled my request to make a bid for the things they were interested in, many items are still available.

To add to the incentive: If you give proof that you have donated a minimum of 50 Euro to the Qt4 project after October 5, 2009, you can get something from the list below for just the cost of shipping. This is with two exceptions: The items Warp Server Advanced and Visual Age C++ with tons of printed documentation require a minimum donation of 100 Euros.

Shipping costs vary between 5 Euros for locations inside Germany to 25 Euro for locations in Australia and Asia.

Please note that I cannot determine if floppy disks still work.

but i can't state it enough i guess. first we need to finish the Qt4 port. And when ppl really look to the already sponsored units, we have a long way to go.

so please ppl try out what we have report possible bugs and send money.

First bug report for SMPlayer 0.6.8 beta 1 is filed. Looks really promising.

As for the money, I cannot afford donating to the project at the moment.

Open Bounties / VLC and WxWidgets

We have a Wxwidgets library for eCS. Why would it have been impossible?

Because WxWidgets was never completed and lacked all kinds of important functionality.

Open Bounties / VLC port with Qt4
2009.10.02, 14:38:51
Hi,

I just found out that there is another very interesting apps that could be ported when Qt4 is available: VLC, the Video Lan player. Previously this would have neither been possible nor feasible because VLC used the WxWidgets GUI library, was rather clumsy to use, and had many security issues. But the developers have switched to Qt4 and have apparently improved the app across the board. What makes this interesting is the fact that it's not just a player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html

The required libraries are listed here: http://wiki.videolan.org/Contrib_Status

You can install eCS in a HPFS or JFS partition. HPFS supports partition sizes up to 64 GB. The eCS installer comes with a partitioning tool called MiniLVM that is invoked when you press "Create volume" in the respective installer page. Not automatic but rather easy to use.

Hi Christian,

you edited your original message recently, striking out some items. Does it mean someone already got them ?

No mathematica anymore :-(

Yes. Since I didn't hear back from you after replying to your initial message, I sold it to somebody else.

It's not IRQ load as the respective line in the XCenter widget remains flat, and I am not aware of any parameters for the plugin.

Well, the problem is that I only have one machine and need to exchange the data between the OSes. Using a thumb drive would mean writing to FAT32 under OS/2 which is less than stellar too. Most of the time, I just copy things to my HPFS boot drive and access that from Windows using the PINBALL.SYS driver which is pretty fast. But that driver does not work correctly with partitions over 4 GB. Argh!

Storage / NetDrive NTFS write performance
2009.09.21, 17:36:33
Hi,

I've been using the NTFS plugin for NetDrive to access my Windows XP partition for a while now. No cases of data loss and the read performance is acceptable. However, the write performance is abysmal. I started copying a 750 MB file to the NTFS drive almost 2 hours ago and it's still running, causing 10 to 40% CPU load on an Athlon 64 XP 3500+ single core CPU. Does anybody know any way to improve the performance?
#43
It depends on your CPU and motherboard.

The current implementation of ACPI for eCS does not support AMD's PowerNow and Cool 'n Quiet features. Your best chance then would be to have a look in the BIOS setup of your motherboard. I have an ASUS board that supports something like fan profiles called QFan. If I select the lowest, the system is about as quiet as when booted to Windows. Still, the processor frequency is not reduced when idle.

If you have an Intel board, you can try the SetGetState and SetGetThrtl utilities that come with ACPI and the patched kernel from the betazone. Also have a look at your BIOS settings.

Well, could be that the file simply was not transferred correctly. The link "Alderhouse Info" returns a page not found error here.

As for generators creating valid content, I can tell you from my experience as a web designer that those things are a pretty good way to ensure that the code is not valid.

BTW, the files seem to contain an extra file ending character. The standard OS/2 e.exe is known to add this but you don't want it in HTML pages. Also, you really should consider replacing the Flash navigation with a CSS-based one. With the Flash navigation you lock out many people who do not use Flash, e.g., because they are vision impaired and use special browsers. Search machines are not able to find the linked pages, too.

You need a LAN connection between the two. If you want to use Remote Desktop on the Windows machine, you need a port of rdesktop for OS/2. There is a port that uses SDL (http://glebk.newmail.ru/rdesktop/rdesktop-1.5.0-gcc-SDL-a2.zip)

Hallo Christian,
