Hi all,

i like to inform you about some progress i made with ProjectX. Ok ProjectX is not Mpeg2Schnitt but it can do the same and is much easier to port to OS/2.
After some betas and a large time of silence i found a new way of patching the java classes to support large files under OS/2. So there is a new beta, that works in my test better than all versions i made before  ;)

If you are interested, have a look at www.rbri.org.

And of course, your feedback will help to improve the port.

Hi Roland nice to here that you were able to work on the large file support.

I'm currently working (when I have the time) on a new Subsonic feature which I call extended search.
With the extended search you can search for music files available on subsonic instances that your friends have running.
The feature can be turned on and off for each of your subsonic users. If the user is not allowed to use this search he won't see the "Extended search" button at the search dialog.

So far I'm still working on the frontend which should be completed end of this week.
Then the work on the actual search service needs to be implemented together with the output of the search result of each server that's part of the search.

I posted some screenshots of it at the official Subsonic forum:

Aight, Im not presently running SMP mode because the GUI of Virtualbox has issues (supposedly?) with SMP mode, so maybe that will work afterall!

Ok, if you are not running eCS in SMP-Mode via ACPI then I don't know what is the problem.
That was my last guess as it worked here when I run it with ACPI.PSD in single processor core mode but with installed SMP-Kernel.
This is all really weird.

Aw, pwnt. Thanks though man!

I'm going crazy here...I disabled SMP (ACPI.PSD switch) and tried Innotek Java again...
Now it works with Innotek Java.

You might want to try my advice with the configuration file above which is currently canceled.
Maybe that's already enough.

I tried the image editor with Golden Code Java 1.4.1 and it works.
I did get some out of memory exceptions but that's normal (the parameter "-Xmx256M" should help).

Aight, awesome. Thanks man :) I lost my software subscription this week, so I cant get anything from mensys if I need to :C

Edit: It seems there is an issue with the Innotek Java 1.4.2 and Subsonic. The stuff I did write earlier works only until the next reboot.  :(

I'll look into the issue if I have more time...for now I have to say Subsonic only works with Golden Code Java 1.4.1!

I've done some more testing with Java 1.4.2 and I think I have a solution.

With Java 1.4.2 from Innotek I first saw the same problems as you had (blank screen after login with admin/admin). Then I started Jetty with Subsonic using GC Java 1.4.1 once and logged in. I didn't change anything and logged out again.
Then I started Jetty with Subsonic using Innotek Java 1.4.2 and I could log in successfully.
I think something went wrong when the settings should have been created.

1.) Try to find the location of the subsonic configuration...I found mine in "d:\var\subsonic" (which is a bit weired...should have been "c:\var\subsonic"...I think Jetty will create it on the same drive where it is installed).
Whatever!
If the directory structure "\var\subsonic" is not there create it (on the same drive where Jetty is)
2.) Extract the content of the following archive into "\var\subsonic"
http://www.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de/~julbts/ports/subsonic_v330_default_settings.zip
3.) Start or restart Jetty
4.) Try again to login with admin/admin

I hope it works this way...

Well, I have just written an email to Tonymillion (developer of Tuniac and Sonique), and he has just picked Tuniac back up for development not a few days ago! The sources are available from sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/tuniac/) and he is busy it seems! Could this be ported to eComStation as Tuniac/2?

Ok, looked at the sources. Tuniac 2 is written using VisualC++ from MS and it looks he's not using an Window abstraction layer like wxWidgets or Qt, so the complete GUI stuff has to be done on your own and can't be reused in larger parts.
The good thing is that Tuniac 2 will use SQLite as database backend. SQLite ports are also available to OS/2 and if you don't know already Firefox 3 is using SQLite as well for the new bookmark storage engine and some other things.
SQLite database files are platform independent so this could be interesting...

Aight, I shall give it another shot. Thanks Magog :)

Once I log in, and try to re-login it just takes me to a blank screen. I keep refreshing, but nothing.

I just installed eCS 2.0 rc4 on my main computer as I haven't tested eCS 2.0 since rc2 on this machine.
I'm now going to try subsonic with java 1.4.2 on this machine now...

Here is the first entry from the database:
[..]

I looked at the file. It would be possible to reuse the format but I don't think it's worth the trouble.
The problem is that each of those files normally uses the datastructure methods the used programming language offers. I've not checked what has been used to create Tuniac.

The best way I think would be to check the PM123 Plug-in interface. Maybe this would allow the access to the required data and functions (read mp3tags from files,...) to create a plug-in for PM123.
As PM123 is OpenSource it would be possible to add missing functions to the core of PM123.

A REXX based addon/tool is out of question.

If I follow the Subsonic link, I get to the login page saying to login with "admin" and "admin", if I do that, I get to a blank page with nothing.

Ok, I've seen this once too as I used Innotek Java 1.4.2, but after 2 retries it did work. I thought this problem showed up because I used GC Java (still my prefered Java version) before.

It seems I need to look into it again but I hope it will work if you try to login several times as it did for me.

Yes, Pixel would be great if there weren't that much bugs. It's not just the eCS Version that has a lot of problems.
Last year I tried the "new" version released for Windows and that one was also not usable at all.
Very simple operations didn't work and yes the lack of interest is indeed because Pavel promised to release something for month and then broke every date he promised to deliver.
The other famous problem with Pavel is that he seem to like new features...if only he would fix old problems first. :-|

I still hope Pavel will work on more stable versions and then release a new version for all platforms using the latest SDL for eCS.

Hi David!

Thank your for all the great themes you created so far.
This really helps to attract new users as the old icons make the complete desktop unattractive to new users.
I think I also need new program and folder icon for my Java movie database...hopefully I find a designer before I release the next version later this year.

PM123 is really the ONLY music player for OS/2 that is still supported, and is very good :)

Well there is still z! which I generally prefer but maybe some do not like the textmode interface...then PM123 is the only other option.

So, I think that PM123 should have a playlist that is like Tuniac's Media Management. I have included 2 screenshots of Tuniac in action. The first (tuniac1.png) shows the player and the full media mangement playlist, and the second (tuniac2.png) shows the player and filtering out things based upon what I typed in the entry box.

The filtering option is really a nice idea.

I can do a short test with GC Java tomorrow evening (mental note to self...add an appointment to the Treo calendar). ;)

I deleted cometd.war, and I used java.exe. Here is what it looks like for me.

Looks good. That 404 can be ignored. If you click on the "subsonic" link you should get the subsonic login screen.

I modified the description at the top so it's hopefully no longer an issue.
If everything is working you may also go back to javaw.exe but then you won't see possible errors.
