I prefer FTE as a console editor for OS/2. It's a powerful text editor for programmers.

Of course there's TECO - a mixup of a text editor and a programming language. You can write programs to do complex text transformations in a few keystrokes (that way old-fashioned text editing is possible. too). TECOC is one of the projects I want to pick up and extend someday. OS/2 binaries available here: http://almy.us/teco.html
