Programming / Re: Replacing the OS/2 kernel, the dirty way
« on: 2008.12.13, 00:34:06 »
Voyager said that they were considering many kernels as options and seeing as ReactOS has mentioned that they would like to have an OS/2 environment I (and only I) suspect that Voyager and ReactOS have had speaks.

I bookmarked the site. Thank you for the link.  8)

I believe OSFree is using the L4 kernel as its basis. They might seem to have much progress but there does seem to be some working on it. http://www.osfree.org I do not know what Voyager is based on. http://voyager.netlabs.org  There was some one who was doing a port of IBM's K42 but I have not heard any thing on that.

If one could install eCS onto the EEE PC, one could probably install it on the EEE Monitor (the Asus all-in-one desktop)?  ???

There is another section on installing eCS on an EEE PC. You should check it out.  8) I want to see if eCS 2.0 will install on my EEE PC. I am waiting for it to come to non-software subscribers like me.  ;D

I would like to think that I am upgrading to eComStation.  8) I am looking forward to upgrading to 2.0.  ;D

Off Topic discussions / Contemplating the PC after Windows

"Microsoft has been pushing hard to sell Windows 7, the next generation of its venerable operating system, as it becomes increasingly clear businesses are passing on the most recent version, Vista, and instead opting to downgrade to the older Windows XP. In addition, Microsoft has decided to extend the period in which it will make copies of Windows XP available to PC makers to meet customer demand. ... "

There are already those of us doing that when we use a non-Win system like eCS.  8)

I did what I think was a search using w.a.p.e. but did not find anything that looks like it was about it. :(

Would K42 from IBM be considered a new kernel?

General Discussion / I am a PC(?)
« on: 2008.11.05, 18:33:36 »
It would be neat to upload a video to YouTube with 'I am PC but I don't use Windows. I use eComStation. I grow weary of every one assuming I use Windows since I am a PC.'  ;D
 8) Those commercials by Apple then Microsoft never tell anyone what os the PC is using. They just assume PC means Windows. I call this stereotyping and us non-Win PC's do not like it. It is like the cave man in the Geiko commercials not liking the Geiko commercials that indicate 'so easy even a cave man can do it'.  ;D
 8) I think the Apple and MS commercials should say 'I am a WinPC' and not just 'I am a PC'.

In September 2008, a new developer had joined OSFree. Perhaps there will be more activity there? It does say they are looking for help.

At one time there was some one working on a port of K42 but that seems to have gone away. :( Even the OS/2-eCS.org site which had it is gone. :(
