I have an older Asus EEE 701a pc. I tried installing eComStation 2.0 on it using an USB cd-rom drive. It got to a point where it kept asking to insert the installation disc even though it was already in the USB cd-rom drive. The USB cd-rom drive has been around for awhile. I currently have FreeDOS on it. IIRC; it has a 32 gig SSD with about 512 meg memory. Would another USB optical drive work or is this little computer too old for 2.0?  ??? I thought it would be neat to try eCS on it.  8)

Hi BigWarpGuy

Lots more detail required eg:-

Easy or Advanced Install?
I used easy at first then advanced and changed the setting for the hard drive
QuoteWhat hardware setting did you use?
I used the compatible for Dani then the compatible for IBM
QuoteIs ACPI involved? - Does it need to be?
I am not sure but I will check.
QuoteWhat video driver did you select?
I did not change the video drive since it seems to be working.
QuoteDoes the laptop use AHCI for disk access? - can it be changed in the BIOS to Compatible?
I will check the BIOS to see if it can be changed.

QuoteSpecs of the laptop would also be useful.
I am at work and the laptop is at home. Once I get there, I will try to provide more information.

Hardware / Acer Aspire 3050 and eCS 2.0?
2011.03.28, 18:06:51
I have a 3 year old Acer Aspire 3050 laptop computer. I tried installing eCS 2.0 onto it. It seemed to work to a point. I entered the key and it formatted the drive as JFS. It rebooted but stopped at loading os2dasd on the screen (I am not sure of the exact wording). It beeped once every so often. It stopped trying to load it and gave an error message of not finding the hard drive. I tried again and it no longer sees the hard drive. I tried different settings but it still does not see the hard drive. Is it the driver or the drive that is having problems?  ???

It is not often that I post to the forum at OS/2 World. I have eComStation 2.0 but have not installed it on any computers (yet?). I have parts (years old) for a mini-itx computer but have not assembled anything yet. It is very rare (if not none at all) that I encounter any one around here that even know what OS/2 or eCS is. Once I get eCS 2.0 running on at least one computer of mine, I will return to OS/2 World.

With inflation today, one's '2 cents worth' probabl cost '5 cents' now.  ;D

If I had the funds, I would buy some computers to see if one can install OS/2 or eCS onto them but I don't. I just wanted opinions if it was possible.

I have been watching ReactOS. It seems like a promising operating system.

Since it comes with a blue ray/dvd combo drive and no operating system, should installing eCS be - relatively - easy?  ??? For a netop without an OS, it seems on the high side for $530 (USD).  :o

It is a very small computer that boots up from an SD card. Perhaps one could install eCS via an USB cd drive and install it to the SD Card?  ??? or one could install it to the SD card and install the SD card to boot from it?  ???

Thank you for the link.

"We hope that anyone who wants a very capable yet portable PC will find the Xtreamer Ultra to be a rewarding experience and a worthy investment both as FULL HD streamer as well as a Windows 7 or Linux based computing system" If it can run Win 7 or Ubuntu, why not eCS(?).  8)

Here is a nettop without an operating system. Would it be possible to install OS/2-eCS onto it?   ??? I like the idea that it comes without an operating system. It is nice not having to pay for an OS that one is not going to use.  8)

Since it uses Java, could it work with eCS?  ??? http://www.hamsphere.com/
"The software works in Windows, Linux and Mac or any other Java driven system."

If you w. .. .

I am hoping it will be closer to where I live. Being a single eCS user in my area, it would be too much for a single person to organize.  :(

How would one install eCS on a tablet pc? I can see using an USB optical drive. Would an USB keyboard/mouse work with it? Could one install eCS from a flash drive?

Since it is embedded, would it make it difficult or impossible to use eCS with it?  ???

It is a really small computer.   8)

I did that but can not find the key to use it to install with. Could Mensys send another one?  ???
