simply click right mouse button somewhere on page to open menu - and select "view page source"

Not that really exciting at all, if they are about to create another super, hyper, this-time-snap-technology-powered- VESA generic driver - it will still suck in comparision to old accelerated snap modes.
What makes me excited is gl/2 project and 3d acceleration. Will it ever materialize?.
But of course it will make happy all those who need to have any video mode on modern hardware.
But maybe I'm wrong, and mensys is going to add 2d accelerated modes for some new chips?

Hi guys!

Snap is dead, panorama is crapp. What else did gradd gave us? (please, please don't mention here any ancient drivers for ancient video cards like matrox - it's 2011 - and I won't collect garbage to assemble my next pc.... but rather will go to shop to buy some 3d accelerator instead (there are nice 3d games out there, fullHD videos and support for gpu acceleration in major browsers as you might know already...)
So give me one reason to vote for gradd.
The solution proposed by Demetrious - 3d accelerated driver for os/2 - may give us some cool possibilities -  3d api, compositing manager, alpha compostiting (you know - even smartphones have it now) - so new look and performance to os/2.
So, again - give me one reason to bother with gradd? Nostalgia? Dos sessions? Win-OS/2 sessions? (rotfl)

i really wonder about your posts more and more. are those really worth the typing you do?
if you want to contribute, they buy such a device try to install and report back.

just my 2 cents

Actually I find posts by BigWarpGuy quite interesting. Interesting enough to open links he's attaching. AND his questions are quite substancial - If eCS can be installed on such devices. So It's up to us if we want to respond - basing on our hardware knowledge - whether it can be installed or not. No less, no more.

So BigWarpGuy - keep sending your posts - there is at least ONE FOOL to READ THEM ;) (well, ME ;) )

Hi!

As for add-ons It all depends on which one we are talking about.
At the moment I'm using some with ff 4.0b8pre. Namely : Download Statusbar 0.9.7.2, NoScript 2.0.3.3, Forecastfox Weather 2.0.2,
Tree Style Tab 0.10.2010091901. They work as expected. However it might require some altering in xpi - install.rdf - just to change em:maxVersion="4.0b8pre" - so instead of just installing it - download it - change maxVersion to what you need and - in most cases it does the trick. If it doesn't - look for update - it won't take long before all important addons will ff4 compatible.

One of the biggest problems with my system it's that Firefox won't start,,, ever.

I have done all the checks to make sure the libpath it's correct, that I only have one Firefox level. I erased all copies of libcxxx.dll, leaving only v. 063, only in <drive>:\ecs\dll

Still nothing. I replaced the old firefox for the latest one,,, and I use Firefox!.exe and Firefox.exe. It leaves nothing in the POPUP log.

I'm so tired of trying and I'm open to alternatives. Maybe a fresh start, from scratch,,,testing each step

Thanks in advance.

PS. This is not the only strange problem I have with the system

Could you be more specific please? Which version of Firefox. Plus some details about system - os, graphics, ifs used... etc.

From my experience on many builds of mozzilla apps - I had some builds which never run - no matter what I did - recently some seamonkey build. But those "never running" were really rare. Most of the problems with those wich I was finally able to run - was with old profiles or some leftovers from previous builds.
So installing from scratch is never bad idea.
I Hope your case won't need OS reinstall - it's always a lot of work.
One more thing - I'd suggest to use newest version available - today it's 3.7a6 (soon to turn into 4.0...) - it's quite snappier than 3.6 series, less glitches, and smaller memory footprint (just my impression)
Once again - more details on firefox version and box config needed.

cheers

Hi!

Let's start from mplayer options: (newest build of mplayer - as I do like keep it up to date...)

vo=kva:snap

It is supposed to be in x:\HOME\DEFAULT\.MPLAYER\config - and for me it does the trick - mplayer is working via snapoverlay.

For KMP - kmp.cfg should contain -video snap or -video wo. Or one can specify driver in command line options : kmp.exe -video snap

Both players need snapwrap.dll to be present in executable directory or somewhere in libpath.

Of course you can use both - snap and warp overlays - but only one at the time. So If you mplayer uses snap you can't run kmp with warp overlay at the same time.
I have not used warpvision for ages but it used snapoverlay also.

As for ati x850 card - snap readme.txt - it is definitely among supported graphics chips for overlays. Unfortunately I don't have such card to test it for you.

(here is my config for mplayer:
ao=kai:dart
vo=kva:snap
pp=6
#double=yes
font=arial.ttf
subfont-text-scale=4
subcp=cp1250
#vf=screenshot=pp=de,hqdn3d=lavcdeint=denoise3d:4:3:6
#aspect=4:3
#aspect=21:10
#aspect=16:9
#aspect=16:10
#aspect=2.35:1
subfont-encoding=unicode
sub-no-text-pp=1
#noidx=1
# Settings for stream/file caching
#cache=8192
cache-min=30
#vf=expand=0:-80:0:0
# Setting for Browser User Agent response
user-agent=NSPlayer/4.1.0.3856
colorkey=0x000001
).

[/quote]

First thing - why use warpoverlay while there is snapoverlay? The only few apps using warpoverlay were (iirc) warpvision (dead now), desktop painter, mplayer and kmp... - except desktop painter - all can work with snapoverlay.
Second thing - I'm using ati 9600 pro (agp) with snapoverlay without any issues. So if there is bug with snapoverlay and ATI cards - then it must be really minor bug ;) So really don't know if ATI x850 (agp) series will worse choice than ATI 9800 series.
Third thing - panorama driver is shitty. If you don't have to - don't use it.

Thanks for that Diver :) Do you happen to know what else we would need for a native Chrome Port?

Hi Saijin!! I'm afraid we can't expect google to port chrome to os/2 in near future ;) But still we can count on chromium - wich is foss variant of chrome ;)

(....from http://webmproject.blogspot.com/

WebM includes:
    * VP8, a high-quality video codec we are releasing today under a BSD-style, royalty-free license
    * Vorbis, an already open source and broadly implemented audio codec
    * a container format based on a subset of the Matroska media container
...)

WebM has nothing to do with webkit.

Anyway, good to hear someone is implementing webm into os/2 mozilla ports.

Hi Silvan!
Great port - thank you!!!
At least torrent client for os/2 with encryption option - a must have for some mean ISPs. So I don't need utorrent, under winxp in virtualbox, anymore....
However there is small glitch in window title - it says QBittorent instead of QBittorrent - so one "r" is missing. Nothing bad though.
As about "zombie process"... isn't it about minimizing to tray instead of closing/exiting qt program? (in bittorrent setup there is 'minimizing to tray' and 'close to tray options').

Hi Pete!

As for pmmplayer - it's ordinary mplayer with exe header changed so it does not produce debug window.
Here is receipt for:

(...)
  First of all, you need MARKEXE.EXE of ToolKit 4.5. If you have it, do the
following.

    copy mplayer.exe pmmplayer.exe
    markexe windowapi pmmplayer.exe

  Or, you can use 'emxbind.exe' instead of 'markexe.exe' as the following.

    emxbind -e -p pmmplayer.exe
(...)

Quite useful when mplayer is default system video player - to keep it silent with no extra debug window.

Other files and dirs in mplayer dir are meaningless here. Your install is the same as mine.
Given the fact you have very right hardware for mplayer with snapoverlay - I've found it very perplexing ;) - why no success?
As for warpoverlay - I've no idea if it does serve X800. Last time I've used it - support was somewhat limited in comparison to  snapoverlay. Anyway, bad to hear you are still out of luck. And I give up....

Supported Graphics Chips for Overlays

Raiko, were you able to get this to work in DVI mode with an LCD monitor?

Hi!

Just to save your time - here is a piece from snap readme
(...)

Supported Flat Panel Graphics Chips
-----------------------------------

The following is a list of graphics chipsets that are working with digital
flat panels.  Other chipsets will work with flat panels in analog mode.
Please note that if you can't see anything on the display when you boot your
machine, SciTech SNAP Graphics can't fix this, as it is a hardware problem.
Unless otherwise noted, the flat panel interface used is DVI.  Also note
that digital flat panel monitors do not support refresh rate control,
although they may emulate it when running in analog mode.  Currently, modes
available on digital flat panels are limited to those provided by the video
BIOS, which in most cases does not go higher than 1280x1024.  The only
exception to this is the ATI Radeon chipsets, which now feature native
panel programming.

So it looks nvidia's are not working with snap via digital output. Sorry. That's why I stick to radeons.
As for adding mode:

gamode.exe is in use here

gamode 2048 1152 32    ;   added mode for my 23'' samsung with nonstandard resolution 2048 x 1152 - and yes it's working via dvi from the installation phase.

With nonstandard (for video bios) resolution you may experience problems with older nvidias cards also on windoze while using dvi - simply it might turn out you won't be able to set native resolutions - especially higher ones. Radeons were known to allow native panel resolution programing, thus better choice for dvi and snap.
