Sure, no problem. Read on here http://www.blender.org/blenderorg/blender-foundation/history/ for the history of Blender. In short, the source code and the IP therein was bought by the Blender Foundation for 100,000 Euros and open sourced afterwards.

Blender http://www.blender.org/ would be one of my favourites from the list. I sponsored the program when it was bought from NeoGeo by the community to be released as OSS. AFAIK Blender has its own GUI widget set, so this would probably be the one major obstacle when porting it to OS/2 and eCS. However, we do not have a similar application yet, so this could also attract some more people to give eCS a try.

BTW Crystal Space http://www.crystalspace3d.org/ can handle models from Blender. A capable programmer with lots of spare time could port both Blender and Crystal Space, then create a nice game... ;D
