It doesn't have to be any more than it is, it works pretty well for most of the apps I've run on my netbook. Not nearly 100%, but it does allow me to at least open Steam and play some simple games and work with some productivity software I need/use.

OS/2 apps + Linux Hardware Support + Linux Apps + WINE = What isn't to like?

93
While that is a nice work around, it is hardly a solution.
Flash 10 & Java need to be addressed.

It better install EASILY over USB from USB CD/USB Flash Drive/USB Media (SD/MMC/CompactFlash).
Better yet, I want a USB bootable image ala Haiku/Linux.

Been testing it and MrMessage for a while.

He has gotten it working pretty well right now and has some big plans for a novel interface concept that you guys may like.

What version of the danis driver are you using for ACHI support?

WD-5000AADS
[]CrystalDiskMark 3.0 x64 (5 passes, 50mb, NTFS drive)
Sequential: 120.3MBps READ | 101.4MBps WRITE
512k: 32.26MBps READ | 79.39MBps WRITE
4k: 0.795MBps READ | 0.950MBps WRITE
4k QD32: 1.396MBps READ | 0.915MBps WRITE

I have AHCI Advanced mode turned on in BIOS, NCQ support enabled, Intel Matrix Storage Driver for UDMA support. Also, the 5000AADS is a single platter 500gb drive with 32mb cache, it performs MUCH better than the multi-platter Green drives and the older Green drives with 16mb cache.

Also, the benchmark from version 2.2 was when the drive was relatively empty of data. Now it has much more data, which I believe has lead to the minor degradation in disk performance. However, this drive has performed above and beyond my expectations and I couldn't be happier.

Kim, I'm VERY happy with my Patriot PS-100 drive. It is now about 90$ US for 32gb. I use it for boot drive and keep my data on a Western Digital Green 500gb drive. Here are the numbers:

PS-100
[]CrystalDiskMark 2.2 (5 passes, 50mb, NTFS drive)
Sequential: 227.4MBps READ | 123.5MBps WRITE
512k: 201.1MBps READ | 59.17MBps WRITE
4k: 10.66MBps READ | 24.02MBps WRITE

WD-5000AADS
[]CrystalDiskMark 2.2 (5 passes, 50mb, NTFS drive)
Sequential: 143.0MBps READ | 103.8MBps WRITE
512k: 32.55MBps READ | 110.0MBps WRITE
4k: 1.040MBps READ | 1.277MBps WRITE

^ Exactly. I want to test it out on my netbook but the only CD I still have is 2.0RC7 which has a bug in the last stage of the installer on this machine and my new desktop.

I'll tell you what would make OS/2 useful for me a student:
Proper networking support (Samba is mostly there)
Printing support (Paul is working on HPLIP)
Scanning support (USB back-end didn't work for SANE at time of last test)
IM Client for communication (Marty is working on this)
Office Suite for free/cheap (eh, not really)
Support for OpenGL hardware acceleration (Nope)
Ability to run Win32 apps [most sci software] (Not really)

I like eCS and I'm going to continue to keep trying to use it (especially on my netbook), but it has many shortcomings as you guys have noted. It has made progress this past year though.

From what I gather, beacuse Pasha was working with ACPI he found that some of the crashes in VPC, Odin, and Uniaud are due to a bug in the OS/2 Kernel. The applications that can control process affinity are affected. The more cores you have, the less chance you have of a hang?

Basically, with his new kernel expect less crashes with Odin, ACPI, Uniaud, VPC, etc on SMP eComStation installs.

Okay... so what does this mean?

It is something you are fixing in your custom patched kernel?

Does this mean that Os/2 will become more stable now?

That may be helpful.

Do you know if they still are considering using SDDhelp.sys in conjunction with Panorama? I read somewhere that this would actually help the performance of Panorama significantly.

Also, do you know if this will add support for Nvidia and VIA display adapters and widescreen?

If you can Thomas, any more information will be greatly appreciated and valuable.
