I have always had drive letters displayed in boot manager and if it points to D:
for an OS that is installed on C: it will not boot. (I have a D: partition that holds
some programs, but no OS.)
Perhaps you are using a different BM? I'm using the one that came with eCSRC5.

Yes I have assigned C: using LVM, but still it shows D: on BM.
I have replaced disks and installed various OS on this system
before and it has worked just fine. The only tools I ever use are
LVM and DFSee.

Setup & Installation / Boot manager problem
« on: 2009.06.28, 14:44:18 »
After disconnecting and reconnecting a disk, the XP installation which
is on C, now shows up in boot manager as D.
I have not done anything to the partitions and LVM shows correct letters
for all the partitions.
Quite some time ago I had exactly the same problem, but I cannot
remember what the solution was.
Ideas anyone?

Hardware / G. Skill Falcon 128GB SATA II SSD
« on: 2009.06.26, 19:31:59 »
Just bought the G. Skill 128 GB and replaced one of my 2 sata disk with it.
Have installed eCS2.0RC6a without any problems at all, chose adv. installation
on a JFS partition and Panorama.(No dos/win).
System: Intel quad core, 2G RAM, nVidia 9600
Phase 1: 04.44 min, Phase 2: 05.19 min.
Booting from boot manager to WPS now only takes 1 min. 40 sec.
Since I have not installed any other software yet, I have only tried Firefox and
it starts surprisingly fast.
So far it's a very nice experience.

CDRWSel.......is this the one you've got:

G.SKILL FALCON 128GB SSD 2.5" SATA-II, Indilink controller, Hi-S MLC (FM-25S2S-128GBF1)

Found the one above available at a web shop, but they also sell one this one:

G.SKILL 128GB SSD 2.5" SATA-II, MLC (FM-25S2S-128GB)

The first one mentions Indilink controller and the 2nd says nothing about controller.
I am somewhat confused about this stuff so any help is welcome.

The store has some Mtron SSD's but a 128GB actually costs a lot
more than the Intel 160GB.

I noticed your posts about the G. Skill Falcon MLC SSD but my usual reseller doesnt
sell that brand. They have the Intel and some other brands I've never heard about.
In theory the G. Skill SSD seems to be faster, but wonder if I would notice any
difference at all between the two in daily use.
Intel costs a lot more so perhaps I should investigate some more about the
availability of the G. Skill SSD.

Applications / Re: DBExpert / sorting a table
« on: 2009.01.03, 23:43:52 »
Open the table in design view and then click on the "Keys" tab.
There you can specify the sorting. The Norwegian alphabet has 3 more letters than
the English and DBExpert handles them correctly.
(If your table has lots of data I suggest that you create a copy of the table and use
that one for testing. I lost a few records when I did some changes to the keys for a
table with lots of data.)

The way the report builder works it would be easier to change the mapping of an "unused"
key to the logo in the font being used for the whole report. XAL has some rules for using
different fonts in a report, like you cannot specify a font on field level or two different fonts
on the same line of text. The manual states it has to be specified per "blocks".
Also, when using a new font it takes some additional steps in setting up the printer inside XAL.

As you say, it is basically the same as typing ABC using Wingdings, but "setting" it up in XAL
is way more complicated than a word processor. Would be nice if you had access to XAL, probably
you would even find the way to use the bmp logo in the report without editing or creating a
new font.

Perhaps I could send you a copy of the "procedure" XAL uses for printing the report ?
(It is a simple text file.)

Thanks for all the help so far.

Hi,

hmm... what do you exactly mean by "OS/2 format"?
The TTF files are more or less platform independant... should work "as usual" by using e.g. the fonts palette application to add the TTFs to the fonts list.

And then once available, you must certainly "somehow" edit a template in XAL to tell it to include a specific font and then print the required character (no idea how *that* works though).

Cheers
Thomas

Sorry I misunderstood and got the idea that the resulting TTF was platform dependent.

XAL has it's own report editor so that's no problem, but to get it to appear on the template/report
I guess I have to bind the specific TTF to a key on the keyboard.

Please have a look at:
http://users.breathe.com/l-emmett/sslogo.html

I think it will give you a better idea about what I'm trying to achieve.

well,well... Concorde XAL. That must be seven years or more ago now that I last heard of it. ;)

It later became Navision, then Dynamics and now owned by Microsoft......

I know someone who has programs to convert the graphic to TTF, so then the problem is to
get the resulting TTF in "OS/2 format" and how to proceed to make it available to XAL.

Needless to say, but ideas are still welcome..........:-)
