One more problem: Clicking on page 8 on the thread:

http://www.os2world.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,63/topic,3092.120/

produces:

Quote
8: Undefined offset: 0
File: /home/os2worldcom/httpd/html/components/com_smf/smf.class.php
Line: 449

Got it; but that seems to be a pure wrapper problem in combination with Joomla plugin and smf; so don't want to touch that error since it will most likely break something else if I fiddle around too much with smf... This one we have to live with until the move to latest joomla or another cms system. Also as mentioned earlier if there are issues with some threads; give it a try accessing the forum without the joomla wrapping; www.os2world.com/forum

First error message that you received has been fixed; checked with a new browser session and I got the same error. So this one should be fixed now.

The 2nd one only seems to apply when login and logout directly via Joomla; directly login via SMF doesn't generates this error. As a starter I upgraded the SMF to the latest version, which didn't make any difference for this error and is purely related to Joomla once again... Bah. So need to google around a bit more to find a solution for this one. As the path for the erroneous script points .../forum/... it's Small Machine Forum who is the generator of the error message. But, due to that we make use of integration modules between joomla and smf.

The 3rd error message I got one time last night and so did Martin; so first believed it was a caching error or one time session error. But, seems not.

Starting to wonder if we should go back to php 5.2.x instead as this seems to be continuous never ending story of correcting errors.

There is . .. .

This little annoying issue should be solved now, but please report if you find and other areas of the site which generates similar issues.

How to fix 'Function eregi() is deprecated' in PHP 5.3.0?
The issues that we had is related to used php function is deprecated and in our case it's both eregi() and split(); the quick fix for this is to replace eregi() with mb_eregi() and split() with explode(); at least it worked for the issues that we had.

Well, the MLC OS statement can be ignored and isn't an issue any more. I'm myself running with a Intel X25-M 80 G2 on a ThinkPad T60 and I would never ever go back to a mechanical drive again. Furthermore on this old system I also manage to get hold of a cheap Intel T7200 x64 CPU to replace the original Intel T2400 x86 CPU so running 64-bit OS is now possible.

Sadly I haven't had the time to test eCS on this config yet, but hopefully I'll get some time to do so. While this might not be the forum to talk about Windows; but it takes my system around 15 seconds (to desktop) to boot into a full Win 7 Ultimate installation with various ThinkPad utilities.

Why not make use of the ready gui apps instead from HansDampf2 if concur to this?

The Capta. .. .

Well, guess that we should make a review on several different system to see how well the GA works out. Going to check with Martin if we've been offered copy to review.

Hardware / Re: Solid State Drives (SSD)

Ok, tested the WD 320GB drive as well with CrystalDiskMark 3.0 as well; here is the results:

WD Scorpio Black 320 GB
[]CrystalDiskMark 2.2 (5 passes, 1000MB, NTFS drive)
Sequential: 62.03MBps READ | 60.10MBps WRITE
512k: 27.79MBps READ | 44.25MBps WRITE
4k: 0.627MBps READ | 1.356MBps WRITE
4k QD32: 1.235MBps READ | 1.406MBps WRITE

WD Scorpio Black 320 GB
[]CrystalDiskMark 2.2 (5 passes, 50mb, NTFS drive)
Sequential: 82.28MBps READ | 78.19MBps WRITE
512k: 41.86MBps READ | 63.88MBps WRITE
4k: 0.793MBps READ | 1.638MBps WRITE
4k QD32: 1.136MBps READ | 1.818MBps WRITE

Hmmm you got way better numbers on the WD-5000AADS drive compared to WD Scorpia Black that I use. Guess that it could be the different version; but then again that huge different is kind of odd. Actually the numbers seem too good; would you mind re-run the test with version 3.0 of CrystalDiskMark?

BWG: Would you mind to benchmark the system using XP using HD Tune including adding a few lines of the hardware specs? For example here is my benchmark value for my T60 using XP SP3:

System: ThinkPad T60
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz
Memory: 4GB (3GB available)
OS: Win XP SP3
Drive: WD Scorpio Black 320 GB, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM [more]
HD Tune - Read (min): 79.1 MB/s
HD Tune - Read (max): 86.7 MB/s
HD Tune - Read (ave): -
HD Tune - Access time: -
HD Tune - Burst rate: -

Unfortunate I get error on the last 3 values and don't know why; but would be great to get some numbers.

Hardware / Solid State Drives (SSD)

Question regarding solid state drives; when checking Swedish site Prisjakt.nu (PriceHunter) for the most popular drives the list of the top 10 drives are:

  • Intel X25-M G2 80GB
  • Intel X25-V G2 40GB
  • Intel X25-M G2 160GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV125-S2 64GB
  • OCZ Vertex Limited Edition SATA II 2.5" SSD 100GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V+ Series SNVP325-S2 128GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2 64GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V+ Series SNVP325-S2 64GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2 128GB
  • Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV125-S2 128GB

Guess that Intel shows great numbers for read access but the write access isn't that great compare to both Kingston and OZC, Corsair drives. But, what also makes the different if the drive has cache or not; drives without cache will often show terrible values during software installation.

So the question is quite simple; what is your experience regarding solid state drives in general and together with OS/2? I assume that a well optimized OS/2 would be able to boot quite fast using solid state drives...

If your system supports boot from CF och SD cards then it shouldn't be any problem; but remember that you it's FAT FS only then...

Well, can't say that the rules that we applied to the bounty system has been followed sloppily. But, do agree that we need to update the rules and as earlier open for suggestions on what we should change. And as well we should form a group of people around the bounty system; what we've done until now is that we've posted in the forum on how to handle payments for a specific bounty. If there has been a clear majority in favour to pay out a bounty this has then been done.

Assume that you accessed the wiki this evening; so give it a try again; I was trying to add an extension that didn't work out as supposed.
#13
Instead of re-installing Boot Manager; install Air-Boot instead; does the same work, less hassle and more features.

If you seriously wants to get people involved; English should be the primary language and not German for this kind conversation....

Instead of wasting one partition to OS2 Boot Manager make use of Air-Boot which installs to MBR and works fine with OS2, Win, Linux, etc.
