Quick questions; but have any one here used BabelZilla to get help with translation for localization? The service provided seems great and would be great if this can be used within current development projects for OS2 and eComStation.

While I tend to keep my e-mails I've also realized that the attachments in the e-mails that I have eats a few bytes. So I'm wondering if anyone are aware of a plug-in or utility that could mass remove and safe the attachments? Having saved the attachments it would be faster to check through the files and delete was should be deleted and safe what is needed to be saved.

QuoteSo far I've gotten one or the other to run on the half-dozen machines I've tried, but there was always something which made the results unusable. The fixing was typically quite involved, and it always came down to cheaper hardware being poorly supported.

Guess that most of us have had mixed results when trying out the latest RC4 on the hardware that we got. Question is if Serenity/MenSys manage to fix everything and if they plan to release another RC to give another test round - even for a shorter period. Clearly when for example testing the RC4 release on AMD based system I've found that it didn't work out that well and I also would like to see a major update of the Adaptec drivers as well. Regarding Adaptec drivers the new cards are identified by the card checker utility that's included with the latest IBM drivers; but it seems that the card id isn't recognized by the drivers itself. Suggestions has been made that this could easily be fixed.

OrochimaruVoldemo. .. .

Guess that this information will be handy for some; but it seems that they're releasing following info:

  • Protocols between Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Microsoft Office client applications;
  • Protocols between Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and other Microsoft server products;
  • Protocols between Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Outlook;
  • Protocols between 2007 Microsoft Office system client applications and other Microsoft server products.

If it's of any help or just load of documents, well that needs to be checked; but more information can be found at Microsoft home page.

Mail-News / Zarafa Outlook sharing on OS2?
2008.04.08, 10:20:22
Quick question if anyone have tried out the product Zarafa that is a Outlook clone for Linux environment? When checking the requirements it primary mention what Linux flavours but there is a list of components that Zarafa is based on:

  • gSOAP: (SOAP) Communication between client and server. This solution makes it possible for people to work at home with Outlook, just as if they were actually present in their office. This is achieved by connections over HTTP or HTTPS. This Open Source project is headed by the University of Florida.
  • MAPI: Open Standard that makes communication and storage of Outlook information possible.
  • PHP: The language in which the Webaccess is being developed. In this language the code of the Webaccess is visible and accessible for modifications.
  • MySQL: Open Database. One of the many advantages with this system is that the mail and calendar appointments are transparently readable by technical personnel. (There will be support for other Databases in the near future.)
  • Apache: The most widely used webserver. World wide, this server program is used four times as much as IIS from Microsoft. Apache has distinguished itself by being secure and stable.

Of above components mentioned I not sure if SOAP and MAPI is available for OS2 (I guess that they using a few more components); but if it would be possible to have mentioned components under OS2 then Zarafa could be a nice product to have for the OS2 environment.

The downside is that it's license based software; but there are trial version for download that can be used for examination.

Ouch don't think that the record industry wanted this kind of publicity when it comes to piracy.

Rexx / Rexx Today
2008.03.30, 21:02:48
Just wanted to post a link to the article Rexx Today that was written by Howard Fosdick; guess that this might be of help for those who are looking into using Rexx on several OS.

On request we have now added this board to support the discussions regarding Rexx programming and the possibility of sharing knowledge with other users. We would like to have a moderator for this board as well.

I guess that I'm not the only one that runs several OS both at work and home and yes, this is an OS2 based site... but I'm kind of curious regarding this topic.

When buying new systems today for Lenovo one is forced to accept an installation of Vista - at least one could earlier order ThinkPads with XP instead of Vista - even if the price was around 165 USD higher (at least here in Sweden).

And I guess that I'm not the only one that really dislikes Vista; since I've helped couple of family members to downgrade their Vista systems to XP. And it seems that Lenovo now also have had way too many complaints about Vista since the now include XP as a downgrade  option on ThinkPads in some countries. What also crosses my mind if Microsoft actually have listen and talked to their customers, both consumers and corporate customers - since I doubt that actually everybody would give two thumps up for Vista.

About the bounty system; one suggestion that has been made on how we can improve the bounty system is that we actually asks the developers to set a fixed price that can be guaranteed if the task is fulfilled. This would actually be a way of prioritizing among the several tasks available and as well, it might be more clear for both private and corporate users where to put their money.

Above is a suggestion that has been made and I'm sure that there are several other ways that we can improve the bounty system; but we need you to post the thoughts and ideas - now is the time and not tomorrow! :-)

Many OS/2 developers are still frozen. Some of them are waiting for prepayment, other developers don't know what are the goals. Please indicate them new targets! .. .

Eugene I'm kind of curious here; but you mention among other that developers are waiting for prepayments - from whom and what is the issue here? How can we help? Having developers waiting for their goals sounds to good to be true; I'm sure that there must be a clear roadmap already drawn or at least a huge To-Do list available? What's the story here?

Enlighten me please!

We have earlier had request and discussion about adding some kind of Support, Ticket & Bug report system to OS2 World based on that application developers sometimes don't have the proper time to set up system them self and as well hopefully take of some of the loads regarding issues that might already been reported to the author of an application.

Lately above thoughts has been requested again and I'm kind of curious if this is something that we should add  to the site? What is the general interest of 1) using this kind of system from end-user perspective and as well; are there a general interest from developers & authors to use a hosted system for bug and problem reporting?

EmperoarTV. .. .

What would be the preferred version of the Hauppauge PVR card to get; I know that earlier that the PVR-150 card the one to pick due to quality of the output from the chip used. But, what is last said here? Also, would the choice of card be the same if a dual card system is to be put together?

Linux.com . .. .

Well, interesting project that we should keep an eye on, might give us some ideas on our own on-going open source activities.

Well, here is an odd behaviour when installing trying to install eCS v2.0 RC4 on a test system that usually installs without any issues; only change that I made was that I changed the DVD-Rom (Pioneer A06) to a CD-Rom (LiteOn LTN-526). During boot of the system it halts on the ACPI-drivers and just stays there; totally dead no response. The LiteOn CD-Rom goes couple of years back and never made any updates or so; but found that there is a firmware update available from January 20th, 2005 07:13 that might make some kind of difference; I haven't tried but I will. I've attached the firmware for the LiteOn LTN-526 to this posting as well.

Posting this due to that I've had similar experience with the ThinkPad T60, not saying it's the same; but in both cases with the above mentioned system and the T60 I'm able to boot the installations CD and then from that I don't get any further... With the T60 I solved it to boot from USB based CD-Rom unit instead and from there everything works fine.

So if you have similar findings as above; try to either replace the CD/DVD-Rom to another unit and/or boot the CD from USB.

Well, don't know if following statement actually is that great of sales pitch "eComStation license is expensive, upgrades are cheap"... also I would like to get a quote on the upgrade price from eCS v1.2 to 2.0 as well.

Micr. .. .

Okey, so M$ finally got enough pressure to open up their archive for binary formats and as well for API according to The Register:

"Specifically, Microsoft revealed that it will publish the APIs for Windows Vista, Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, Office 2007, Exchange Server 2007 and Office SharePoint Server 2007 on its website. "Developers do not need to take a license or pay a royalty or other fee to access this information," the company said. "Open access to this documentation will ensure that third-party developers can connect to Microsoft's high-volume products just as Microsoft's other products do."

In addition, Microsoft will release some 30,000 pages of documentation surrounding Windows client and server protocols. In the past, partners and customers needed to acquire a trade secret license to this information through the Microsoft Work Group Server Protocol Program (WSPP) and the Microsoft Communication Protocol Program (MCPP). Similar protocol reveals will occur for Office 2007 and other "high-volume products" in the coming months."

This is kind of going to be interesting to see what they actually will release and how this can be of benefit for various open source projects.
