Well, it should be fixed now; but need to wait a few hours to see if the changes made it.

Well, it seems that the plug-in used to import RSS feed strips of a bit too much information, such as the source link. I know we have had this little problem earlier and then the issue was how the RSS-feed was generated on the source site. But, I'll look into to it and fix it; since your example here is kind of really useless; even as RSS teaser...

Mail-News / Zarafa Outlook sharing on OS2?
« on: 2008.04.08, 09:20:22 »
Quick question if anyone have tried out the product Zarafa that is a Outlook clone for Linux environment? When checking the requirements it primary mention what Linux flavours but there is a list of components that Zarafa is based on:

  • gSOAP: (SOAP) Communication between client and server. This solution makes it possible for people to work at home with Outlook, just as if they were actually present in their office. This is achieved by connections over HTTP or HTTPS. This Open Source project is headed by the University of Florida.
  • MAPI: Open Standard that makes communication and storage of Outlook information possible.
  • PHP: The language in which the Webaccess is being developed. In this language the code of the Webaccess is visible and accessible for modifications.
  • MySQL: Open Database. One of the many advantages with this system is that the mail and calendar appointments are transparently readable by technical personnel. (There will be support for other Databases in the near future.)
  • Apache: The most widely used webserver. World wide, this server program is used four times as much as IIS from Microsoft. Apache has distinguished itself by being secure and stable.

Of above components mentioned I not sure if SOAP and MAPI is available for OS2 (I guess that they using a few more components); but if it would be possible to have mentioned components under OS2 then Zarafa could be a nice product to have for the OS2 environment.

The downside is that it's license based software; but there are trial version for download that can be used for examination.

Communication / Re: Chat client that supports MSN

Well, I usually most of the time use ICQ but now all suddenly I have a bunch of French people that only uses MSN chat so I needed a client that supports or can bridge to that net.

Well, there are several script available; on one site I'm using perl scripts from Geck Tribe the both gather data and create RSS-feeds. Works rock solid and great. They've made the scripts available in both free and licenses version. But, the free version should do the trick for you.

If you check www.haverblad.se you can see that I have under the Blog page collected and re-created and as well altered the original RSS-data to my needs (removing author and adding image based link) and as well added the possibility of subscribing on RSS-data from a non RSS-based site :-) Best of all you don't need to run any cron jobs; the scripts checks the cached data and when it's old enough it re-generates the data and content on the pages.

Communication / Chat client that supports MSN

As intriguing as this sound the question is if we really can find an incentive for venture capitalist by being able to present a valid business case that we can work around. And the biggest issue we have that IBM won't support us - why should VC then do? I know that this really came kind of not that positive; but we need business case to get this kind of stunt to work.

An anonymo. .. .

Ouch don't think that the record industry wanted this kind of publicity when it comes to piracy.

Rexx / Re: Parse XML
« on: 2008.03.30, 22:19:09 »
Well, you could either seamless integrate into the wps or if you'd like as a separate application with full GUI. There are several ways of doing it; so from end-users perspective you can "hide" it and just focus on getting it done.

Also, to what extent have historical considerations been given to the fact that "REXX became part of the base operating system. It (having ) previously been included in the IBM OS/2 Extended Edition 1.2 only.

In regards with what historical considerations do you mean? If you're thinking about the possibilities of still being able using Rexx; then Rexx can be used for quite the most OS. Guess that this little image clearly shows that:

Just wanted to post a link to the article Rexx Today that was written by Howard Fosdick; guess that this might be of help for those who are looking into using Rexx on several OS.

On request we have now added this board to support the discussions regarding Rexx programming and the possibility of sharing knowledge with other users. We would like to have a moderator for this board as well.

General Discussion / Downgrade from Vista to XP?
« on: 2008.03.30, 16:34:35 »
I guess that I'm not the only one that runs several OS both at work and home and yes, this is an OS2 based site... but I'm kind of curious regarding this topic.

When buying new systems today for Lenovo one is forced to accept an installation of Vista - at least one could earlier order ThinkPads with XP instead of Vista - even if the price was around 165 USD higher (at least here in Sweden).

And I guess that I'm not the only one that really dislikes Vista; since I've helped couple of family members to downgrade their Vista systems to XP. And it seems that Lenovo now also have had way too many complaints about Vista since the now include XP as a downgrade  option on ThinkPads in some countries. What also crosses my mind if Microsoft actually have listen and talked to their customers, both consumers and corporate customers - since I doubt that actually everybody would give two thumps up for Vista.

General Discussion / Re: Improvement of the Bounty System

Well, about OS2 WF - we're are still in the starting process to get everything started up when it comes banking, etc. When it comes to financial and economic tasks we're obligated to follow the laws that apply to us - so in short - yes.

While speaking of different processes it, might in current phase sound a bit overkill to talk about implementation of enterprise-, risk-, information-, data-, technical management. But, yes, there are aspects as well there that we need to think about and already doing.
