Open Bounties / Re: Forcedeth ethernet port
« on: 2007.06.21, 11:24:12 »
Sorry for the delay, but been away for couple of days. But, I've changed the bounty name to Pauls recommendation and I think that the rest of the text works out.

Also, when it comes to update the bounty text, I'm actually think that it might be an good idea to set the person who suggested the bounty as owner of the article. In this case it's Cris and that would make sure that the suggester and as well the other staff can assist in updating material. An idea to aprove?

Excellent! I'll update the bounty task either today or during the weekend. But, I agree with the idea (I did read the earlier posting from Thomas and Paul) and support this change of the bounty.

Thanks Thomas for being a good sport with re-writing old replies again! We made some changes last night that hopefully would get ride of issues that we have had. Also I've changed so that we make a backup of the OS2 World database every 3rd hour (earlier it was every 24th hour) now until we we see that the system is stable.

There was some suggestions made regarding this port that it should be expanded to involvde Nvidia chipset for all NICs; due to our weekly disk problems; we lost 24 hours of data... So it would be great if we just could take this once more?

We have to start somewhere and if we could get 20 more NVIDIA nForce chipset hardware owners to add $14 each - well, then it's a really interesting sum to be cached in when the bounty is claimed!

Also let me know if there is anything you want to add or change; or we just pick up information as we go along from the supporting thread.

I just tried out to connect to the connect and did so without any problems; okey, this clearly isn't any help for you. But I honest have no clue why you're not able to connect to it. Question is then if other people have problem to connect to it.

While on the topic for the IRC - are there any suggestion for a specific topic that we could plan for and setup when it works for as many people in as many timezone?

Cris,

I've created the suggested bounty, Forcedeth ethernet port, and as well I've added contact form to both add and claim a bounty.

Also both the sub-pages Suggest Bounty and Claim Bounty has been updated with link to above form.

Efnet IRC net is open for everybody so it's odd that it says that your banned, but then again could be that you trying from a network that doesn't allow the irc traffic. The main reason why we choosed to make use of the Efnet was that it's available for everybody from everywhere. The only suggestion would be to try from a different network / ISP (office vs home).

Being able to c. .. .

While you mention Xvid/DivX I wonder if you also have tried to encode material yourself also, I noticed that Paul Smedley released a new version of mencoder that supports the encoding of mpeg4. Guess that this util would be a great tool in addition to the others in the article.

Earlier going back a couple of years there was also DivX Player/2 and Video/2 that supported divx. Are both project totally dear or has it migrated to any other project?

Speaking of spam; hopefully after the arrest of Robert Alan Soloway; the spam flood might decrease íf we're lucky and the court puts him away for a while. But, then again, if there is a marked for this kind of crap, it might be just a matter of time before a new spamking is around.... a few lines can be found here.

Events / Re: Warpstock Europe 2007

One things that I think is missing out from the Warpstock Europe event is more dialog and discussions - Often during presentations that people have found very interesting there is often way too less time to talk and discuss the topic itself. The improvement could either be done by adding specific time to each of the presentation for this and as well I think that there should be a great interest for quite a few to have as well moderated discussion sessions as well where a specific topic is on the table.

Security / OS/2 REXX files could lead to a denial of service
« on: 2007.06.11, 10:14:04 »
Okey, the subject wasn't totally fair - I know - but I thought this advisory was interesting since it seems that looking for OS2 Rexx files on a Mandriva system will crash the system! According the advisory, Mandriva Linux Security Update Advisory - file (MDKSA-2007:114):

The update to correct CVE-2007-1536 (MDKSA-2007:067), a buffer overflow
in the file_printf() function, introduced a new integer overflow as
reported by Colin Percival.  This flaw, if an atacker could trick a
user into running file on a specially crafted file, could possibly
lead to the execution of arbitrary code with the privileges of the
user running file (CVE-2007-2799).

As well, in file 4.20, flawed regular expressions to identify OS/2
REXX
files could lead to a denial of service via CPU consumption
(CVE-2007-2026).
