Hi Remy,

I removed '-compose' from DefaultMailParameters (don't know how that got there - maybe  from original eCS install?) and replaced ClamAVGUI.exe with this new one you suggest and now the 'write to GUI author' starts PMMail with Subject and your e-mail address inserted. Thanks!

Hi Remy,

  Here are my settings:

PMMail/2  Install Root C:\programs\PMMail\bin

WPURLDEFAULTSETTINGS:  DefaultMailExe  C:\programs\PMMail\bin\PMMail.exe
                                     DefaultMailParameters  -compose
                                     DefaultMailWorkingDir   C:\programs\PMMail\Accounts

This is how it was installed by PMMail on my machine.

HTH,

Dave McKenna

Remy,

OK, when I get some time I will try moving the Clamd.exe line in Config.sys to the end.

I just downloaded the latest ClamAVGUI (2.1.0s) and I still have the issue with 'write to GUI Author'. When I try, the program crashes and a little window very briefly appears (some kind of runtime console?). It also disappears quickly, but I could see that there are two lines in it and they start with:

546 ++ Def_mailparms = '-cwd" ' || substr(......

Rexx 0036  Error 36 running C:\Programs\CLAMAVGUI\CLAMAVGUI.EXE Line........

That's all I could make out.

Hi Remy,

I haven't had any trouble with running clamscan or clamdscan (I usually use clamscan). I can manually start clamd from the GUI, but I have had trouble booting with Run=clamd.exe in my config.sys. The trouble is that boot hangs on MPTSTART when it is present, so I'm not sure yet what the problem is (may be configuration). I'm new to ClamAV so I need to learn.

I also use PMMail, but I have not been able to get 'write to GUI author' to work - ClamAVGUI crashes and I get this error when I try:

Hi Remy,

Thanks for continuing to develop ClamAVGUI. I tried the new version 2.1.0 and I like the ability to stop a manually started scan - that works well. Everything else I use seems to work good so far.

One thing I just noticed (hadn't tried it before) - if I try to start ClamDaemon, it fails. Clamd.exe is in the directory /usr/sbin, but ClamAVGUI seems to look for it in /usr/bin and does not find it. This probably only applies to the RPM installed ClamAV.

Hi Remy,

Thanks for the update! This time I ran the WPI and it seemed to install correctly (at least a bunch of files were installed and objects created in the ClamAV folder that was created by RPM!), but at the end I got the same error message again. I tried to install again and I notice that the WarpIn database did not recognize that I had already installed ClamAVGUI, so it must not have been updated during the first attempt. Same error the second time too...

Now I can open the help PDF files - great! I think it didn't work before because I manually unpacked the WPI and the PDF's were not extracted into a 'Doc' folder - now they are there. The Red/Green indicator still is red... I do not have a main.cvd file, but I do have a main.cld file in /var/lib/clamav. I ran ClamAV DB update and it said everything was up to date... still have the red indicator though.

Hi Remy,

I just tried the update... now when I try to run the WPI I immediately get a message:

"Package "netlabs.org\ClamAV\Base" was referenced as a macro, but is not installed. Terminating." There is a 'Cancel' button...

Remy,

Thanks for updating ClamAVGUI! I am using it with the RPM installed version of ClamAV and it seems to work well.

A couple of small issues: Under 'Help', Clamscan, Clamdscan and Freshclam all start Lucide, but Lucide gives a 'File load error!' message. The pdf files are present in the ClamAVGUI directory. Also under 'Settings' in the ClamAV GUI dialog, 'ClamAV DB path' is set to 'c:\var\lib\clamav' and the database is there, but the red/green indicator to the right is red. Everything works fine anyway.

One other thing... when I tried to install the WPI, it complained that ClamAV was not installed (it was). It would not allow me to install at all so I used wic.exe to extract manually.

FWIW there is a file at: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/rpmdownloader.zip that is a GUI for getting RPM files from a list of repositories. I haven't figured out how to use it yet, but it looks interesting...

One thing I found about this RPM/YUM install: it does not set any SET PYTHON statements in the CONFIG.SYS. If you delete the bootstrap files after installing YUM (as recommended), then YUM will not work from the command line. I added:

SET PYTHONHOME=C:\usr\lib\python2.6
SET PYTHONPATH=C:\usr\lib\python2.6;C:\usr\share\yum-cli;C:\usr\lib\python2.6\lib-dynload;C:\usr\lib\python2.6\site-packages

to my CONFIG.SYS and now I can type things like YUM LIST on the command line and it actually works...

Pete,

The only package supposedly installable with YUM that I know about is ClamAV: http://web.os2power.com/yuri/ClamAV. I tried it but it wouldn't work :-(

There are no 'end user' instructions on the Netlabs site yet so I guess it is not ready for general usage yet.

My understanding is that you can install the package to any drive you want by setting the UNIXROOT=X: parameter in your CONFIG.SYS (X is the drive you want to use). Of course that means everything you install with YUM goes there...

<Comments, concerns, gripes, or complaints?>

Only to thank you for this exciting (and important IMHO) contribution to eCS! I'm really looking forward to being able to use it.

  Thanks!

Doug,

Try changing print resolution and see if it helps. I have been trying Alex T's psPrint package and have a similar issue where setting to 600x600 resolution prints 1/4 size. Only 300x300 prints proper size. It's a totally different printer (HP DeskJet 990C) though so may not apply to your situation.

Otherwise CUPs 1.4.5, Ghostscript 8.71 and Gutenprint 5.2.6 works fine here using the Socket:// backend. I found that unzipping CUPS 1.4.x over 1.3.11 causes problems. I had to delete the 1.3.11 CUPS tree, then install 1.4.5 (which means installing Gutenprint again too). Like Pete, I found GhostScript 9.00 has problems, so I stick to 8.71 for now.

The i960 ppd linked is really just a Gutenprint Canon BJC-8200 ppd. Have you tried installing the BJC-8200 directly from the CUPS web interface?
