Thanks Everyone,

I looked at everything that every suggested.  I wanted something simple and just want a stand-alone scheduling tool.  I did some more research and for a WPS enhancement that nearly made a v1.0 release so it looked like it was just about ready for prime time.  Well I tested the basic functionality and it works for me!

The WPS enhancement, EBScheduler from Earl B Crowder, at v.90 installs easy to WPS and really easy to use.  Every "Program" object gets another tab on the properties page called "Schedule".  Just play with the parameters and it is really quite self explanatory.  Maybe Serenity / Mensys might have a look at this and possibly find a way to incorporate it or its likeness into future eCS offerings.

Boy oh boy! I wish I had programing expertise or availability of programmers that know WPS programming.  It is so awesome that a tools / enhancement like EBScheduler and make WPS so much more usable.

Hi Herwig,

My schedule has been a real pain.  Nothing really getting done in the time slots targeted...

Here I go...  SAMBA Server and EVFSGUI seem to be working as hoped for eCS v2.0 GA for me.  I will drop the details later.

Thank you all who have contributed!

Best regards,

Utilities / Re: Form Overlay
« on: 2010.08.27, 07:50:01 »
Hi Raiko,

Nealy 20 years ago I built a C program for OS/2 v1.3 to build such an overlay into HP PCL based printers and then place text and numbers with grid coordinates onto the overlayed image.  The forms were tax forms, the overlay was a tiff image scanned from an original doc from a document scanner.

So, I know that my implementation from back then is not what you need now.  But my whole implementation used ESC codes that PCL understood to control the overlay and the grid process.  An idea might be to print your form from OpenOffice to a file.  Then maybe use an escape sequence to direct you printer to take the prn file a level 1 and then print from your software for the form contents.  The final contents would finish with a FF and the completed for would then print.

I know that I am shooting in the dark here, have not worked on such a project in nearly 20 years.  But maybe the ideas from me might offer a path forward in your thoughts...

Best regards,
-Todd

Hi All,

I need to find a simple Scheduler for eCS v2.0 GA.  The one in eCS v1.2 is exactly what I need, but Roderick told me many months ago that we were not going to be able to have that in eCS v2.x...

Any ideas?

TIA,
-Todd

Hi Everyone,

I have had difficulty in using SAMBA Server and the Client on eCS v2.0 GA.  Does anyone know a a step by step for implementing SAMBA Server and Client from a eCS v2 install?

TIA,

Hey Everyone,

Can anyone get me in touch with Doug Clark? He was our Warpstock host for Warpstock Denver 2004...

Networking / Re: Syslog - snmp loggong on eCS...

Hey Paul,

I think that would be great! I will be busy again for a few weeks, but then I hope to get back to this so I can build my early notification system for my dispersed network printers and firewalls.

I did look at the net-SNMP project in my previous research and did wonder what work would be entailed to port it to eCS.  The whole set of tools of net-SNMP appears to be quite feature rich as a whole.

Thank you for being a great supporter of eCS! Without you many of my tasks would be impossible to complete and I would be looking for Win based solutions.  Keep up the GREAT work!

With my best!
-Todd

Hi Mike,

Yes both, as I understand it and that is what I found so far; Syslog and SNMP are two separate technologies.  But I am not an expert and therefore am looking to get some education on each.  As I understand it eCS - OS/2 use syslog and many printers switches and other hardware use SNMP.  I have both type of equipment that I need to loog information from and then report to an email or SMS and history records on system performance and problems...

Hi,

I am looking for a syslog server that can handle snmp logging too.  Is there a solution for us on eCS?

TIA,

Applications / Re: System beeps through onboard speaker...
« on: 2010.05.17, 20:58:23 »
Thanks Pete,

But my rebooting is normal and the beep comes back.  I do not personally touch this computer everyday, but I have on occassion remoted to it and then find that the drives tools in eCenter just shows the drives and no sub-folders.  I was wondering if the WPS is running out of resources.  But all the other apps eAMP and VirtualPC/2 along with ZXMail and Peter Moylan's FTP server and MR/ICE all run fine with no problems for months and months... Just the annoying beep that just happens periodically...

Applications / System beeps through onboard speaker...

Hello All,

I have an eCS v.12MR system that beeps.  On on those sounding beeps that raises the hair on your neck every time your hear it.  I have not been able to get the timing down, but the beep happens maybe once every 10 minutes and sometimes shorter...  I have checked POPUPLOG.OS2 and nothing recent is listed.  I have no idea where else to check or what could be causing the beep...

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
-Todd

Hello All,

I am in need of some assistance...  I have tried to use SAMBA on eCS for small WinXPPro / Win7Pro workgroups.  I copied the files from the Win client to the share.  Then needed to copy a file to the same folder and that copy completed.  The resulting file I wanted to rename it.  I renamed it and then was told "Make sure the disk is not full or write protected."  I checked the local file on the eCS share and there were no restrictions of ReadOnly and the disk was not near full.  I then looked at the SAMBA Status Monitor and it told in the File tab that the file was DENY MODE = DENY NONE but the R/W was RDONLY...

Can someone explain what might be going on here?

TIA,
-Todd

Hardware / RAID 5 Recovery - Dell PowerEdge 4400 - Perc 3Di
« on: 2010.02.23, 13:20:24 »
Hi,

Does anyone have any ideas for recovering a RAID 5 container?

The client had physical disk 3 of 4 fail out in a RAID 5 container.  The client then used a physical disk from another identical spare system.  The physical disk was labeled as a member of 0 of a RAID 1 container.  Unknown by the client, this apparently, when initialized wipes out the other containers on the PERC controller.

I have exhausted my internal technical resources on how to retrieve the RAID 5 data.  Can someone give me a path forward?

Very Greatful,
-Todd

Programming / Re: WDBASIC IS A BAD JOKE

On Topic - Off Topic

The OS/2 - eCS platform needs every talented bit of gray matter that we can muster.  We have resources that are be absolutely amazing to keep eCS a viable platform for many of us consultants / commercial users / enthusiasts.  But when I see this kind of SMACK going on and the wasted O2 that has been consumed on the gray matter that has put together this SMACK; I wish I could put my own HAMMER down on this.  But then I set back and see what is shown here by all of this and can see that the wasted O2 from the distorted gray matter really shows for itself what the distortion is all about.  So by letting this air to the forum really shows that the OFFENDERS are really DETRACTORS of FORWARD POSITIVE MOVEMENT.  We, the forum members, will probably get our fill of this NONSENSE and turn up our SQUELCH to tune this GARBAGE RANT OUT.  But then again with this kind of BULL, it is really good to see that so many of the rest of our community really functions well and WE should really be PROUD of what WE have ACCOMPLISHED.  So this SMACK is a measure that these OFFENDERS do need to be present to show that WE, in reflecting what we really have, have a GREAT COMMUNITY and SO MUCH TO BE PROUD OF AS A COLLECTIVE OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE for propelling our Ecs technologies FORWARD!

I do not talk often.  I am too busy working on my own initiative to propel our eCS platform forward.  This might be a little hint of what the RANT fringe should do too.  ENOUGH SAID.

Thank You and My Best to All of Us,
Todd Simpson (aka NNYITGuy)
