Melf, that T43 would run cooler and suspend/resume would work better with APM than with ACPI.

My T60p runs cooler with 3.20.03 than it did with 3.20.02.

My X60 may run a bit cooler with 3.20.03, but the hangs on desktop start. These hangs it has always had on boot-up are worse with 3.20.03. I never had a hang with 3.20.02, which is great because it's the only ACPI thus far that didn't hang. Hangs are particularly bad for X60 because it then does a high temperature shutdown. For X60, it would be great if ACPI would run the machine cooler during the processing of config.sys.

I have heard that hangs on desktop start go back many years on many machines and that ACPI may only be involved by changing the timing.

The reactor widget works with both machines.

Good luck to all three of you!!!

Just two changes would make things better for eCS users.

1. allow IFS on devices with no partition table ("formatted like a floppy")
2. allow LVM to assign a drive letter to devices with no LVM info without modifying the device

I guess there is also the issue with devices with large block sizes, but I'm not sure that stops many people.

Hi

I found the mistake that prevented me from loading some drivers card on one machine. Note that multimak still is not capable in this project, there is no one who is able to do so. So I apologize for such a long delay with added cards - I had to solve the first problem with multiple cards. Also decided not to develop the project on the basis of Uniaud Linux like and take the source code of the Freebsd. If you read the license, there I am not obliged to give the source code on demand. Since I had already done a lot of work on adaptation of Linux and have it published, then I'm not going to close this road for those who need it is GPL. But personally I think a port from Linux - the road to nowhere. So, now. FreeBSD.

First, Pasha, I want to thank you for your work on OS/2 and eComStation. I have used your software many times and still use a lot of it.

About the license; for many of us, it makes little difference which license you use. The software is yours, and you choose to give it to our community and we thank you. However, for me to include software in a business environment, I have to think what will happen if the customer discovers a bug. Then I am responsible to fix it. If I can convince you to fix it, OK, but if not, then I am in an awkward position. This is an important problem, because the WiFi driver is a crucial part of a modern laptop. So, if the source can be available, then I can convince any developer, or even try to fix it myself, and that looks better from a business perspective.

In the end, it is your software to do as you like.

If suspend/resume is crucial to you, then the T43 (2xxx) and T43p are best, and for subnotebook, X41 because they all run with APM.

If you want a fast, cheap notebook, the oldest T60 (195x) are best because they run SNAP graphics accelerated. Same for subnotebook, X60 runs great.

If you want faster, but with panorama, T61p may be best for widescreen, and T60p for standard screen. These two are the last with working WiFi. WiFi now works with lots more WPA2 access points due to newer port of WPA supplicant.

If you are willing to live without suspend/resume and WiFi and maybe more, you can use some newer notebook.

I sell the above notebooks preloaded with eCS on my website.

Mensys says Suspend/Resume is coming soon for most notebooks.

Applications / Re: Mesa2 - Abandonware?
2012.05.15, 04:04:53
At least in USA, where the company was located, abandonware is not legal to distribute. As far as I know, the owner of the company died, and his wife holds the rights. People close to Mensys were working to save Mesa/2. I don't know how that worked out.

Applications / Re: RPM YUM error
2012.05.07, 05:57:23
Even though RPM/YUM failed me here, it was easily corrected. I have written Suntan Special to install/configure programs distributed through zip, custom installers, IBM installer, Feature Installer, WarpIN and now RPM/YUM. I'm probably more likely than most to encounter bugs and inconsistencies.

I think RPM/YUM is the best thing yet. When it works, it works very well. I'll be digging around RPM/YUM to do more interactivity with Suntan Special. Can you explain where the documentation is for REXX additions to RPM packages?

Sure enough, removing my copy of Python made RPM/YUM work again. I was using Python 2.6 same as RPM/YUM, but removing it made RPM/YUM work. I was using Python in support of Scribus, so I'll have to see what it takes for those to to get along together.

yum clean all worked on the first machine, but now I have one with a nearly identical error. yum clean all doesn't change anything.

I'd like to remove/reinstall rpm yum and then I can install everything else. Is there an automated way to uninstall rpm yum?

Are you sure that it has USB other than EHCI adapters? I have a lenovo ThinkPad T510, and it has two EHCI adapters, and no others. USB 1.0, and 1.1, work fine when using only the USBEHCD.SYS  driver (two of them). Somehow, the hardware supports the older USB versions. FWIW, I am using the latest drivers as posted at HOBBES:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/system/drivers/misc/usbhcd183.zip

I'm also using 10.183 drivers, although 10.162 behave the same. The mouse and keyboard work (in legacy mode) through a KVM. They work fine until I switch away. The computer never detects that I've switched back. You might not notice that if you don't use a KVM.

I got an ASRock H55M-LE, which would be pretty similar to the Intel part

This one can boot from eCS 2.1, but has several problems.

1. eCS does not detect any USB 1.1, so USBUHCD.SYS is not installed. Two instances of USBEHCD.SYS are loaded and USB 2.0 works, but USB keyboard and mouse are flaky without USB 1.1 support.

2. No sound from UniAud. UniMix gives only three parameters to play with -- none of them enable sound.

3. Panorama works OK, but if widescreen is enabled, it no longer syncs with the monitor, and looks bad.

I open more tickets than most, because I go through a lot of computers. In this case, the computer is sold, so I guess there is no point in raising the issue. It won't be long before I get another computer with a Realtek. If the driver doesn't work in that one, I'll open an ticket. I'd like to have my tickets correspond to hardware where I can actually test a fix.

In this case, I tried all of the MultiMac Realtek betas, but none of them got an IP, even ones that worked for other people.
