Setup & Installation / Re: Wakeup after Power Off
« on: 2009.03.29, 17:30:24 »
OK, I've created ticket #395

http://trac.netlabs.org/acpi/ticket/395

If I boot MS-DOS, it shuts down just fine.

Setup & Installation / Wakeup after Power Off
« on: 2009.03.27, 17:36:26 »
I set up a number of systems, and I like to have them power off at system shutdown. Under the old IBM APM driver and the new eCS ACPI/APM drivers, I usually could get this to happen.

But on more modern systems, I've been seeing a new behavior on power off. The system powers off as I think it should, but then it wakes up one or two seconds later. One system needed to have jumpers reset on the motherboard relating to powering up in response to a USB peripheral.

Now on my latest system, based on an Intel G41 chipset, nothing in BIOS nor any jumper on the motherboard make any difference. The system always wakes up after a power off. Nothing on the interwebs suggests that Linux or Windows have any problem shutting the system down.

Even poweroff.exe supplied with ACPI 3.14 does not avoid wake after power off.

Any ideas why this is happening? Does anyone have a ticket already with this problem?

Article Discussions / Re: Uniaud 1.1.4RC7 now available
« on: 2009.03.09, 16:13:43 »
The same trap occurs with RC6 and Paul Smedley's uniaud builds.

Apart from that, RC7 is working very nicely here. HDA support is removed from RC7, so people with that hardware will be using Paul's uniaud builds, I suppose.

I may be suggesting something you already tried, but did you turn off ACPI in the pre-boot menu? That would seem to be important to me, but if you already did that then disregard this message. Maybe you should turn off USB in the pre-boot menu as well, but do you have a floppy drive to put in your install key?

Also, maybe eCS 1.2r install disk would do better (no ACPI...)

Networking / Re: LAN logon (Domain)
« on: 2009.02.14, 18:12:19 »
Thanks for the replies.

Changing IBMLAN.INI has the desired effect. Rebooting is required for the changed domain name to take effect.

Changing the parameters of the LAN Logon properties does also fill in the new domain, but the old domain name is still stored somewhere, apparently loaded into memory using the name in IBMLAN.INI in the "domain =" line.

I also tried changing in OS2.INI the LM_WORKSTATION, PRIMARY_SRVDOM key, but that didn't work.

The LAN logon (Domain) screen features entry fields for

Name
Password
Domain

The domain is pre-filled with the domain name. I've move to a new domain. How can I get the LAN logon window to pre-fill the name of the new domain instead of the old one?

Open Bounties / Re: OS/2 native port of Java 6

Edit: Any contact to https://java7os2.dev.java.net/servlets/ForumMessageList?forumID=3204 ?

This project, while it has not started, does have a good list of developers. If you're going to set up a repository for source code and build procedures, this has a ready-made spot to host them.

Programming / Re: gcc 4.3.3
« on: 2009.02.02, 06:26:09 »
OK, I did what Andy said, and hello world is compiling nicely. PMMail/2 isn't compiling just yet. Is it possible that GCC 4.3.3 is pickier about some things than GCC 3.3.5? I'm getting a lot of warnings I wasn't getting before. Like this:

acct.c:140: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 3 of 'acct_show_stats' differ in signedness

What I'm trying to figure out now is why this statement (located in a loop)

        (volatile int) folder_n_reindexing       = 0;

compiles under 3.3.5, but under 4.3.3 gives error: lvalue required as left operand of assignment.

Programming / gcc 4.3.3

I'm trying to use Paul Smedley's build of GCC to buils PMMail/2.

Most OS/2 compilers are stand alone, and work independently to compile source code. All of the compilers, GCC 3.3.5, VAC and OpenWatcom, work this way.

Paul's build is supposed to just fit into the Mozilla build tools. I need it to work differently to make PMMail/2 build.

Forgetting PMMail/2 for the moment, I'll just try hello.cpp

Code: [Select]
// a small C++ program
#include <iostream>
int main()
{
    std::cout << "Hello, world!" << std::endl;
    return 0;
}

Installing GCC 4.3.3 for the moment in \usr, and executing the gcc433.cmd I find there, I try to compile hello.cpp, and I get a load of error messages on stderr.

I've attached a text file captured from stderr.

Can anyone explain about setting up the environment for this compiler?

Hardware / Re: erratic mouse, SciTech Pro SNAP
« on: 2009.01.30, 18:32:44 »
I was using an NVidia GeForce 6600 video card with Amouse and a PS/2 mouse. My mouse worked perfectly with that combination. I don't think it's hardware at all.

Does your mouse work OK in a full screen WinOS2 session? There was a bug in the IBM mouse driver, and maybe it can't easily be removed from your system.

Setup & Installation / Re: ACPI shutdown on rc6 gives reboot
« on: 2009.01.25, 03:22:14 »
I had this on a machine I built recently. The culprit was my monitor. The monitor had a USB hub, and I'd plugged that into the computer. When I shutdown, the computer would instantly reboot.

There was a jumper on the motherboard to allow the computer to boot on a signal from a USB device. I had this jumper set to disable the boot. When I changed the jumper to enable booting, the computer would shutdown and stay off. I guess the documentation for the motherboard was backwards.

I was thinking of migrating, but then I found that the communications hardware is end-of-life for Windows. Customer really wants Windows, but I think they'll be staying with OS/2 for a while...

Hardware / Fast graphics hardware for eComStation

I'm selling eCS-preloaded computers on my website, and I want to make sure that people get a good value for their money. Part of that is graphics performance. I can see a few posts of people who rely on Windows benchmarks, and I know those are pretty far removed from reality for eCS users.

I use Sysbench 0.95 to benchmark the graphics cards.

CardPM-MarksDive-Marks
NVidia GeForce 66005112315
Intel 945G3962870

All measurements were at 1440 x 900, but changing the resolution didn't make a lot of difference. The Intel 945G was an on the motherboard adapter with shared memory. The NVidia PCI-Express was a beast with a heat sink that took up two slots in the computer.

Both graphics adapters were using SNAP graphics as the driver.

Setup & Installation / Re: Multiple SCSI adapters
« on: 2009.01.18, 21:22:41 »
I've solved this for my simple PCI machine.

The AIC7870.ADD driver will not load unless a peripheral is attached. Once I connected a SCSI hard drive, the driver loaded without issue.

I reenabled all my other devices, and intentionally caused an IRQ conflict with the USB 2.0 driver. The adapter and hard drive still work. There is no problem sharing IRQ for the AIC7870.ADD driver.

I hope the same is true for my Ultra320 host adapter.

Setup & Installation / Re: Multiple SCSI adapters
« on: 2009.01.18, 19:19:48 »
I tried this again with a simpler SCSI adapter and a plain PCI computer running eCS 2.0 RC 6a.

Using an AHA2940 PCI SCSI adapter that is known to work with OS/2 and the following statements in config.sys

BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.DMD
BASEDEV=AIC7870.ADD /V
BASEDEV=OS2ASPI.DMD /ALL

with all of these statements ahead of DaniS506.ADD or DANIATAPI.FLT, I still get

AIC7870.ADD failed to load.

With the simpler machine I am sure that there is no IRQ conflict. What can be causing this?
