Utilities / So...

...I have been thinking about this since eCS 2.0 has come out and wanted to hear what others thought, if it was a good (or semi good) idea I would move forward on it.

I really love Object Desktop 2.0 and I think I would be hard pressed to use eCS 2.0 without it. With that I am really wanting to email Brad Wardell about opening the OS/2 Version. It would be great to have the eCS team able to add it to the install (if the user wanted), with all the updates (2.02) and any fixes/additions the good people at Mensys/Serenity Systems could muster, it would be a killer app.

Of course, this might never happen and I believe this was asked before from Stardock, but Object Desktop 2.0 came out in 1998 and I cannot believe they are making any money from it nor are they using any of the technology today.

Heck, I would be so inclined to ask for the entire library of OS/2 software they have created over the years to "donate" to the community.

I mean between all the apps and games they put out it would be some real wealth.

Anyways, I have had a few glasses of wine but this is something I have really mulled over and I am hoping we could put our heads together and figure out. If everyone thinks there might be even a remote possibility, I would have no problem writing up (a letter to Stardock/Brad Wardell) something for everyone to look at, prof, and then send out.

Never know, after 12 years they might just be OK with letting it all go.

Thanks!

Pete,

Sorry, I was not clear. I know that eCS is not in charge of Firefox port but I was just wondering if anyone heard of Firefox 4.0 for eCS, I know a lot of great work has been done on version 3. Just looking at the future.

Hardware / Re: My Cell Phone and eCS 2.0

Its impractical for me to remove my SD Card so I think I will wait (and hope) that the improved USB Stack in eCS 2.1 will help.

Thanks again guys!

I am excited for some of these updates, one thing I have not heard is if they are going to update Firefox to 4.0 when it comes out. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Hardware / My Cell Phone and eCS 2.0
2010.09.04, 02:28:47
So I have a Droid X (Awesome phone) and I want to use the USB cable to connect to my eCS computer and transfer pictures and some data from the 16meg SD micro SD Card. When I connect though, eCS Does not see the SD Card and the phone will not charge (which I find very odd).

Now, the cable and phone have been tested on my Windows XP machine and it works fine, so I'm thinking it might be something with the USB Stack in eCS 2.0? If so I guess I just have to wait and hope eCS 2.1 will fix this.

Anyone have any luck connecting their cell phone via USB to eCS 2.0 and able to move data? This is one of the last things I am trying to do (hardware wise) in eCS that I cannot figure out.

Thanks!

I just wanted to post here about what I finally was able to do. Weave simply does not work for me at least. I was pointed to SyncPlaces but that did not work for me either.

I finally was able to get Xmarks working without a problem at all!

It works in Windows and eCS and now all my bookmarks are synchronized! An added bonus, there is also Quickfox Notes, from the same company, which lets you make sticky notes in Firefox so if you go to another computer they are also there! It's a nice plugin and I think it has many more functions then weave.

Anyways, I just thought I would share my success and thank everyone for their help!

I am not using a static IP address, I guess I am confused about why GTIRC will work but not anything else...I would think nothing would work or it all would work. I am reading the other posts not and will reply soon.

I installed that IRQ software and it pegged my CPU!!!

I was able to take a picture of it before I REMed it out in the config.sys

Saijin_Naib,

I don't think I have them installed since I have never heard of those programs...

&

warpcafe ,

For a month or more I only had Firefox running. I then installed GTIRC and noticed it working after the 30 min limit. The reason I installed FTP Browser was because I was doing my FTP though firefox, when GTIRC was lasting longer than 30 min I thought it was a Firefox problem so I installed FTP Browser, unfortunately it also has the same problem with losing connection after 30 min.

&

RobertM,

I go my network driver from hobbies and the driver you suggested is what I use.

Where can I see if there is an IRQ Conflict?

Thanks again everyone!

I have attached a picture of my info, I hope this helps.

Besides what is listed, I have a Linksys router (WRT54G) and I have DSL with ATT.

My nextwork card is a Realtec chipset 8139/8130/x810 Fast Eithernet adapter.

Thanks!

Ok...weird situation here:

When eCS 2.0 boots up everything runs very smoothly. I can get on the Internet and things are fast, life is good.

I run three programs on the Internet most of the time:

1. Firefox - ver 3.5.3
2. FTP Browser - 1.71
3. GTIRC - Ver - 3.00

After 30 minutes (to the second), Anything that is on the Internet loses connection and I go no where. The very weird thing is that GTIRC still works!?!? I still can have and receive conversations will people for hours. The only way I can get Firefox and FTP Browser working again is to reboot, then the clock starts again until 30 min elapses, then I have to reboot again if I want to surf.

Sorry...this one is weird, not sure where to even start.

Setup & Installation / Re: eCS Bootup logo
2010.07.24, 15:18:55
Got it!

This is what I did...

1. Create a 16-color bitmap (standard colors), 640 x 480, with your logo somehow. It does not matter which painting program you use for it.
2. Run PMView and convert the bitmap to the OS/2 LGO format.
3. Run "attrib -h os2logo from a os2 window
4. Saved the new file over the old one in the C: drive
5. Rebooted and done!

Not sure if that was the best way but it worked for me.

Thanks again guys...you all rock.

Redek,

Thank you for showing me how to unhide files, I need to use the command line more...

I have gotten dumbed down from using windows for so long.

Just tried again to follow the steps to make my own background, rebooting now...

Setup & Installation / Re: eCS Bootup logo

Ok...this is not easy...

and I just think I did a hugh Boo Boo...

I tried installing Bootlogo program from Cyber and it did not work after I put in my start up and rebooted a few times. I converted the logo though PM View and nothing. I removed from my startup...no biggie.

I tried adding the file to the OS2 folder and it did not work. Worse, I thought that I would go into the OS2 folder properties and hit the hidden box under the file tab, now I cannot see my OS2 folder!!!!!

How do I find it again...and hell with changing my startup screen, to much of a pain.

Thanks...and sorry, just a little annoyed...this is not easy.
