I'm rather biased against this port. Instead, we should ask Chris Wohlgemuth if he would implement the missing features in Audio/Data CD Creator and give the money to him.

Additionally, unless it can be ported using odin or something - I would suspect the chances of a port occurring are 0%.

How many opensource win32 apps have been ported to OS/2?

Open Bounties / Re: Filezilla client Port

Supporting thread for the Filezilla client Port bounty.

I've already built Filezilla - but it needs wxwidgets fixes to make it usable................

(Update) part of the problems were due to a compilation problem - there are still display issues but it may be worth releasing a build.... I'll try update to latest Filezilla source (3.0.4) and do some testing

A build of filezilla is now at http://download.smedley.info/filezilla-3.0.4-os2-20080108.zip

This should be considered an alpha level release

Note the following from the readme.os2
Release Notes:
1) Requires a copy of libc063.dll which is available from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.3-csd3.zip
2) SFTP currently doesn't work - Filezilla gives a warning about being unable to find the executable, but if you tell it where it is using the suggested environment variable, it won't load
3) Toolbar icons don't display
4) Filezilla crashes a lot
5) Warning sometimes appears about Timer creation failed
6) Did I mention Filezilla crashes a lot?

Enjoy!

Paul

Networking / Re: Understanding SAMBA's Best Uses

EVFS basically == netdrive + samba plugin

It looks like Netdrive makes SAMBA much easier to configure with the coming eComstation 2.0 GA.

Question:  Is Netdrive built into eCS, or; is the Netdrive Plug-in only built into eCS?

Note that eCS 2.0 GA will only have a Samba CLIENT - not the SERVER.

EVFS is a new product - that I assume is somewhat based on Netdrive - but it will only work with the Samba netdrive plugin.

I've tried this guide before, but I didn't succeed though it is a thourough step by step guide. I think it is the unix way of thinking I've a bit hard to understand. I also had problems when trying to use the sambaplugin with netdrive. So this new GUI was quite intuitive and easy to understand and I hope they will extend the configuration possibilities to also include printing setup.

Funny really - cos at the end of the day - EVFS basically == netdrive + samba plugin - just the interface is different :)

But how about networkprinting and samba? For me availability to a networkprinter is a must, but what is the requirements for making a printershare?

At least "in theory" for my situation, without ever having configured SAMBA, Network Printing and File Sharing appear to be good goals.

-- It looks like SAMBA would be a good "common ground" for all operating systems in your network.
-- The suggestion for a thorough SAMBA "how-to-article" under OS/2-eCS makes perfect sense.

Samba/2 really isn't that hard to configure - see http://svn.netlabs.org/samba for a walkthrough/howto and there's also a mailing list where questions can be asked.

At home here, I've connected successfully from:
- Macbook running MacOS X 10.5.1
- Fedora Linux
- Mandrake Linux
- Mediagate MG-35 (Media player)
- eCS
- Windows XP Home
- Windows 2000

Is there a port of SWIG for OS/2 ???
[...[

Built out of the box with my build environment.

I appreciate the gesture, Smedley.

If it built under your dev environment with no issues, it implies that I have to first address my own environment issues before I can proceed any further.

In case you didn't know - you can download my build environment from my site at http://os2ports.smedley.info

Cheers,

Paul.

We should have SilverLight as well if possible.
Perhaps Serenity Systems could get Microsoft to release the source code to port it to OS/2-eCS?  ???  Novell ported Silverlight to Linux under a different name.   8) I do not know if Apple ported it to their os.
Yeah or hell could freeze over - why would Microsoft do anything to aid Serenity?

Hi Robert,

Apache runs fine as long as modphp.dll is REM'd out in the config file. Otherwise, Apache crashes and generates this in the POPUPLOG.OS2 (yes, same error twice):

------------------------------------------------------------

12-18-2007  18:53:39  SYS2070  PID 0086  TID 0001  Slot 00dc
R:\APPS\APACHE2\BIN\HTTPD.EXE
BZ2->PHP5.__safe_erealloc
127

An old copy of php5.dll is being loaded - check for duplicate copies of the dll.

Cheers,

Paul.

Programming / Re: Apache Portable Runtime (APR) and Harmony.
« on: 2007.12.04, 10:56:03 »
I have had partial success compiling the most recent APR 1.2.12 layer under the EMX and Innotek's port of the GCC compiler (cool --I assume-- because there is no Odin Win32 layer, that I know of, to execute the compiler).  Before going deeper into the issues that I am experiencing, I would like to know if anyone has knowledge of an already successful APR build under OS/2.

A diff that I use to build Apache2 (which also uses APR) is at http://dev.smedley.info/apr-1.2.7.patch

Alternately, a prebuilt APR/APRUTIL are included in my build environment.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Paul,
Which debugger are you using? I assume that you are using gcc 3.x which is incompatible with emx gdb. One reason why I don't use gcc 3.x is because I don't know of a debugger which works with it.

I use the IBM VAC debugger - which works with gcc provided the app is linked with -Zomf

Cheers,

Paul.

Networking / Re: How ican join OS/2 on active directory
« on: 2007.11.27, 00:43:49 »
I'm having problem adding os/2 warp into active directory. How i can  map os2 on my file server running windows 2003 active directory.

FWIW - some progress is being made on this.  Using a java kerberos client, and a kerberos enabled build of samba, we've been able to browse resources on a win2k03 server using eCS.

Next I need to debug why kinit (from kerberos) isn't working correctly, and integrate the necessary changes into Netdrive to make the access more seamless.

Stay tuned.....

Update: I hacked the source for smbcd.exe and once you're authenticated with kinit (the Java version) I've successfully browsed a share on a Windows 2003 server using Netdrive.

Still working on debugging the C version of kinit - looks like a select() call is the problem, but if anyone wants to play around - please contact me for a kerberos enabled smbcd.exe and a mudmap of how to set it up - paul at smedley dot id dot au.

Cheers,

Paul.
