Hi,

FYI:

I think it is better to start a new topic, following this one here: http://www.os2world.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,63/topic,1737.30/

Got a Lenovo X200T with an inbuild Sony Ericcson F3507G 3G Modem. Try to get this to work. Did modify usb_modeswitch.conf with the parameters of the card: vendor: 0DBD and product ID 1900. Got a first result here. Have to check exactly what it means, I think it recognizes the card = good , but somehow stops.

Will give the usbecd driver of Wim Brul a try later this day, will receive a needed SIM card for this today as well so that I can try to get access to the net via Injoy and the very good howto presented for this by Ed Durrant.

I will keep you informed.

Any hints - as allways  ::)  - really welcome and appreciated!

Applications / Impression - Using Stylus
2010.09.24, 10:32:53
FYI: Hi, just a picture to show "Stylus in Motion"
#23
Hi,

FYI: Just connected my X200 Dockingstation with a Diplay Port to DVI cable with
the 21" Monitor I have got. The X200T with the installed SNAP 3.18 (full) with
eComStation 2 booted without any problems with a very sharp and clear view.
Maxiumum resolution is availiable (1650X1080 in my case)

See attached picture.

Further information: How to install SNAP with modern chipset Intel4500?: While
initial installation of eCS 2 choose "Panorama Vesa". Once Installation is
finished, delete the SNAP folder on your boot Drive. Get the SNAP 3.18 full
edition (not the one that comes with eCS2) with the free availiable registration
code and install it. Reboot and for me the SNAP works, even in VESA 3.0 mode it
is not slower as the Panorama but also cuts some Panorma deficits with SDL and
Virtual PC applications.

IMPORTANT HINT: If you reboot with SNAP the first time and your monitor stays
black and says something like "out of adjustment" wait until the eCS is booted
(even if you can not see the WPS), then press ctrl+alt+del and you will see the
blue menu. Choose C to go to command line, change to the SNAP directory you
created during SNAP install, type : gactrl.exe to start the SNAP control
program, choose 2 for LCD refresh control, adjust to 60 MHZ, press ESC several
times to get bakc and the WPS will appear (hopefully :-) )

Hi,

the work with the new Stylus Driver for my Lenovo "X200T" project I am still working on leads me to the following question:

Do you think it makes sence to install eCS2 on such a Tab or Pad (whatever they are called)? May it be impossible (because of hardware/Driver restrictions) - or may it be possbile but useless (no way for a reasonable onor effective use) or may it be....

Every suggestion is welcome!

For sure the i-pad is not a candidate for this, but it may be a Tab like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WeTab that is based on Netbook (Intel technology).

What might be possible:

- Installation itself: it does have a USB connector, so might be via USB CD
- Virtual keyboard (already existing)
- Big Icons (already existing)

- and essential: Touch Screen support - but because the new Stylus Driver is already designed as a part of a new Touch screen driver - see: http://home.hccnet.nl/w.m.brul/index.html this might happen, but Multitouch may be impossible but not needed at all for eComStation.

What's your opinion?

Hi,
here http://www.os2.de/news/?area=1#11007 I wrote down "my" story about getting eComStation to run on a modern Laptop. I do not know if Thomas will do me the favour to tranlsate it once again into english, but I am afraid my english is not good enough and it is that quite long... ;-) - Yes - I am to lazy!

So please do use google translator if you are interested in, sorry for that inconvinience!

Hardware / Demovideo: eCS 2 on Tablet PC
2010.09.14, 10:42:32
Hi,

the development of the Digitzier Driver for eCS is making progress. YOu can
watch a demovideo here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7wUQo3WD8A

Sorry for the bad quality, I do have to get a better camera, but at least the
picture is not bouncing that much, so I do make progress.

Comment in German but I guess one can see what I try to explain.

The video will be replaced by one with a better quality later.

Enjoy

has been uploaded right before the 1.st of April.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ5MGBUdiaw

That is the last short video related to OS/2 - eCS for me, this chapter is closed now, hope you enjoy.
It is produced in 1080p by the way.

What is your opinion on this:

Should I better delete it?

Hi,

just for those interested: bought a used Thinkpad T42P and installed Warp 4 FP 15 on it. Because of some concern about this in the Thinkpadforum in Germany I took some screenshots and placed those there. Unfortunately if one is not a registered user it is not possible to view the pictures. So I decided to place them here:

http://www.commtalk.org/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/showthreaded.pl?Cat=1,3,16&Board=os2talk&Number=77974&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5

as well. Just click the messages and the "Anhang" link at the left side.

May bring back some memories ;-)

Hope you enjoy.

Hardware / Next Lenovo Notebook generation
2010.02.17, 14:59:12
Hi,

just read this here about the upcoming (starting this february) next Lenovo generation.

http://www.ubook.at/hardware/modelle-lenovo/details-lenovo/

The problems here will be:
- even new WLAN (Intel 6300)
- maybe forced to use AHCI (No comaptibiliy mode)
- New Grafik Hardware

Yes , I know:
- there are other brands around
- one could keep going on with the current hardware (if you are albe/want to make/ want to live with the modifications/restrections already given) or just buy second hand

but how long will this last and how will this effect the idea of "attracting new users"...

Unfortunately eComStation 2.0GA is still not there and as far as I have seen there are no informations about a release date. What I fear is the fact that, if it takes another half or year to release eComStation 2 it will be uselesse for a lot of users, because there will be no way to install it on modern mobil hardware.

Thats realy a pitty!

I remember the days Warp 4 arrived - the press wrote something like: to fast - to early - because it was released after a very short beta phase just to keep in time with the new Windows NT 4. What do we have to state for eComStation: To slow - to late?

I know - a lot of people are sick about these kind of discussions, I remeber the discussion we had last year last june, BUT: I think the end of the story is close at hand. What I think is: Release eCS NOW - if it takes another 9 or 12 months it will be to late.

Or should we - I -  better stop discussing eCS 2.0?

Hardware / eCS on a Lenovo X200T
2010.02.14, 12:26:53
Hi,
my Lenovo X200T Laptop allways lacked the WLAN and LAN support for eCS because of having no drivers for the Hardware (Intel 5300). But I did not want to give up  ;)

All my efforts to get the Intel via GENMAC Unsupported mode to run ended unfortunately without a usable result. So I decided to change the WLAN Adapter itself. But Lenovo blocks using other WLAN cards (even if those are IBM branded) with a BIOS option that one can not change. So the Thinkpad starts but freezes with an error message (wrong WLAN Hardware) and does not go on.

To overcome this one had to use a modified BIOS, a special BIOS, I got information about this from a german Forum. But there is allways a risk once you use it, warranty is affected as well. But there have been some succesfull reports with the same model I have got, so I decided to try it. All went good.

I watched an official Lenovo support video how to dissamble the X200T. In fact it was not as diffcult as for the most Netbooks I have. Once I changed the hardware I was able to start eCS and install the GENMAC Driver for the IBM Intel 3945 I replaced.

But - a new problem came up: before I was able to use the SNAP driver in VESA mode for the Intel 4500 chipset. After replacing the WLAN card I was only able to use the GRADD driver, SNAP and Panrama crashed with an exeption. But I was lucky again: The Bugreport 2652 at ecomstation.com described the same problem (with an Lenovo T500 there) and fortunately there in this Bug Report a patched GRADD.SYS is provided!!! Thanks for this!!! So I installed the Panorama Driver and overrides the gradd.sys with the new one from the bug report BEFORE a reboot. And now it works  ::) - see picture.

So for me eComStation is quite usefull again with my "modern" Lenovo. I have got to test some other things now, i.e. using SMP switch seems to block the WLAN adapter, even with the ACPI 3.18.

Hi, I just copy here what I have written at the eCS yahoo group to spread the information:

(If you want to follow the thread there: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/eComStation/message/82388  )
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
sold my three Laptops/Netbooks via ebay and bought the one, that fits all my
needs: Lenovo X200T Tablet (no Multitouch). With 4 GB RAM and 500GB HDD it seems
to be a good choice. I am still waiting for Lenovo to send my ordered XP
recovery CDs to replace Vista with the "usual" mixture of eCS and XP.

What might be interesting - espacially for Ed Durrant :-) - I installed eCS 2.0
RC7 inside Virtualbox in VISTA. Installed the addons. Then I was able to use the
Tablet device (PEN) to work with the eCS inside the virtual machine (for me it
was surprising, I guess experts do expect it because the Pen is just seen as a
mouse) . But even though - thats a nice feature.

Question: As soon as I will get the XP I will try to install eCS. It is clear
for me, that some parts will for sure not work (WLAN,WWAN,Bluetooth,Webcam
a.s.o) - but I want to give it a try. I already downloaded the latest availiable
PEN and Tablet Drivers for OS/2 - eCS and see if there is a way....
Is there anyone out with having experience in using OS/2 or eCS with Tablet PCs?

Any hint welcome!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later this day I will post a video at youtube about it (Virtualbox Tablet)

Cheers

Hi,

I just want to know:

Is there a kind of censorship at os2world.com? The problems to read some threads here rised for me during the last 2 months. It is still not possible for me to access the threads like:

- status update on ecomstation 2.0
- status update on ecomstation 2.0 II

and actual:

- Devcon - Discuss ACPI with the developers...

What makes me worry is that all these threads includes some kind of critics against some parts of the eCS devemopement.

Hi all,

this is to let you know that there is a lively open discussion about this with special proposals. It is called "Plan B" and today I started the second step of it.

First step, a few days ago: http://de.os2.org/forum/diskussion/?list=122374

Brand new today:  http://de.os2.org/forum/diskussion/?id=122485

While written in German please use google or something else to translate!

Suggestions, Opinions, Participation PRO / CONTRA highly welcome! For sure, you can write in english if you like!

Hi,

hope you enjoy! And hope that you might see why I would still like the use ecomstation on modern hardware.

Hi,

the original thread seems to be unreachable, even if I follow the given hint. Thorolf asked me to publish two mails he sent me because he can not register here anymore.

So, this comments are not from me, I just copy and paste the given text.

The followi. .. .

Sorry,

but this is to late, I fear. While the "Time syncronisation with Bulgaria" is fixed these things here happen as Thorolf Godawa tells here http://de.os2.org/forum/diskussion/?id=122090 (sorry, it has to be translated into English):

- Dani stopped Development of DANI Dirvers
- Willibald Meyer does not see any sense any more in further Development of GENMAC
- Peter Weilbacher does not have the time to get his Mozilla Envirement running

Other German Developers already switched to MAC or starting to find an alternative.

For me the lack of support of WLAN and LAN Hardware is the KO criteria. There is no support for modern chipsets, especially those launched since the last year (like Intel 5100 and so on).

I know that Mensys told before to have resources to keep all these things going on, but I have to be honestly and polite - I hope this becomes true.

The current status of eComStation in my opinion allows to install on hardware with an support of the most important things (Graphics, USB, LAN, WLAN) only if it is about two years old. And this will become rapidly worse. Otherwise you have to break warranties while dissambling components (espacially for notebooks and netbooks) and may destroy parts of the hardware (as happend to me unfortunately) or you have to ask for a special supplier.....

I really feel sorry for this and did have patience (I guess really a lot patience) and paid quite some money for it over the past 5 years but provided with these news it is now time for me.

Hi,

here is one question: Most of the netbooks still do come with the Intel 950GMA
chipset. This Chipset includes the Intel 945GM grafic chipset. This chipset is
supported by SNAP 3.18 as written in the according readme.

But SNAP refuses to install the support because of an "unsupported chipset". So,
now the question:

Is there a way to force SNAP to install support for a certain Chipset (like the
GENMAC method: SET GENMAC_INSTALL_ISLIST) by using a special parameter or
command? Or another way: can I "disguise" the 950GMA and tell it is a 945?

Thanks for any hints!

Hardware / ASUS EEE 1008HA Seashell
2009.06.21, 09:11:49
Hi,

bought one yesterday, already installed eComStation 2.0 RC 6a as usual. What is working "out of the box":

- Sound (Realtek ALC 0269)
- Video (Intel GMA 950 with PANORAMA)
- USB

Not working (dispite the usual (Bluetooth, USB Webcam ...):

- LAN (Atheros AR 8231)
- WLAN (Atheros AR 9285)

Not tested yet:

- SMP mode (has an ATOM N280 1,66 MHz instead of the "Usual N270") guess it will work without problems

Product Information given here:

http://de.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=24&l2=164&l3=0&l4=0&model=2912&modelmenu=1

I'll inform any progress  ;)
