Hi,

Thanks for the instructions, those,- together with some others - helped me to finish "my" version inside Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on the Lenovo X200T. Please have a look at the attached picture.

But it seems to me that different "real" hardware seems to need different instructions and settings for the Virtualbox, what is surprising me, because the "emulated" hardware should be allways the same ? ??? I might do something wrong but on another Laptop (JVC 941) I do need other options to install eCs (i.e. have to chose "Modern hardware safe mode" instead of "Virtual PC" in the Preboot menu - and vice versa) but it may be that I just REALLY do something wrong.

Using eCS inside the Box is smooth, but I would prefer to use the "Native" installation I have parallel to Windows 7 Pro 64 -bit, but because of having no LAN/WLAN support this installation is quite useless... :-[ :-\ - and even worses - while using it in the Box I realised that in this environment I do not need eCS anymore... :'( :'(

So - I am still one of those who would prefer NATIVE instead of BOXED, but I am running out of choices...

Hi, I just copy here what I have written at the eCS yahoo group to spread the information:

(If you want to follow the thread there: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/eComStation/message/82388  )
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
sold my three Laptops/Netbooks via ebay and bought the one, that fits all my
needs: Lenovo X200T Tablet (no Multitouch). With 4 GB RAM and 500GB HDD it seems
to be a good choice. I am still waiting for Lenovo to send my ordered XP
recovery CDs to replace Vista with the "usual" mixture of eCS and XP.

What might be interesting - espacially for Ed Durrant :-) - I installed eCS 2.0
RC7 inside Virtualbox in VISTA. Installed the addons. Then I was able to use the
Tablet device (PEN) to work with the eCS inside the virtual machine (for me it
was surprising, I guess experts do expect it because the Pen is just seen as a
mouse) . But even though - thats a nice feature.

Question: As soon as I will get the XP I will try to install eCS. It is clear
for me, that some parts will for sure not work (WLAN,WWAN,Bluetooth,Webcam
a.s.o) - but I want to give it a try. I already downloaded the latest availiable
PEN and Tablet Drivers for OS/2 - eCS and see if there is a way....
Is there anyone out with having experience in using OS/2 or eCS with Tablet PCs?

Any hint welcome!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later this day I will post a video at youtube about it (Virtualbox Tablet)

Cheers

Hi Thomas,

and this is what exactly was my opinion in these two "big discussion" threads about the future of ecomstation I initiated some time ago.

Now you may understand why I felt the way I felt then, even if there has been another "target" that time, but if I think about it - ACPI is one major part of eCS 2.0 developement...  ;)

What did help me to overcome this - it was just TIME , .....    some time to calm down and think about the REAL important things in Life one has (for each and everyone it is something else) :)

So,

Take it easy altes Haus -

you may remember Truck Stop  ;)  (I hope a "german insider" is allowed to be mentioned)

Hi Thomas,

(now I can access the thread - "Wunder gibt es immer wieder"  ;D )

just to give my opinion on this:

I am an end user as well, I do not want to caraterize myself as being some kind of professional. That I am not really satisfied with the eCS development at all can be read in other threads (especially those I sometimes can not access anymore). I just want to say this as a preamble to avoid being missunderstood.

I am using the varies RC and beta Release of eCS for quite a while now. Everytime I have to update ACPI (when there is no new RC - when it is "just" distributed via Betazone) I just download the ACPI Fastupdate wpi, run it - thats it.

As I know that this ACPI release might be unstable I always use a "Non productive" system, so if there is a message like the ones you made pictures of - I simply ignore them.

If I am not satiesfied with the result of the update (for me 3.14 was the last somehow stable one - true - depending on the system one use) I just take the "older" Fast ACPI update wpi and run it again - while clicking the "overwrite" button everytime it is needed.

But then the problems occur to me - and thats why I sometimes gave up to send logfiles:

- most of "MY" systems can not establish any network connection any more (Hardware unsupported)
- last RC7 with ACPI 3.17 totally destroyed the whole disc layout - no chance to even see a log file ....  ;)
- to reach the target I copied the log file on a stick, loaded it in Windows, tried to mail it to Eugene - just to get an error message twice "Return to sender ..- dap bi dubi dab (as Elvis would sing)

Once I wanted to know what these logfiles EXACTLY include in there, just to want to know what kind fo information about me is included there, so I extracted it, but there heve been to many files to read...

just my two cents , or "das war nur mein bescheidener Beitrag hierzu" ;)

Hi Thomas,

thank you very much for your help!   :)

The symptoms I have are ecxaclty those you mentioned.

Unfortunately, if I click on one of the Links you provide this leads "only" to the main forum page. :-[

If I copy one of your links direct into the browser and start from there this brings me to the same main froum page.

May there be something wrong with my account? :-\

On the other hand the same happens to me if I try it without being logged in.  ???

I remember that this problem has been discussed before, but for a while it was O.K while now getting worse.

Thanks again.

BTW: I wanted to reply to one of your post in the "Devcon ACPI" Thread, I was able to view it up to about 10 o clock this morning, but suddenly it was not possible any more.

Gruß

Sigurd

EDIT : Funny, now it works at least for the ACPI Devcon Thread..... Seems to be some kind of User Error  :o

Hi,

I just want to know:

Is there a kind of censorship at os2world.com? The problems to read some threads here rised for me during the last 2 months. It is still not possible for me to access the threads like:

- status update on ecomstation 2.0
- status update on ecomstation 2.0 II

and actual:

- Devcon - Discuss ACPI with the developers...

What makes me worry is that all these threads includes some kind of critics against some parts of the eCS devemopement.

ACPI  3.17 driver is not tested.

holy shit! I can't believe it... did you just say that the RC7 will install an untested ACPI version 3.17?
Let me just summarize a bit:
- People are working their arse off to get that RC out the door...
- Others are bashing themselves over the "quality" we are facing
- Yet others put their *last hope* on a stable ACPI version...

... and now, the RC ships with an UNTESTED ACPI ?? Are you kidding??

[/quote]

Hi Thomas,

because I did not allways want to be a kind fo "bad guy" when it comes to write about the new RCs I did not pick up that point. But you hit exactly the point! I totally agree with you!

Hi Eugene,

as soon as I can find a way I will sent the log files. Thanks.

EDIT: Unfortunately I can not login there nor can access ecomstation.ru.
So I attach them here.

Hi,

as a speaker at warpstock Europe I am able to gain some money there that I invested in RC7.

my feedback:

My netbook, ASUS 1008HA, working with eCS 2 RC6a (despite of having no network :-(   ) very good.

- Tried to "upgrade" the RC6a - total fail, system crashed, even the paralell installed XP can not be started anymore

- formatted RC6a, started with RC7 from scratch
- despite of still no network (as expected, that did not suprise me) installation went through
- First boot: ACPI 3.17 failed after a while , crash, TRAP 0000, same happened several times, downgraded to 3.14 (tried all the switches I ever used)
- Sound: can not change loudness (fine with 6a) , even using older uniauds did not work
- DOS/WIN : both start (window/fullscreen) but can not use mouse or keyborad, after a short time: crash - not usable anymore (worked with 6a)

For "my" netbook this is a step backwards. It is a pitty. I will give it a try in Virtual PC/Virtualbox to see where this will take me.

The result is sad but true for me. I have now more problems than before.

Sigurd

Well, for your feedback to be feedback it would certainly be placed better in the netlabs.org ACPI tracker than here.

Hi Christian,

thanks for letting me know or teaching me the meaning of the word: feedback, so that I will not forget how limited my english is.

I always reported logs in the past to the developers (i.e.: ASUS EEE 701, Medion Akoya 1210E, Lenovo SL300 - by the way: you will find them all at the hardware base of ecomstation.ru as well, as well as in the hardware forum here, on youtube and so on). But here, as I worte:

- No Network working with eComStaition
- WinXP that I might use is destroyed by eCS on that machine as well

So - actual no way to sent. I will try to save them on an USB Stick and transfer it to this Laptop and send it from here - as soon as I can get the LIFE back to the Netbook.....

If you don't like the word feedback for what I have done just call it: Information.

Just to stress that I want to inform, not to cAuse trouble or to disturb peace:

Yes, I would have been very happy to write "Yes, I am the one where the eCS RC7 hits the nail...." (thats why I bought it - this kind of hope :-)   ). But unfortunately it is not like this. And this I wrote not to "critize";  just to say - one will might discover some problems while installing RC7, some serious problems if it leads to an end like for me. And I am happy that I used the "Non critical hardware" that I usually not use for seroius work. I would have lost all my data.

Cheers

For me it would be interesting to get more information about the possibility to install eCS next to Vista (and so - I guess - also next to Windows 7).

My renewed Software Subscription after years finally expired two month ago, and as I do not plan to renewed it once again I am not able to test this with the Silver Release.

Is it possible the same way as with Windows XP - and that easy? As I still plan to use eCS on modern hardware this would be very good.

Do one has to install the OS/2 Bootmanager BEFORE the installation of Vista or is it possible (as I do sometimes with XP in case of preventing the Original Installation on new hardware or because of just having Recovery versions of the OS that would destroy any other installation that has been applied before) - to manipulate the already installed VISTA and install the OS/2 Bootmanager and eCS afterwards?

Well, at least I will try this as soon as the GA of eCS 2.0 will be availiable but does someone made an experience till now?

Thanks in Advance.

« on: 2009.07.12, 23:30:57 »
Hallo Thomas,

vielen Dank!

Also - trotzdem vielen Dank für Deine Mühen!

Sigurd
