Hardware / Re: Trouble with a capital T!!!

Welll....
I might be inclined to make the T into a t--if I can get past the 'Configure Network' screen. I don't think I have a network adapter on my laptop, even though there is a place to plug in the cable from the ethernet router. However, for some reason I am unable to activate the invisible 'Next' button on the "configure Network' screen. I sure hope I can change the resolution to something smaller once I finally get eCS re-installed.

Should I tell the installation that there is No network adapter? The D-link router I have isn't on the 'Add An Adapter' list. Or, should I tell the install that the etherlink router is another brand/configuration?

Hi, All!
Thanks for the replies. Here are my answers:

  1. Installing eCS 1.2R
  2. Alt-F7 doesn't work. The window is already maximized and there is no room at the edges.
  3. Have managed to get to the 'Format Volume' window and started formatting C:.

Will get back to you when I get stuck again(please note the 'When I get stuck', not if...).

Thanks again

Hardware / Tired

I'm getting tired and frustrated trying to get eCS to reinstall on my laptop. Perhaps I should give up and go to windoze. But, no, then I would have to do twice as much work to create a system that's half as stable--if that--and only runs right when it wants to--which is seldom.....

This all started shortly before I posted 'Trouble with a capital T'

For tonight, I give up.

Thanks, David.  What do I do n ow? The laptop boots from the eCS CD, gets to the 'Welcome' screen, tells me to click 'Next' to continue, but the Welcome screen is so big that it doesn't fit on the laptop screen. I can't even see the 'Next' button. If I hit 'Enter' I get install Help, so the highlighted, but unseen button must be 'Help', not 'Next'. Where do I go from here?????

Hardware / Trouble with a capital T!!!

Hi, Again!

I did Alt F2 when I booted my laptop. The only driver that stayed on the bottom of the screen as long as the eCS logo did was OS2ASPI.DMD. The line read 'Installed OS2ASPI.DMD'. Doesn't mean a thing to me.

However, here is where the trouble comes in:

After the eCS logo went off, the boot sequence hung with the following:

The system is stopped.

I have tried rebooting and booting from the install CD (hoping to reinstall eCS and get past this problem).  I tried booting from an archive. Nothing worked. Everything came back to the above information.

I cannot boot the laptop!!! What do I do????  HELP!!!!!

Hi!
Thanks for all your help on my previous questions. Now for a couple more:

   1. When I boot my laptop, the eCS logo is on the screen for what seems like forever--30 seconds+. How do I get it to go away a lot sooner and continue the boot process?

   2. I have a cable modem connected to an ethernet router. The router has 2 ethernet output cables--1 to my desktop and one that connects to my laptop whenever I am using the laptop in the office. When I start the mozilla browser that came with eCS, it shows I am connected to the internet, but it continues to tell me it cannot find Mosilla.org, mozilla.com, etc. It also cannot locate Google or my email provider. I put the new Firefox browser on the laptop and it, too cannot locate anything. How do I get the cable connection to work on my laptop???

Thanks in advance.

Hardware / GPS

I also should have mentioned GPS in my plea for Wifi help. Are there any GPS devices for a laptop that are compatable with OS/2-eCS?

Hardware / D-Link DWA-642
2007.05.17, 21:09:00
Hi!
I decided to go wireless with my laptop, so I bought a D-Link DWA-642. Of course, it only comes with drivers for windoze.
   1. Do I need drivers for eCS 1.2?
   2. If I need drivers, where do I find them?
   3. Are there any install problems I should know about?
   4. Did I get the right adapter?  If not, which one should I trade it in for?

As always, thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks for the reply, melf. I use eCS 1.2R. I'll check the disks i got & see if the Fone Engine is there. Right now, eCS has 'Sharp' brand graphics.

General Discussion / Email Notification
2007.05.15, 18:25:14
Nice upgrade. The only problem I have is that the old site would send me emails when someone replied to my posts. I may be blind--not, but I havent seen any obvious way to get email notification when a person replies to my posts on this upgrade.

Thanks, Melf & Kim.

I should have explained that my laptop is 5 years old and only has 800 x 600 as the best resolution. Or should I use 640 x 480, which is my only other choice?

Melf, where do I find that Innotek font engine? Do you think it will work with my limited resolution choice?

Hardware / Re: ar5os2.exe & pe.exe
2007.05.15, 17:56:48
Hi, Robert!
Thanks for the bad news(lol). Sounds like it's not even worth trying, since Quickbooks is the only windoze app I wanted to run. Guess I'll just have to keep my XP system and hope that microslop keeps supporting it(XP).

Thanks again for your reply.

Hardware / ar5os2.exe & pe.exe
2007.05.14, 22:33:08
Hi!
I want to try running--or at least installing--Quickbooks on my eCS laptop, but am unable to locate the current Odin pe.exe or ar5os2.exe. If someone could give me a link to either file I would be grateful.

Thank you

Hi!
I don't know where this post really belongs, so I put it here. I just installed eCS on my laptop and love it. However, I'm wondering if there are better video drivers out there. My one complaint about eCS is that the images and letters on the screen aren't as sharp as they were under Warp 4. Is there a way to make the images crisper and sharper?

Also, I like eCS on my laptop, so am planning to install it on my desktop OS/2 system. Currently, the only OS on my desktop is Warp 4. Can I install eCS and then windoze XP as a second OS or do I need to install XP first? On the other side of that, I also have an XP desktop. Can I install eCS on the XP desktop as a 2nd OS?  How do I do either install?

Thanks in advance for your help.
