As far as VIOTBL.DCP is concerned, send me a mail at gerzhinATemailDOTcz. It does not matter what you write into it, I will use the email address and send you the file. I cannot attach the file to a private message and I am not sure whether I can post it here. Installation: VIOTBL.DCP is in \OS2 . Rename it (so that you can return if it does not solve your problem) and copy the W4 viotbl to the directory. You can do it while running eCS. Restart.
As to dosbox, my experience is that dosbox is s l o w . . . ... Moreover, with ATI cards, you can experience bad colors.

Anyway, I haven't seen problems with a DOS session with ATI cards. Maybe, it's not a VIOTBL problem.

How doesn't it work exactly? Do you get a window, a cursor in it - and it hangs? Has the problem arisen after some upgrade, after a new installation of eCS or suddenly?

One kind of a problem "DOS fullscreen works, DOS window crashes" known to me is caused by VIOTBL.DCP . For some unknown reason, the VIOTBL.DCP in eCS is incompatible with certain video cards (GeForce, for example). The problem with VIOTBL.DCP causes a page fault (int 0Eh) and a chernobyl screen "consult your sales representative" on any attempt to run a DOS window session. Fullscreen DOS works. You need a VIOTBL.DCP from the original W4. Replace, restart eCS, try DOS window again - it should work if it was this problem.

OpenOffice Write can import .SVG, at least in Debian. The picture is imported correctly and it can be scaled in OpenOffice Write. Maybe in OS/2, too.

Do not install boot manager in a virtual machine. Do not make more than one partition on a virtual disk. The boot manager is useless (you can have more VHDs and boot which one you want), moreover, OS/2 boot manager partition is 0x0A - neither FAT nor HPFS nor something otherwise common. I do not have VirtualBox (my archaic comp does not have VT-X) but the type 0x0A partition can be also a part of your problems.

Try only one partition on a VHD. Create a 1 GB VHD. For W4, this should be more than enough. If you succeed with this VHD, create another VHD for your data and apps and add it to your virtual machine.

(1) The new dani drivers intended for eCS are v. 185 and above plus v. 040 and above for ATAPI drives. All lower versions sould be okay for W4.
(2) "FDISK only seems to allow me FAT". FDISK only creates a partition, it does not format it. The partition needs to be formatted after FDISK but before installing the operating system. IIRC, after FDISK, you should be prompted for reboot and and after reboot, you should format. Here you can select whether you want FAT or HPFS. Select HPFS.

Have you seen a message "the system will be rebooted in xxx seconds" or so after leaving FDISK?
Have you saved the created partitions (F3) after FDISKing?
Have you made your new partition for W4 bootable and startable?

One of the problems might be the v. 187 "dani" driver. Versions 185 and 187 are intended for eCS, Warp is too old for them. Try v. 170 with v. 038 ATAPI driver. They should work with OS/2 W4. Also, make sure that the CONFIG.SYS on your diskette contains SET COPYFROMFLOPPY = 1.

EPM is enough good  :)  I have completely reprogrammed EPM long ago and it has become the best line oriented editor I've ever seen :) Naturally, it has syntax highlighting for all code types I am producing. You can add additional ones. The only problem with EPM is that it is rather archaic - no "split view", only 16 colors, no hinting, no online spell checker and so on. If you want my version of EPM, send me an email at gerzhinATemailDOTcz and I will send you the E-files for investigation.

Use the dialog editor from the toolkit (dlgedit.exe). The open project cannot contain "closed" code. You will also find out, that you haven't got basic help files (CP, PM, etc.), raster font editor and ipfc. They are also in the toolkit.

Install the toolkit at any rate.

Both loaddskf and savedskf are on Hobbes as well. IIRC, CDBoot is also there. Naturally, CDBoot is an utility for creating a bootable ISO from existing data, not the data itself.

I am using Panorama plus the widescreen activator with my ATI Mobility Radeon X700. Well, Panorama is a VBE, no acceleration, but (with a 16 MB shadow buffer) it is enough fast so that I can move big windows along the screen without jerking. Window scrolling is also good. I am using 1920x1200x32.

Panorama is much faster than GENGRADD or SNAP in VBE mode on my comp. SNAP knows my video card but it does not support it in notebooks.

I have tried the "full install" but the result was the same as with the "only hp-mkuri". The same logfile, no output on the screen. syslogd starts and creates a log file (empty file). While running hp-mkuri, no messages (the file is still empty after quitting syslogd). As far as the rewriter is concerned, "%ETC%" is "/etc" on my machine. I tried to copy hp\plip.conf (including the directory) into c:\etc (c: is the boot drive)  and d:\etc (hp-mkuri is on d: ). No changes.

No results on the screen, only the logfile. Both with -o and with -b 1 -d 4. The logfiles are the same in both cases. As far as syslogd is concerned, my eCS isn't on the network - I was unable to make my network card work (Marwell Semiconductors, genmac should know it but not on my Vaio most likely). I don't know how to use syslogd without a network.

HP LJ1200 connected to USB here:

LIBUSB: unable to query number of USB devices - rc= 1b58

Well, Sony Vaio: Everything connected to USB that should work also works (printer, all three mouses, CD drive, USB sticks) but usbres complains "no USB driver found". usbcfg works, 6 UHCI, 2 EHCI, 1 mass storage, 1 printer. The printer is connected to LPT1 redirected to USB and it was on line while testing. Also, I made sure that it really works by printing some nonsense. RC6a.

It's a strange IDE. It says "maximum LBA capacity = 100 GB", which is nonsense. Max. LBA capacity is 8 GB because the 24-bit address field in int 13h cannot address more than 8 GB with 512-bytes blocks. The HD seems to be a strange "special" understood by winblows but not fully understood by eCS. You can start installing eCS but you get crash after the first restart. Weird.

If you have some partitions on the HD, try to start from the CD and check what you can check from the CD. Can you mount the HD? If you can lose data on the HD, can you format partitions? Can you run DumpIDE and similar things (I don't know what all is available from the CD). If there are some data left on the HD, can you list directory contents? What is the sector size on your HD? How many sectors are on the HD? If you have a bootable DFSee CD (you can download a demo for free, it is a fully functional DFSee limited in time), what can DFSee say about your HD?
