Applications / RPM/YUM !
2011.01.02, 17:45:00
I tried to install RPM/YUM used by some developer.

1/ Why to use install tool which has more than 50MiB and requires billable internet connection ?
(not all PCs have internet connections - I only have one with internet and the second has none for a safe system.)
2/ This high disk space requirement is very bad on SSD MLC disk which needs lot a free space to preserve its life length (max of 10000 write per cells)
3/ After install of this tool, I never got it working ! nor Could I get program updates following all comments

Any program packaged with RPM/YUM should have a WPI corresponding build because RPM/YUM doesn't work on every system while WPI does and any update should be standalone installable.

What to do then ?
May be to stop use eCS if programs using this packaging are going to be generalized.

Hi everybody,
I just saw a "bug" at first install time (drrexx dialog opens for id3v2_exe error).
For those having got this error, ignore the message and proceed to FFMPEGCA configuration and update id3v2 path.
Then restart ffmpegca and it is ok

I updated v0.9.7 on my site to correct this as well as an user video profile (create/update) issue.

For those interested to test v0.9.8 preview which includes some corrections and video 2 pass enable option + mkv and ts  support and added default profile, please send me an email at address given under ffmpegca help
Cheers

Hi,

I made available test build of V 0.9.6 and waiting your comments...
0.9.6 - Added E-t (End time) when creating and playing video chapter
     - Corrected an ID3tag/Oggtag issue not correctly added into metadatas/id3tags
     - Now WPS classes for OGG, WAV and FLAC are updated to show IDtags when openening file "properties"
     - Replaced "FFMPEGCA for video analysis.pdf" file

Some planned functions have been delaied to next build

V0.9.4 ( changelog - http://remydodin.levillage.org/ffmpegchg.html )

Update available into v0.9.4k against v0.9.4i
    * Ogg uses correct bitrate now  (added a parameter to force correct result)

known issue:
    * FFMPEG didn't add metadatas into Ogg or flac  (e.g. title, author ... )
(this should be corrected into level >= R25034 according ffmpeg bug tracker)
I'm waiting on new ffmpeg port to check this part. (Paul's aware of this)

Programming / OS/2 command processor ?
2010.06.22, 05:09:16
Hi team,

I have a problem and didn't find how to bypass it using a rexx batch file.
I can issue any ffmpeg command from a batch (cmd) file but one kind of command always fail !

Here is the sample:

/* */
'ffmpeg -f image2 -i "e:\ce2mp3\img%04d.gif" -sameq -f mpeg2video file.mpg'
return

Very easy isn't it except that the os/2 cmd processor interprets the %0 using the bach program name which is here test.cmd
Following error appears then !

e:\ce2mp3\imgtest4d.gif: No such file or directory

How to prevent this issue and have ffmpeg looking for numbered img0001.gif.. img0002.gif etc... ?
Using the cmd as rexx or not rexx gives the same result.

I need this command been issued from a batch file !

The same command issued from an OS/2 prompt command work well
[E:\ffmpeg-r23406]ffmpeg -f image2 -i "e:\ce2mp3\img%04d.gif" -sameq -f mpeg2vid
eo file.mpg

Internet / Firefox 3.5.1 ?
2009.07.31, 11:16:53
Hi!
I tried previous beta build the and I migrated now to 3.5.1 (with multimedia support).
Now, each time a web page has flash elements, firefox stops and I didn't get any information into popup log. !
while other programs do. No problem under firefox 2.x but 3.5 has a much better font rendering.
What's wrong ? did you experience the same issue ?
Thanks

Hi !

Mercury 1.9.x works great (only minor retrictions found) with java1.4.2 !
Install Mercury 1.9 and replace dMSN.jar by the new 1.95 one and you'll have Mercury 1.9.5

Here is the link to mercury 1.9 (java1.4.2 compatible) :
http://www.ecsware.org/home?func=startdown&id=85
Download it and copy new dMSN.jar : http://files.mercury.im/1.9.5/dMSN.jar
under produit lib dir replacing older build. Start Mercury and enjoy how it work nice ;)

To do:
Update run.cmd properties to your environment:
e.g.
Path and file name
G:\PROGRAMS\Mercury19\run.cmd
Parameters
G:\programs\java142
Working dir
G:\PROGRAMS\Mercury19
Add mercury ICO to the run.cmd if needed !

Bye/2

Internet / SSD test
2009.06.17, 01:50:01
I just received a new G.SKILL FALCON 128GB SSD
I used my existing mainboard (A8N-SLI prenium + AMD 4400+) to test this drive as boot drive and removed all other disk from the system to only have the SSD.
I start to install eCS V2.0 RC6a on it,
* first issue was the default SNAP is not conpatible when using an X850 ATI card with a 16/10 wide screen. I went back to VGA mode.
* Second issue; The disk was found and I defined a startable partition for the intallation but this one was never seen under the install tool and [next] button not validated (same result after a few test). I was then thinking to install eCS under a partition on a 7200rpm hd disk and I installed a second disk. At power on, Oh miraculus ! the SSD partition was made available for ecs installation ! (a second sata disk must be installed to validate entry using ssd ! strange)
.
installation part 1 + part 2 took about 6mns but at reboot, system goes into a trap ! (Hum, it looks like SMP enabling + ACPI gives trouble like I had under eCS V2 beta3). Oh, I forgot to tell you, during the boot, their was no noise and whouah ! the boot sequence was very very fast...
I put back my config and next test will be with special ACPI parameters I used with ecs 1.2 but I don't know if these parameters are always valid. Do you know it ?
PSD=ACPI.PSD /NOD /SMP /DV:0X57 /TMR
Thanks

Hardware / HP photosmart C53xx
2009.04.10, 13:15:51
Hi !
I have a HP photosmart C5390 (# C5380) which is a 2 in one device (scan and print).
I didn't test the cups option but I tried to use it with current existing drivers.
I did several test and used my previous driver (HP Descjet C980Cxi) but it didn't work ok.
I tested than more drivers and finally found having to use an older one. The best which allow correct printing :
OMNI.HP DeskJet 870C
Well, I think it is well to know it. For the scanner part, I have some USB issue and could not see the USB readed nor the scanner. I'll do more test but it is less important due I scan directly on a compactFlash card and read it from my
IDE card reader.

For those buying a new HP photosmart printer, I would suggest them to do a try of this driver.
