Setup & Installation / Re: Multi boot eCS and W7
« on: 2011.12.10, 23:32:33 »
Hi Raiko,

The only thing that I can see that might be a problem is getting BM to boot first without messing up the win7 install.  You might have to use the win7 boot manager to boot BM to boot eCS.

The other thing, make sure you have the win7 DVD or recovery DVD available before you start anything.  I'm currently trying to recover a win7 install for a friend who didn't have the win7 media and didn't make the recovery media before the hard disk did 'strange' things.

Hi Raiko,

You should get the resolution you are looking for from an ATI card.  I have a Hanns-g HH281 28 inch LCD @ 1920 x 1200 running here on an ATI card.  All I did was to select the correct resolution in the SNAP dropdown and it was up and running.

Hi Greggory,

Have you had a look at Lars Erdmann's installer script on hobbes?  It might help you d what you want.

A few questions.

What VM are you using?

Why are you using net use?  Most VMs allow shared folders.

My experience is the other way round - XP guest on OS/2 host - and all I do is share the folder in the settings and it appears in explorer when XP has started.

Thanks everyone, I'll see about putting a full report on dev.ports.os2.

To answer your questions Pete.  Nothing in popuplog and no TRP files in the firefox dir or sub dirs, in fact it's the fastest closing window I've seen - I'd almost say it pops like a soap bubble.

I've tried the new beta and as just a browser it appears to work well, BUT if I try anything in the 'file' dropdown it just closes - no warning, therefore no printing of any sort, not even 'save page as'.  Yes I have followed the read me on printing.

Another thing, where is the 'view' > 'page source' now?

Hi Dennis,

You will need to use a bootable CD that will allow you to to see your eCS.OS/2 boot partition.  Then, as Martin says, check the config.sys to see exactly what the 'set runworkplace' has after the =.  If it is <drive>\os2\pmshell.exe you then need to see if pmshell.exe is in fact in <drive>\os2.  If it is then I think you should run chkdsk /f3 on the boot drive just to see that there is nothing corrupting pmshell.exe, or you can rename it to pmshell.exe.bak and copy a known good version from your backup.

The setup has been running for four years with no issues but the 3rd drive falling out of RAID (defuncting itself) after short use.
That third drive problem tends to point to the RAID bios chip having a problem - usually caused by temperature.  A defective chip could also have caused the problem you are seeing.

Have you tried using DFSee to rewrite the LVM information of the partitions that have the problem?

Out of curiosity, how were you running RAID 1E on only 3 drives, our NAS protests until fixed if we try that.  OK I know you are running it in a server but surely there should be some warning every so often.

Hi Robert,

What level of RAID is it?

If it's RAID 1, have you tried pulling one drive and replacing it with a blank drive and letting the RAID be rebuilt?

I had a similar problem with one of our NAS - one of the drives developed a fault, fortunately the NAS indicated the problem drive and when I replaced it we were able to rebuild the RAID array which cleared up the access to the volumes.

Hi Todd,

Just a thought but you could use a simple 2 port KVM switch which should cover the need to have physical devices plugged in.

Article Discussions / Re: Qt version 4.7.3
« on: 2011.10.13, 12:12:18 »
Hi rudi,

Thanks for that explanation, it should be in the readme.

Our setup puts the Qt4 dir in OS/2\apps and we have the qt.conf in OS/2\apps\qt4.  The directory structure is as you list.

If I am understanding correctly what you have written then, in fact, there is no real reason to have the Qt4 dir listed in Path and Libpath at all.

No comment on the RPM/YUM, we had that in another thread.

Thanks everyone.

The fact Pete said he could see JPG listed started me looking at the differences between the old and new Qt4.

The old didn't have the path in Path and Libpath but had it listed in qtsys.conf in MPTN\etc.
The new has the path listed in Path and Libpath and there was nothing but two dots for the path in the qt.conf in the qt4 dir.

As an experiment I removed one of the dots in path line of qt.conf and now SIR 2.1.1 has started to work again.

I don't know enough about how linux likes the conf files or even what should be in them - I suppose I'll have to try and find out ;)

Thanks for the offer Tellie but I do have one question.  Do you think it would be possible for someone whose last programming was in assembler some 30 odd years ago to port the latest version of Sigil -0.4.3 to OS/2 and if so what would I need?

As I said rudi it was an extra dot in the path statement in the conf file for the new Qt4 version, a conf file I took as being correct but it wasn't for our situation.

So again thanks to all - I can have some sleep tonight and not have any grumbles from anyone in the morning about 'having to do things the hard way'.

I think I've found another problem with this version of Qt4.

We use SIR 2.1.1 for image resizing - at least we did until the upgrade of Qt4.  The output from the cameras is JPG which SIR handled very well in the past - now that format doesn't even appear in the conversion dropdown.

To check the problem I restored the older version of Qt4 from backup to one workstation and the JPG option appeared and I could resize the JPGs as before.

Now I must seriously think about downgrading all the workstations to allow us to continue working, that is unless there is a way for this latest Qt4 to be made to work with standard JPEG graphics files.

Does anyone know of a work round to do this?

Hi Pete,

I don't think java 1.3 has anything to do with it - it just happened to be on the image I used when I set up the new computer.

Just checked on another computer that has only openjdk6 and it works from the program object and I can open files.

The only difference with my setups is that odin is in the root directory of drive E: although I wouldn't think that would make any difference.

I first installed odin there years ago before it came as a warpin package and have told warpin to use the same directory.

The only other thing I can think of is that there may be some older odin DLLs hiding out on your system - just as I had some older qt4 DLLs on mine, but that is just clutching at straws.
