I created an incident, per instructions, on the eCS bug tracker. Ctrl-Numlock-Numlock (or Ctrl-F10-F10) doesn't do anything, so a dump to diskette is not possible. I took a photo of the trap screen, and submitted that.

Thanks Doug,

this is appreciated.

if you look at svn.netlabs.org/java you see all the progress this project is doing.

Make that http://svn.netlabs.org/java so people can directly click the link ;)

I created a sourceforge project for GL/2. I have to work on the homepage & upload the source code for OPENGL.dll(pgl). I sent an email to netlabs to ask about hosting my project there, but I didn't get a response & got tired of waiting, so sourceforge it is. I'm going with svn for the code repo.

Hi Dee,

that is unfortunate. It would be preferable to keep 'everything' at Netlabs SVN but I understand your urge to move forward.
Would you mind posting the SourceForge URL here?

Thanks,

Joachim

Still, no access to the SVN.

The SVN NIC repository will be restructured and access will be public soon.

Pete,

Sorry, I was not clear. I know that eCS is not in charge of Firefox port but I was just wondering if anyone heard of Firefox 4.0 for eCS, I know a lot of great work has been done on version 3. Just looking at the future.

From: http://www.os2news.com/voice/7520.html

New beta versions of Firefox & Seamonkey with printing support are now
available.  These betas are part of a project sponsored by Mensys to
provide full printing support in the Mozilla apps.

In Phase I, printing via CUPS or directly to many Postscript-enabled
printers is supported.  Printing using native drivers such as OMNI,
LASERJET, etc. is not supported yet but will be in Phase II.

Firefox v4.0b7pre is available from:
     ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/firefox-20100919.zip
  or
    http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/firefox-20100919.zip
Seamonkey v2.1b1pre is available from:
     ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/seamonkey-20100919.zip
  or
    http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/seamonkey-20100919.zip

These betas are based on newer versions of the Mozilla code and should
be more stable than the previous releases.  Like the previous versions,
they use Exceptq v7 to generate debugging reports should the app crash.
Printing support is largely unchanged.

I just ran the Peacekeeper browser benchmark (http://service.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/index.action)
and get a score of 1940 which is more than double the performance I had with 3.5.3 (around 900).

Joachim

4. That page actually shouldn't be there any more. Feel free to contact VOICE about it. The archive of past Newsletters is accessible via the standard Newsletter page at http://www.os2voice.org/newsletters.html.

Good point - updated the homepage to use that link instead of the incorrect (old) one now. Thanks!

Edit 2: I re-checked QuteCom but it seems to be dead....no update in 12 month. If VoIP (SIP) should be a target we have to look again for a working project, that can be ported. This still excludes Skype.

This is not entirely true - if you check the Trac site: http://trac.qutecom.org/timeline you can see recent activity on QuteCom.

But I agree that there are probably other (better?) options to get VOIP support on eCS.

I know in the W3 days you could activate it to save info for a rescue of some functionality. Is there any harm in deleting all the contents except the desktop itself?

In eComStation 2.0 the archiving feature has been vastly improved over previous versions. In cooperation with the community a list of critical files has been selected that are stored there. So, while previous releases did not have much useful content, it is actually usable now.

Check out this link:

http://www.ecomstation.it/ecsoft2/prog.php?progid=1608&name=Arora&sys=os2+ecomstation

A test version as far as I understand, but already well working, relly fast rendering. Hits FF364 measured on Peacekeaper, http://service.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/index.action

FF364: 1100
Arora: 1500

For me the performance difference is even bigger:

FF353: 890 points
Arora: 1712 points

That's an impressive difference. Unfortunately it crashes rather quickly on certain javascript (so it seems) but it is nice to see a good rendering performance!

Thanks to the porter indeed!

Joachim

PS: the fact that the Arora code is hosted by google doesn't make it a google project.
From http://webkit.org: WebKit is an open source web browser engine. WebKit is also the name of the Mac OS X system framework version of the engine that's used by Safari, Dashboard, Mail, and many other OS X applications.

Utilities / Re: Write YOUR reg to GA-iso

Actually we have a tool ready that does exactly the same, which is the reason for the dummy regkey in the root of the CD in the first place. We'll publish it soon, however our tool is textmode only.

So, yes, CREXX as of at least WSeB, does handle decimal numbers in SysSleep - to at least 6 digits.

Wow... this is what I call a useful hint, *never* knew this was possible. (It's not in the docs nor in REXX Tips & Tricks as far as I can tell)

Indeed it works just fine, thanks!

Wait a minute. I thought the GA of OpenOffice would be extended to me because the Beta was in development while I had SS and OpenOffice subscriptions.

I have no downloads now other than 1.2MR and no OpenOffice. I can't even get access to the older versions. What is this?

This is unfortunately correct. Currently, if the subscription expires, so does the access to older downloads. We're redesigning the download system, but right now there is no access. The fact that your subscription was active during the beta doesn't grant you the right to the GA version... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

The Warpin Installer should check where PROGRAMS is set - I was not impressed to find the software wanted to install to the Non-Existent [BootDrive]:\PROGRAMS location. Checking the Warpin Script used for the installation confirms that this package expects to find PROGRAMS on the BootDrive: TARGET="?:\PROGRAMS\FLASH10"

The package was refreshed today, if you (re)download it will now respect the PROGRAMS environment variable.
It also fixes the problem of the incorrect target directory, referencing the browser executable.

Result: Browser started and hung immediately, the mouse pointer disappeared and keyboard input was blocked. My only recourse was to press the system box Reset Button.

This is almost certainly the LIBPATHSTRICT problem. Try to start the browser directly, without the 'L' option from Rich Walsh.
This is a known restriction which will be lifted in a future release.

We're already in touch with them, don't worry.

OTOH: It would probably be best to run [installcd]:\ECS\INSTALL\MPTS.CMD as that should handle eCS specific changes.

No idea where you got that idea from, this will not work in any way.

This:
Quote
You could try Local System -> Install/Remove -> Selective Install for Networking and have the install CD ready in the cd/dvd drive.

Is the way to do it, and uses the eCS specific changes.
