Hardware / Looking for a printer
« on: 2009.04.03, 10:54:50 »
I must buy a new printer. It must be able to print from OS/2 over a LAN (it will be set up on a Windows 2000 PC). What make and model would you recommend? Are the drivers easily obtained?

Networking / Installing TCP/IP in Warp 3
« on: 2009.03.31, 13:36:33 »
I have used the 3COM setup program to install my 3C509 card in my OS/2 Warp system. I would like to install TCP/IP so I may get file & print sharing to my Windows PCs, and also eventually access the Internet using Firefox via a proxy. The first question is where do I obtain a TCP/IP installation program for Warp 3 Connect? Can I share folders over my Windows Workgroup?

Setup & Installation / Newly cloned hard drive doesn't boot
« on: 2009.03.30, 23:29:52 »
This evening I cloned my OS/2 Warp 3.0 hard drive using EASEUS DiskCopy 2.3, however the clone does not boot. The white "OS/2" block never appears. I have used a Windows 95 Startup disc to verify (using fdisk) that the primary partition is set as active. Using the DOS prompt on the Win95 floppy, I have done a quick DIR /p of the clone and I see no obvious errors. EASEUS DiskCopy is supposed to make the clone of a bootable hard drive bootable. Can anyone suggest what may have gone wrong? I have removed the original drive so there cannot be a boot conflict. Also I have booted successfully to the original OS/2 drive using the same jumper settings and same IDE and power connectors.

I migrated my OS/2 Warp installation from the Elonex P166 to the Celeron 400 this evening, but the new PC system seems to have thrown the installation a bit. First I tried it with the Matrox G400 video card already present in the Celeron 400 PC, but when I booted it my monitor said "VGA mode not support". I then moved the Trident 9440 PCI graphics card (which had the drivers installed in OS/2) from the Elonex to the Celeron. I booted the system up and got nothing except a nice bright turquoise screen. No icons or mouse arrow. Is there a safe mode or VGA mode I can boot into? If so, I might be able to try the Matrox again.

Setup & Installation / My Warp 3 PC, under development
« on: 2009.02.19, 20:48:23 »
Some time ago I installed Warp 3 on an old Elonex Pentium 166MHz PC, together with Windows 3.11fw plus some old OS/2 office apps I was lucky enough to find on ebay. I only did all this as an experiment, but I like the system and I would like to develop it much further. I am hoping to migrate the installation onto a vacant Celeron 700 system in the next two weeks. There have been problems however. My installation refuses to recognise a second hard drive or a CD ROM drive. Regardless of whether or not there is a CD in the drive, OS/2 does not see the drive. The same effect occurred when I installed a second hard drive in the system, although that was so long ago I cannot remember how the extra drive was formatted. OS/2 would not see the second hard drive.

I intend to keep working on this system over the next few weeks and hopefully develop it into a practical, working PC. I intend to upgrade the video card/driver, install a PCI network card with TCP/IP, and install some worthwhile software so I can actually use the PC, particularly with access to my hard-wired LAN and maybe even the Internet. To this end, I would like to have Odin or a good Win32 interface. I went onto the Netlabs Odin site and looked up Odin, but the most recent build I could find was early 2005. Are there newer builds available? Where can I find one and which is the most stable?
