Networking / Help with XP connecting to ECS 1.2R Share
« on: 2009.03.20, 20:50:38 »
Hi,

I am having a problem connecting my Win XP PC to a shared printer that is on my ECS 1.2R PC. My ECS PC can see and communicate with the shares on the XP System. When I run Net Use on the XP system I get an OK for the ECS shared printer:

OK LPT2 \\system01\laserjet

When I open "View Network Computers" System01 (the ECS PC) does not show up.

I have Norton Internet Security 2009 installed on the XP PC and when I open Internet settings and Trust controls it shows System01 as a shared devise on my network "IBMPEERS".

Since XP Net Use shows the connection to the printer OK. I tried to do a command line access to the printer:

Type (Path\File Name.txt) > LPT2.

I got this error: Network access is denied.

I am logged in using the same name an password on both PC's.

I know that XP is a Microsoft product so it defies all logic but can anybody help me get this connection working.

I have NetBios, and NetBios over TCP/IP installed on both machines and at one time with ECS 1.0 the connection worked. I now have SP3 plus updates on the XP PC.

Also, I can ping the ECS PC from the XP PC

Thanks.

Jim
