General Discussion / Re: eCS 2.04 RC4

I have these entries in my protocol.ini under [tcpbeui_nif]:

NODETYPE = "H-Node"
NBNSADDR = "192.168.0.142"
NBNSBACKADDR = "192.168.0.115"

where the first adress is to my w2k-computer, which serves as a printer server - and is always on. The other backupadress is to another XP-computer in the network. I got the advice from a betterknowing friend. I don't know if it is correct but so far it still works and let me access my home network at any time (which is very unusual).

I also looked around the net and found people with such problems on MAC in a windows network. The advice was about the same as you got.

In the same vein, for some reason I can not see any computers with the File and Print resource browser again. Its only showing 3 entries now, and If I refresh, it will show no more. However, if I right click on one of the computers listed and go to Access Another and check the drop-down, I will sometimes find that a computer that isnt shown will be listed there. Also, If I add a computer manually using this process (like my roommate's share) it will show in the file & print resource browser and work fine. I have deleted all the shown entries using SHIFT+DEL and then refreshed to (to my understanding) have all the entries rebuilt, but its now only showing these 3 entries, and no longer the 30some-40some that it used to (detecting all but uPnP shares). Any hints for me? I have already run checkini many times as I read somewhere on the newsgroup that this may affect whats shown there, but so far, no love.

Edit: I have done a search, and I saw a thread here from last year in which Melf had a similar issue. Was this ever resolved? I am not sure what has changed and why it no longer SHOWS me them, though it clearly can access them through other methods.

Hi, Brett!
I saw your bugreport at http://bugs.ecomstation.nl/view.php?id=1887 about this "File and print resource browser" issue. You got the tip to set driver parameters B-node to H-node instead, and then you also had to add "Netbios name server adress". Did you get any clue on what adress you should put into that?

I'm interested cause I tried the "H-node" thing on my computer too and I put the adress to my printer server(win2k), that is always on, in the "netbios name server adress" place. Well, I should wait to shout my happiness out, but it really seems to work. My login-problems seems to have disappeared (till I tell the opposite again...). So how have things gone for you?

Also, I registered this application, and a friend of mine also registered. The price is not big and I believe the author would care more for OS/2 version if there are more registered OS/2 users. Besides, the registration is valid for all systems (Win, OS/2, Linux, Mac...) and this is very nice.

Also I am a registered user and I think that quite a few OS/2 users are. I think it's Pavel's way to handle his costumers - disregarding he's alone or not - that have made people to just stop showing interest. And of course lack of progress on our platform and degradation from being one of all builds to being "highly experimental" ones. The interest has been there, but has in much disappeared.

Anyway its good to hear that you made some success on your own and with the new SDL release.

Dennis, to clear things up: Could you please give us the model of your laptop, all numbers that you find as "Acer Aspire 1355 XC". (I've looked for this info in the thread but haven't found any) Search for that model on google and you have a pretty fair chance to see what type of optical device it has.

I sent a mail to Kim to hear if it could be uploaded on OS2world.

Consider using cdrecord/2-audiocdcreator to burn you dvd:s. In that case you also need dvddao(version 1.0 works with ACDCr, latest versions not, those in between I have not tested). It (dvddao) clearly states in the readme that it correctly writes DVD:s over two GB. I haven't tried that big sizes as I have had no need yet. (Sometimes you get warnings, with ACDCr that it can't estimate free space, but if you know it'll work: just overrule)

I guess you can also use dvddao at commandline basis if your in a hurry and don't want to install new stuff.

Well, you always have "Selective install for networking". It didn't work in RC2 and RC3 but I think it is repared in RC4, but not shure though. I guess there are easier ways.

Thanks BWG. The video was cool to see! When it comes to download I've found several sites that have B13 on there lists, but it is always this issue:

"This game is under protection of ESA (entertainment software association).
You can find more info about the ESA and their work at www.theesa.com.
A list of all companies that have their copyrights protected by the ESA can be found here.
Please contact the publisher of this game directly to find out how to purchase or download it."

I could contact them, but haven't yet.

Would be really fun to try those games. I'm not a gamer but I once had the DOS game Bureau 13 (still have diskettes but one is defect) and liked it  quite a lot. For a year ago I wrote some site connected to the Hopkins FBI to see if there were any possibility to buy it, but they didn't answer (well didn't really expect it either).

Doubt that would be useful to a photographer however, I need to be able to do accurate color profiles and such which really requires Photoshop (pixel had support for them as well).

How about GIMP under hoblink x11? Does it fullfill your demands?

I don't exactly know which thread you mean. When I was at university about 2 years ago I tried to connect to workgroups there. Succeeded once and never more, gave it up. Here at my home I have had and still have problems to log in. Some periods it just doesn't work and I have not found any solution to that. That refers to the default lan requester.

On the other hand using samba in the EVFS form solves problem nr 2 for me, this always works. Problem is one can't access printers yet. Problem nr 1 I haven't had the oportunity to try, but I guess that will work too.

Just a reminder about iso:s. Tonigy presents data CD:s as iso-files directly. I guess that would work , so you don't have to make them.

Sorry to say but you shouldn't be that happy. This version you downloaded was made about two years ago. It's called beta 6 or something, but in my opinion it is for now a very buggy, not usuable alfa software. (You can see that for youself whne you tried a bit more).

 I had my hopes two years ago also, but have given up. The eCS port is now considered "highly experimental" and not prioritized. The "core" platforms are Linux, MAcOSX and windows and just read the forum and you can see that people are really frustrated, and some are trying to be hopeful.( I will add also that this forum is the second one. The first one got full of frustrations and was replaced.) The beta 8 of those "core" platforms have been "on its way" for a long long time. A qualified guess is that you'll never see a functional version 1 for eCS. Main problems is bad communication, no timeplans held, people are waiting and waiting and waiting often for nothing....

Sorry to dissappoint you cause Pixel really seems to have potential.

Thank for your answer Robert. Even if I don't understand everything so at least I'm back to earth again ,reminded of that nothing is one way or the other or black and white.
