It's working!! It's working!! It's working!!!!! Woohooooooooooooo!!

My dream has come true!!! It's really working on VPC2004!! I am so excited now!! :) :) :) I selected Win2000, didn't try with OS/2 and it is working.

I got VPC2004 from here: http://www.oldapps.com/virtual_pc.php

Edit: I got so excited I forgot to say thank you especially Andi and Saijin_Naib!

Who would have thought I am supposed to be using an old version of VPC! I love the way eCS looks, looking forward to 2.0 hoping I will be able to try it on my new hardware!

I had issues with VirtualPC 2007 as well. What I did was run an app that would take a lot of the CPU and it would make the VM run faster (don't ask me how).

I use VirtualBox now.

Hmm, did you manage to run it in VBox? If yes, may I know what settings did you use?

May be I should try 2004 edition then. Win 7 is trying as I type this but no luck....

Hey thanks for that. This new laptop came with (unfortunately) Vista (also Home Premium) but Home Premium isn't supported by Virtual PC 2007 but I installed it anyway (because it let me). Only upgraded versions of Windows are supported and Windows XP Professional is one of these. So I ran VP2007 on Home Premium. I created a Virtual Disk 2000MB+ and 712 RAM. For OS type I selected OS/2. I pressed the magic button and off I went. I selected the demo ISO and the boot started. Then it showed a nice blinking cursor and it kept on blinking for like 15 minutes when my entire system slowed down. I could not even exit the virtual machine so I had to force reboot. I tried again, selecting the IBM driver this time for IDE but same story....

Now, I am installing 7 RC1 and on top of that I will install the Virtual PC that supports XP mode. Since this is an Ultimate build, VPC should not give me any problems. It is almost done installing, I will let you know how I go...

I give up......can't get it to work...I tried changing the DANI section to others such as IBM etc etc on Page 3 but nothing. I am having way too much trouble to get this thing going :(

I am not aware how the ISO is built and constructed but I have UltraISO installed and if there is something that I need to change within the ISO than I can do it and try again but I don't know what to change

I believe this is an issue with the version of DANIs that comes with that CD, or perhaps a bad setup string is put on the DANIs driver. Try to read the docs and set the string correct, or slipstream a new, custom Demo CD with the latest DANIs to replace the old version it ships with.

Thanks for that Saijin_Naib, I selected an IBM IDE driver from the setup menu which is one of the steps suggested to try and I will have to try the rest of them too.

I sugest you to try ecomstation 1.2 demo cd use the VirtualPC, you can see ecs 1.2 and you don't go crazy

Hehe :) Well, on my desktop computer which I believe has a faulty motherboard, Virtual PC is crashing my system. In fact, it is triggering something that wakes up the glitch in the motherboard that causes the whole system to stall (not complete freeze though, and this remains until a reboot is performed) inside or outside Windows.

This ASUS notebook is a new machine, n50vn series and it's been running great, much better than the desktop (custom built).

Setup & Installation / Please Insert Demo CD - Live CD 1.2
« on: 2009.06.20, 14:23:07 »
Hi everyone,

Ok I am trying the Live CD 1.2 on a different system, this time on a really cool Asus notebook - dual core T9550. When I try to boot, after loading the the contents to RAM, I get a message, "Please Insert Demo CD"

Hey this is better than my desktop system where it just hangs....at least with this one, I get something, a message! :)

I really want to try this out so any assistance will be appreciated.

Well, in my case I can't even go beyond the splash screen with the 1.x version of the live CD.

Hmmm I don't speak Delphish :) I can only understand C++ and C/C++ like languages such as Java, D, JavaScript and even PHP.
Pascal syntax is too different when compared to C++. Btw, I also understand (it was what it truly started me off).

Something else make it run Windows programs! How? ReactOS! I reckon Windows programs will run better in eCS than ReactOS itself.

Yes correct but Windows was like that too, Linux was like that, Mac OS was like that. It's a step you have to go through.

You can't jump from the bottom to the top with one step. You have to climb there. Just like your work/job...

eCS source code developers should take things more seriously rather than relying on everyone else. Start spending time on OpenGL, make a port, tweak it, call it DirectEx or OpenX anything....What do you think MS did? They spent time and time to bring all these technologies. You can't just give up.

If I had the money, programming knowledge and skills I would do so much...and not just that but contact vendors, provide them with specs, surely something must turn out. I mean Linux was like this too.

Roderick, you should think more positive. Once 2.0 is released, there should be banner ads promoting the live CD. It's better than nothing. Even a TV ad demonstarting what eCS is and what it can do. When people see the familiar interface they might go "oh wow, this looks like Windows" yes but without the viruses, ah yeah, there is also drive letters. How do you install software? Easy, simply double click and follow the wizard. Works like Windows and it even has a taskbar but it's not Windows. You want developers? Provide free programming tools for it. I for the record am a developer and would not mind to try programming for eCS - making user/desktop apps. Then there will be other people. Release eCS programming documentation. I assume it will be similar to Windows and Windows developers might find it interesting...

You should be promoting stuff. I personally would be interested to find out if there are any RAD environments for this operating system (something like C++ Builder) and if there is something similar, I would find it easy to program as I have been using C++ Builder for quite some time. If there is not, ahh well, we will have to learn the new way. Either way, promotion matters.

Hi Warpcafe,

Thanks for that extensive reply.

3) I wish I could try the live CD. I have tried it once on my old computer.
Hmm, I don't get the point here - did it work on your old computer but is doesn't work on teh new one?

Yep, I tried it on my older PC (which is no longer usable as I have taken parts out) and the new one (3/4 years old) with an Dual Core E6600, 3GB RAM and nVidia card but it refuses to boot the system. You just see the eCS logo and it just hangs. You can wait for hours. Probably it's displayed some type of error msg in the background but the logo is on top or it is trying to scan something and it just hangs. I have a GA-965P-DS3 motherboard with a JMicron IDE controller. This motherboard when I first got it gave me a lot of troubles with JMicron on Linux (unable to recognize my DVD drives). Also to note, aside JMicron, this motherboard seems to be faulty as it gives me a lot of problems such as the temp of the chip reaching 60 cel, cutting off the processing as in, music breaking, processing time breaking and something like this: ____ __ __ ___ ____ __  and that happens even when you log out of Windows. If you ignore the symptoms, after like 3/4 minutes of cutting, Windows will just restart so I am not sure if I want to go with GIGABYTE again but people say good stuff about it...

I just managed to do my own multi boot CD (isolinux) with full USB support for DOS, NTFS read/write support, a big RAM drive etc :)

Hi Roderick,

Thanks for that! It's great to know its status.

Thanks for that guys, seriously I am so eager for eComStation, I love the way it works and looks. I wish I could try the live CD. I have tried it once on my old computer. Why doesn't Serenity Systems put more effort into advertising eCS? I don't know + people will have no trouble getting used to, a true Windows contender.
