OS/2 desktop hangs when accessing windows share

Got WSEB 4.52 up and running and had little difficulty getting OS/2 to see a shared drive on a windows 2000 computer.

I can open up the file and print client resource browser, select the windows computer and open the shared drive (\\VISION1211\OS2RIGHTHERE) and view the contents. If I try to copy files over or attempt to execute a file on the share, the OS/2 system may/will become unresponsive. The mouse moves around, but cannot bring any other windows into focus and I noticed  the seconds on the clock stop moving as well. A few times I've had to power cycle the server. If I'm lucky, I can control+esc several times and the system will close the shared drive icon view window and then the WPS will go away and come back, and things will be fine as long as I do not try to use that networked share. Any ideas on what's going on? I have not made any modifications to the network settings on the Windows box, and for that matter, have never had to make changes in Windows for any version of OS/2 I've networked to it.

Hi

This reply is lacking in detail due to a lack of Windows use over the past few years...

Somewhere in the network (F&P) settings you need to have a lanmanager compatability setting checked

There is also a Registry entry required but I cannot remember what at all...

I suggest a Google on os2 newsgroups as this is/was a common problem.

I also seem to recall that the above 2 steps help alleviate rather than fix the problem which I think is something to do with w2k not releasing unused/inactive network connections.

I realise the above is not very definitive but hope it helps a little  :-)
