Installing 4.52 w/ USB keyboard and mouse - laggs out?

I have a system that doesn't have any PS2 ports on it and am looking to install Warp 4.52 after setting the bios into compatability mode with it's SATA controller.  Installing off of the CDs.

All is fine and well until I need to use the keyboard - LVM starts pulling up and the keyboard is not taking my keystrokes as it should (has a significant delay of a minute or so, and seems to simply stop working).  Any ideas?

Yeah, check your BIOS for a Legacy USB devices option. Try turning it on or off, opposite whatever it is currently set. If that fails many mice come with a USB-> PS2 dongle and I have one or two lying around, not sure if they work for USB keyboards though.

Look for a legacy mode for your USB support in your BIOS to enable keyboard and mouse support in standard mode. After install, you can (if the USB chipset is supported) switch on the USB support in OS/2, and disable legacy support in the BIOS. That may require updating the (rather old) USB support in Warp v4.52 to something more recent though.

Failing having USB Legacy support (or USB Keyboard/Mouse support) in the BIOS, you would have to update the USB support on the install disk(s) and enabled the correct USB support in the installer's config.sys file.

Hope that helps,
Robert

Thanks for the fast responses!

I've torn through the GX620 configs and even flashed the bios from a03 to a11 ~ the problem is that I'm not seeing the legacy USB support / mode in the bios to change.  I even tried just having the keyboard hooked up, minus mouse.  Still acting the same way.  People have reported this same issue in Linux installations and have to launch a nousb options when installing, which lets them proceed with installing.  Is there a way to do this with the OS/2 installs?  Maybe even from floppy?

I can boot from USB flash drive and operate the USB keyboard in a dos mode and that works just fine (how I flashed the bios)

UPDATE - while searching and about to post a reply to this thread I found this:  http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/syslinux/users/7547

Maybe I just cannot install warp on this box?   ???

Can you find this A12 BIOS update?

On the Dell website, the A12 bios for the optiplex GX620 is not available.  There is no ETA on the A12 bios that Dell has indicated.

Not a deal-breaker.  I have a few machines left that do have PS/2 connectors that I can try to fumble around with.

Might there be a hardware solution? A USB gadget with PS/2 port that effectively fools BIOS into thinking it's real PS/2? (It seems a bit unlikely when stated, hmm.) Or, a PCI card with PS/2 ports? (I'm not seeing right off whether this is a portable or desktop.)

IIRC, those models all have a PS/2 header (on the motherboard). You just need to order the daughterboard from Dell. It plugs in to the motherboard and puts 2 PS/2 ports on the back of the machine (unless they stopped selling them since a couple years ago).

As per this post here:
http://www.motherboardpoint.com/t47687-optiplex-gx620-tower.html

The guy who posted (in the first post) referenced ordering the daughterboard option when he ordered the machine. I am guessing that means you can obtain one from Dell or from some other Dell Parts supplier for some nominal fee (he spent $10 when he ordered it with the computer).

Sorry it took so long to remember that. ddan's post jogged my memory.
