Create the following text file:

Product:    eComStation 1.2 English - Upgrade from eComStation 1.1 (CD1, CD2)

<USERNAME>
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
</USERNAME>
<REGKEY>
XXXXXXXXXXX - XXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXX - XXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXX - XXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXX - XXXXXXXXXXX
</REGKEY>

Copy and replace the X's with the information from your registration letter that was sent to you.

Name and save the file to something like

ecs12.reg

Once done, burn the file to a CD.  When you boot up and it asked for the registration number, remove the installation CD, put the registration key CD in and point the install to the location of the CD and file.  Once the registration comes up, remove the registration CD and put the installation CD back in before proceeding further.

The advantage of this is that the information was copied from your registration letter, so this reduces typing errors or guessing as to what a letter or number is.

I just typed the registration information into the install from the registration email I received, checked for errors, rechecked for errors, and checked again. It doesn't like the info. All typed info is correct. It seems like what you are suggesting would get me the same info, since I would have to manually type in all the registration info to the file I create on a cd for the import.

into a text file.  Then copy the sets of numbers from your registration letter over replacing the X's.  Then save it as a *.reg file.  By copying everything there is no second guessing or typing errors.

If this doesn't work, then you will need to contact whoever you bought it from for a new key.

David--
Thanks for the help. I got everything installed. Just trying to get my programs working.

An additional note:

To make things easier for myself, I use an ISO editor, and open the install disk with it. I then copy the registration file (or create one as DavidG outlined how to do) into the ISO as registration.key (or whatever name you want), then re-burn the disk.

Then, when I need to install (or update a system using the disk), I simply have it load the reg file from the CD instead of having to re-type the key or copy and paste the data in.

Keep in mind the file needs to be either the registration file as sent or created as DavidG outlined below.

Thanks, Robert. Turns out that the registration page didn't like me typing the username last instead of first. When I deleted all the reg info and typed the username first, then the reg info, it took it. Now all I need to do is get the doggone laptop to run the Restore function of Backmaster/2000 so I can restore my dbExpert files.

To save on retyping, you can download your registration key already formatted correctly as a reg.key file from your account on ecomstation.com.

Is there an ISO editor that runs on OS/2?  We have several readers but I've been looking for an editor for sometime.

Neat! Wish I knew that a while ago... that's what I get for not trying.

I suspect that MagicISO may work as well (as they actually seem to be nearly or entirely the same program).

MrJinx

What version of ultra ISO are you using? 9.3 as well as 6.1 load and display with Odin, But when you select an ISO file the app ends. Would like to use it.

Pete

Hi Mr Jinx

It may be a case of which Odin build do you have installed?

I just downloaded the current Ultra ISO build (9.3.2.2656) self executing installer and ran with Odin pe.exe from odin32bin-20060825-release-xp.zip

It installed with a few glitches - probably Odin missing the Windows bits required - and can then be run by dropping the ultraiso.exe file onto the (Odin) pe.exe file.

The dialog to select an iso file to open is slow to appear - and the contents of the iso file selected takes even longer to appear.

I tried to add to the iso image: Actions, Add directory; I successfully selected a directory to add, ultraIOS displayed an error about "EAccess Violation", I clicked OK and the app quit.

MagicISO installs fine using ar5os2.exe or pe.exe; Sadly it does not start or run with either though...

Pete

I use UltraISO 7.6.5.1225. I think I've tried MagicISO too which is an older version of UltraISO I think.

Dropping UltraISO.exe onto pe.exe and it starts nicely (beside the ugly bold menu text, but that's a minor issue). Menu 'Aktionen' 'Datei hinzufügen' (Action, Add File ?) works. I've added the eCS key file. File Save as and you've a new ISO image. Unfortunatly this image is way bigger than the original (701,339,040 original eCS2.0rc6 versus 750,010,368 with the 74 byte key file added) and do not fit on a CD anymore. So I've to used a DVD rewrittabel. But that's the same as when running under W2k. No clue why 74 bytes gives an 50000 byte bigger image. Dropping the .iso in a RSJ CD-View window, click record (?, Kopiervorgang starten) and you're done.

I think my odin installation is the last what's available. Probably I've installed UltraISO in a virtual W2k session and copied the whole tree over to eCS.

Hth,
Andi

Of course you can create an object derived from a command promt window like that -

RobertM

I wonder if extended attribute data has anything to do with it - and how Odin handles that.

Thank you... I had tried both UltraIso and MagicISO (as well as some others) without success.  I hadn't put a lot of time into it though so when you said that UltraISO worked I sat down and figured out it just didn't like the setupapi.dll and copying the one from my WinXP partition over got it working.
Thanks,
Andy
