Help!  I have OS/2 Warp 3 (Red Spine, not the Connect version) where the Install 3rd Install Disk labeled as Disk #2 is corrupt. I thought the disk was bad, because its format could not be read by Windows XP so I tried to use Norton Disk Docter to repair, but instead I wiped out a good disk. This version comes only on Floppy 3.5" and no CD, so I can't restore the image from the CD since there is none with this version.  I have not installed OS/2 yet, and can't until I can restore the data that was lost on disk #2.  I am unemployed so can't afford to purchase a newer version at this time, only want to get the version I have working first.  Can anyone help me with a disk image or a replacement disk?   I used to use OS/2 at work, but now I want it on my home computer.   I need to restore the data on the original disk which as it turns out is still a good disk, with the data mistakenly erased by Disk Doctor, then I can install it and start using OS/2 on my home computer.

Hi,

First of all DO NOT try and read any of the other disks with any windows based program - they are a special format that puts much more information on the disk - or you will damage the files on them.

Now to your problem.  I am assuming the first half dozen disks are the same for all versions of Warp 3.  If that is the case then e-mail me at ivanjt at free dot fr and I will send you a disk image and the necessary program - it will run in a dos window under windows - to make the disk.

Not true. Windows can't read them, they are in XDF format, but it won't damage them, unless the user does something silly, like try to fix them.

I am not sure if all diskettes are the same, or not. My warp3 came on CD, with boot diskettes to get it started (the diskette images are on it too). The diskette should have a part number on it. Something like 83G8438. Post that, and somebody should be able to send you the image. NOTE: that LOADDSKF (the tool required to make the diskette) will NOT run on Windows XP, and up (maybe not on NT, or 2000, either). It requires either OS/2, or DOS (including Win 9x, and ME).

I have indeed successfully run LOADDSKF on WinNT, Win2K and I believe XP. Maybe it depends on the version?

Not the version but the ability to run a DOS session. AFAIK, this need not to be a default condition on Neanderthal Technology and it may need some additional installing. Also, you need a direct access to diskettes from your DOS session. If the DOS session is okay, LOADDSKF will run.

Anyway, if you have DOS 98 somewhere around then install LOADDSKF on it. This will pass without unwelcome surprises.

LOADDSKF is only used for the first two disks - all the others are XDF format that requires XDFCOPY to copy them.

Radek

Sure. Note: xdformat and xdfcopy are also "dos - os/2" apps and can be run from DOS or DOS session. It's a very long time I run these apps so that I am not sure now: can xdfcopy make an image of a  XDF diskette? If it can then RJD00IS needs
- normal images of the first two diskettes plus loaddskf, and
- XDF image of the third one plus both xdfcopy and xdformat.
