Hi Everyone,
I was wondering what your opinion is regarding the ecomstation software subscription for a home user.
I was thinking mathematically it seems to costs more then just buying an upgrade at each stable release- since it appears serenity has released 1 new stable version about every 2 years or more historically. So with the software subscription your paying $50 every year (so about $100 between new releases) whereas you could just wait and upgrade every two years for $69 assuming of course they don't change prices.

Right now I have 1.2R, and if I subscribe now I can get V2 and 12 months of updates.

I'm new to the world of os/2 though so i'm not sure if I am missing something.

Personally, I think its worth it. I have subscription for both eCS and Open Office. Its an easy way to be upgraded. Between the stable releases you also get driver updates, utilities and applications like Lucide, Eschemes and so on. You can also grab the eCS betas and test new features. Another motivation for me is to show a longterm support for eCS and Open Office. Well I'm really quite satisfied with the subscription-thing!

I have to agree with Mikael.  The cost is cheap for what you get.

As a rather broke college kid, I managed to fork over the cash to buy a license of eCS and the subscription services, granted, I got the student/warp4 discount, but its still pricey. I have to say that for a hobby OS, I feel like this was money well spent. I enjoy OS/2 and all its quirks and limitations, and I love feeling like beta testing and submitting feedback will actually help OS/2 to continue living on, despite what all the linux people may say about it being dead.
