Hi people.

I have a cnc machine at work that runs OS/2 4 WARP, I found how to clone the disk and works.

The issue is that that version doesn't accept hard disk bigger than 6.4GB.

I have learn how to install os/2 4 with the updated disks that ibm site give us and they help me install os/2 4 warp on bigger hard disks which is good.

But what I want to is?, how can I update my current system hard disk drivers to support large disk without reinstalling everything because we don't have the machine setup disk just the current disk.

Or exist service packs like windows that help me?

Thanks  ???

ivan

Part of the answer to your question, yes there are fix packs that IBM supply for Warp4 which allow it to run on newer hardware, but you would need to test on another computer just to make sure that everything works with your CNC machine.

If all you want is to update for larger disks that can be accomplished by using the files from idedasd.exe (self extracting zip) you can get from http://www.os2site.com/sw/drivers/ide/index.html (scroll down as necessary) which will give you support for up to 500GB disks.

Again take care to read the readme file and test on a non critical system.

If you have any more questions come back and ask.

Hi

A computer numerical control (CNC) ? I will really like if you can post more details of which kind of machine it is and which OS/2 software is using.

I will like to recommend you to try to get OS/2 Warp 4.52 or eComStation 2.1, with this two version you won't get the nightmare to update the diskettes because it included the large disk support and boot from CD.

If you really need Warp 4 installed as diskettes. Maybe you can try this file.

Check on the readme " 2.1  Updating the Installation Diskettes" It list the procedure to update the diskettes.

I'm not sure if this is the final file for this since I haven't used Warp 4 In a long time. I prefer Warp 4.52 or eComStation 2.1.

...I'm trying to find a page that list all the patching that had to be done once you install Warp 4, but I can't find it now.

Great guys, looks like is possible.

ivan, I will take care about this, I have 2 clone disk working, I will try there first, thanks for your help and tip.

miturbide the cnc machine is a Thermwood 91000 with siemens control.

Is a good machine, I will like to install the latest 4.52 os/2 but I don't have any installation software for this machine, is critical for me to have backups disks, will be a little difficult to move the current setup to a new installation.

One funny thing, the programmer had issues with notepad from windows, there u have fixed numbers of lines, some programs are bigger than the limit of notepad, I start working with OS/2 and found a editor called "e", there we don't have limits will we still haven't not found it , the programmer was happy and forget about notepad, because before he has to break the file into pices and was a pain in the head hahahahahahaha. Love OS/2.

Thanks all, I will let u know my results  ;D

klabacita please let me know the results.

Take a full backup of the OS/2 image. The good thing is that if you don't have the programs installer and drivers, there is a good chance that if you only copy the files to a newer OS/2-eCS it will work.

I'm curious to see one of that machines working with OS/2.

I was curious about this kind of machine and I search a little bit about it.

I wanted to see some screenshot of the OS/2 app running , or the machine running with OS/2. I found this PDF that I'm attaching here. There is some screenshots of the "Block Text Machine Program".

nice ;)

   Of course.

I tested yesterday with a 8GB drive and works, I will test today with a 160GB size, this my goal.

I will show u the pictures of the machine running.

   Thanks  ;D

Phase 1 done: I clone my current system (6.4GB size) into a hard drive 160GB with the IDE driver updated and is running, no issue.

Before I try to make this, but I just copy the files and did't work, the readme is clear, but we don't need to install DDPACK, went I did this the system stop with at boot with register errors.

We are running the CNC machine right now, before the end of this week I will test the disk and let u know the results,if it boots in my current machine must boot there.

Thanks ivan/miturbide I will let u know the final phase  :D
