Before I put the CD into my computer

The reality is forcing me to install Sqeeze (Debian 6). Lenny (Debian 5) is now "obsolete" and the only updatesfor Lenny are "backports" from Squeeze. Last time I have to completely reinstall Lenny after attempting to upgrade Flash Player. Okay, I hear, why haven't I put the CD into my machine so far?

Because Sueeze uses GRUB 2. Therefore, putting the CD into my machine = asking for troubles. AFAIK, (a) GRUB 2 installs itself on the MBR even if it is commanded to install on a partition, and (b) GRUB 2 isn't compatible with LVM. What to do?

(1) I haven't suppose GRUB 2 is now able to boot eCS. I am right, ain't I? Let us leave this possibility.

(2) Air-Boot. Is Air-Boot able to "boot" GRUB 2? If it is, then:

(a) Do not install BM.
(b) Install eCS.
(c) Install Air-Boot.
(d) Install Squeeze.
(e) Add Squeeze to Air-Boot.

Right? Notes: (a) I have RC6a. I plan eCS 2 later, with new iron. (b) I have 2 HDs, one of them containing eCS and the other containing Debian. Therefore, if GRUB 2 installs on the MBR of the second disk then I could pass somehow.

(3) Squeeze contains the "legacy" GRUB 0.97 . It would be terrific if it were possible to tell the installation that I want the "legacy" GRUB 0.97 and that I want it on a partition. But - is it possible? If not then I need to install the "legacy" GRUB from Squeeze. If it is possible to get the "legacy" GRUB on a partition, then:

(a) Install Squeeze.
(b) Install GRUB 0.97
(c) Install BM.
(d) Install eCS.
(e) Add Squeeze to BM.

Right?

Has anybody experience with eCS and Squeeze on the same computer?

Radek

Okay, answering myself  ;D

(1) It is possible to install both eCS and Debian Squeeze on the same computer! Here is one such computer :)
(2) GRUB 2 is not guilty for problems with installation! GRUB 2 is okay. Install GRUB 2 on the root partition.
(3) The one who causes problems is Debian fdisk. But this is nothing new: make a partition with Lenny fdisk and LVM will stop talking with you.
(4) Trap! Debian Squeeze fdisk numbers partitions from 1 and partition #1 is the last partition on the disk. When installing, note carefully which partition is your root!

Glad you got it sorted out.  From what I've heard GRUB2 is a PITA at the best of times.
