Desktop gone... how do I boot in VGA or safe mode?

I migrated my OS/2 Warp installation from the Elonex P166 to the Celeron 400 this evening, but the new PC system seems to have thrown the installation a bit. First I tried it with the Matrox G400 video card already present in the Celeron 400 PC, but when I booted it my monitor said "VGA mode not support". I then moved the Trident 9440 PCI graphics card (which had the drivers installed in OS/2) from the Elonex to the Celeron. I booted the system up and got nothing except a nice bright turquoise screen. No icons or mouse arrow. Is there a safe mode or VGA mode I can boot into? If so, I might be able to try the Matrox again.

First question.  How did you do the migration?  Without knowing that it is very difficult  to know how to advise you.

If you just moved the hard drive from the old to the new then alt/F1 at the boot blob (the white block with OS/2 beside it) will get you to a screen which allows the setting to VGA.  If you didn't do that then STOP and tell us what you did before you wreck what you have.

Continuing on what Ivan said:

Once you totally describe what you did and get that resolved. Here is my experience with a G400.

I used a G400 for a long time without any problems (warp4), it has native drivers for Warp and you can probably still find them on the net. However, I don't know about using a G400 with warp 3 or any version of eCom and I think you need fixpak 30 to use SNAP with warp 3 and fixpak 5 for warp 4.  I would try to find the native drivers for your G400.

Here are the driver for OS/2:

Does anyone have a working link to SNAP 3.xx and the freeware serialnum, the links at Scitech do not work anymore?

Hi Ivan and Greggory,
thank you for your input. To answer the question of how I did the migration, all I did was uplift the hdd and transplant it. I wasn't convinced it would even boot in the new machine, but after some careful experimentation (blind flailing around, that is) I got to VGA mode and then reinstalled the Matrox G400. I was lucky enough to have a Matrox installation CD lying around. Unfortunately my CD ROM drive does not show up in Warp, so I copied the relevant OS/2 driver files from the CD to a floppy disc, copied them into a folder on the Warp PC, and installed the G400 drivers from a folder. I now have 1024x768 and true colour on my Warp 3 PC. So my call for help was more of a sudden panic!

However.... my Windows 3.11fw subsystem has now developed comically large title bars and control buttons! With my Trident 9440, which was set at 1024x768 with 256 colours, it looked perfect, so I'm not sure how this has come about. Any clues on this? Should I reinstall Windows?
