! YES! Does this mean that eCS will finally be able to authenticate with the NT Windows servers and finally be able to see them and browse them in the Network Requester?!

Being lazy here; but you wouldn't happen to have url to the original MS posting?

I don't think that will help... the Network Requester is not likely to be updated as only IBM and MS have the code to it.  It will help Samba.  Though Samba is being actively worked on for OS/2 it will not integrate into the Network Requester to the best of my knowledge.

Aw. I thought that the EVFS and Samba package would allow the Network Requester to view SMB shares properly :C

RobertM

While Samba may not be integrated into IBM's Network Requester, it shouldnt be too difficult to create a container that shows both Samba shares and Requester shares... I think each are easily queryable.

Wait, so how did I see my XP share on eCS using the File and Folder Browser? Isnt that using the old SMB protocol that cant see any WinNT shares?

Using NetBIOS over TCP/IP (and one Windows registry setting change) you can see the XP shares on the eCS box (and vice-versa). And through installing NetBIOS (non-TCP version)  on an XP machine, you can do the same as well, though there are new "bugs" in the NetBIOS driver that MS added which cause conflicts with certain shares - which insist on trying to use NetBIOS over TCP/IP for communication even with the protocol disabled (mostly printers).

Right. But I did NOT use the Windows registry change, nor do I have NetBios (non-TCP) installed on WinXp.

So what happened here?

So, you are - or are not using Samba? And I don't think you need the registry change for NetBIOS over TCP/IP - unless it's a server you are connecting to. Haven't tried it in a while though...

I dont think I used Samba. I just logged into workgroup with the IBM peer utility, then used File Print Resource Browser and Viola, XP was visible.

Got it... :) That's normal. No domain to log into... and using NetBEUI (NetBIOS/TCPIP). Authenticating against a server are different and/or using Vista shares may be different.

How come at school I can never see anything but OSX machines on my network under OS/2 then? And right now, I cant see my other XP box :C

I can see this computer (WinXP) using eCS under VPC2007. I cant, however, see my other XP machine using eCS although this XP machine can see the other XP machine.

Edit: Changed my other XP machine to be under the same workgroup (WORKGROUP) and now I can see it. Sweeeet :D

How can I see other computers that are not under the Workgroup WORKGROUP? Or cant I?

Whats up with some of the shares showing up twice in eCS?

RobertM

I've seen the shares issue as well (duplicates). I think it happens if a share is reported and then "abruptly" disconnected (whether due to network, system reset, etc), and then a new share of the same name is created - and the old one is left in the folder. Sometimes, hitting refresh from the folder menu will remove the duplicate - sometimes not. No idea why. Usually (for me) one of the duplicates does not work.

I don't recall how to join another (or multiple) workgroups on eCS... hopefully someone else does. My mind's not all here at the moment...

Good Luck.
