This is not really an answer to your question, but for me a problemfree way to burn dvd:s has bees to use:

CDrecord/2 2.0
Audiocdcreator 0.56
using aspirouter

in combination with dvddao 1.0

OK, but on wich system ?  I've installed and used for lot of burned disc's without any single problem on OS/2 FP15, but now I'm migrate to eCS 1.2, install same drivers, and use same dvddao.exe like on Warp without same result; good and reliable DVD data disk at the end. :(
At least, You give me an idea, to try with CDrecord too.

A few things I have noticed when dealing with eCS over WSEB.

1) Make sure you are using the newest version of DANI's IDE drivers (assuming they are supported on your system)
2) Make sure you are using the newest filters to go along with them.
3) You can try upping the priority of dvddao (command line option).
4) Try loading dvddao from a fullscreen session and see if that helps.

I had similar problems as you did which mostly went away with the newest versions of dvddao and dani.  However, especially if I have firefox opened at the same time it is sometimes necessary to up dvddao's priority.

Hello Robert,

>1) Make sure you are using the newest version of DANI's IDE drivers (assuming they are supported on your system)

This is only thing I wasn't check yet.

Which filters ? Aspirout ? Where to find newest ?

>3) You can try upping the priority of dvddao (command line option).

No way, i've now understand that I failed using aspirout and aspinkk (can not find address with n,n,n), and with OS2CDROM.DMD (using driveletter) result in most cases with burning DVD without even 1 Kb of data acctualy written on media (toc pass ok.).

As on the other side cdrecord burn without single problems, I've not so interested to try much more with DVDDAO because I've got an unussable media every time I've tried. :)  Only, to try again with never Danis, it may really help.

I've just noticed that I have in my config.sys
DANIATAP.FLT
and not DANIATAP.ADD as it say in aspinkk.sys readme file.
Should I replace FLT with ADD, or just add ADD?  My old Warp4 was working with FLT  without ADD, but maybe eCS needs like it is written in readme ?

Also, here is little helper script for burning, in case anyone want to try.

I do not think there is any DANIATAP.ADD --only the filter DANIATAP.FLT (or DANIATAPI.FLT). Probably the one you are referring to is the Dani1s506.add which is certainly needed.

You may want to check your CONFIG.SYS for any other instances of the ATAPI filter --and that includes the IBMIDECD.FLT-- and rem out any of those (yes, by placing a REM and space statement in front):

REM <the superfluous filter driver>

Make sure that only the DANIATAP.FLT is the only one left.

Additionally, since you mention that you can burn without problems with CdRecord/2, it does appear that you have the correct DaniDasd.dmd --so that extreme is ok, probably.

I believe that in the DVDDAO zipped package there is a utility that will install for you the ASPI required driver(s), please read the enclosed instruction files.  As long as you take care of the Dani derived filters/drivers the DVDDAO usully does a good job installing its end of responsibilities.

...best!

Robert Deed

When I was reffering to "filters" I mean to use the correct version of the daniatapi with the correct version of dani's drivers (the newer drivers do not work with the older filter..  (that would be the driver with the .flt extension)..

Raising the priority of dvddao makes a HUGE ability to successfully burn discs.  I myself have had disks fail during the opening of the toc if the priority is too low.

Hey, I am not going to say dvddao is the best written piece of software out there, I have burnt plenty of coasters with it, the only reason I continue with it is that I can burn dvdvideo discs which work in every player I have put them in, even my pioneer P7500DVDII (in car dvd player) which is known to completely not read copied discs.

Hi cyber

Looking through these posts I must ask you to post buildlevels of os2cdrom.dmd and os2dasd.dmd ie

[H:\OS2\BOOT]bldlevel os2cdrom.dmd
Build Level Display Facility Version 6.12.675 Sep 25 2001
(C) Copyright IBM Corporation 1993-2001
Signature:       @#IBM:10.163#@  Device Manager Driver for CDROM
Vendor:          IBM
Revision:        10.163
File Version:    10.163
Description:     Device Manager Driver for CDROM

[H:\OS2\BOOT]bldlevel os2dasd.dmd
Build Level Display Facility Version 6.12.675 Sep 25 2001
(C) Copyright IBM Corporation 1993-2001
Signature:       @#IBM:14.104#@ IBM DASD Manager
Vendor:          IBM
Revision:        14.104
File Version:    14.104
Description:     IBM DASD Manager

The above builds work fine

Some earlier builds of os2cdrom.dmd are absolute crap and I seem to recall that 1 of those crap builds was part of the eCS1.2R install...

You do not mention applying any updates to eCS1.2R - have you applied any fixpacks? (I think fp5 is later than the 1.2R code level) Use the ECSMT tool to download and apply fixpacks/updates - you probably need to download and apply the latest eCSMT 1st though.

Another thought is that you mention RSJSCSI therefore you have the RSJ software installed? Do you have it setup so that it does NOT "hog" the burner? Read the DANATAPI.DOC for several possible solutions. Note that just REMming the RSJSCSI.SYS line is not a cure...

Hope the above is of use

Pete

CDRWSel

DVDDAO works great under eCS 1.2 and up.

Here are some lines of my config.sys ( I have RSJ installed too and needed to add some extra parms on *.FLT driver )
...
BASEDEV=DANIATAP.FLT /A:3 /U:0 /RSJ
( check physical position to determine A: and U: Dani's tool included with the drivers will help you for this information )
...
BASEDEV=OS2ASPI.DMD /ALL /SHARE   ( add both flags )

About ASPIROUTE, I just added this one.
DEVICE=G:\ECS\BOOT\ASPIROUT.SYS    ( in hobbes aspirb10.zip )
new aspi from dvddao can be applied but it is optionnal. In this case, specify which ASPIROUT is used *into DVDDAO
command. --aspidriver aspirou$
Of course, both ASPIROUTE can be installed and used.
I use DANIS506.ADD too .

May be you need to add the --stopformat command into DVDDAO parms. I had to add it with a plextor burner or format never end and DVD is then unreadable except when openning it with RSJ   ;)

A last important info: use the print option of mkisofs to get the size in blocks of the ISO file and add it as DVDDAO parameter --size xxxxxxxx

Here is a sample I use:
mkisofs.exe ................ | dvddao.exe -d 2,1,0  --aspidriver aspirou$ --nopause --verify --nogetperf --noconfig --size 40767s -v 2 --stdout - >G:\var\log\~DvDDAO.LOG
If format is used, add the stopformat too.

If you are interested, you can send me an email and You can try tu use my GUI interface which add default parameters I found usefull to support long filename and readable under other OS.

CDRWSel.
Please, use the email address available into the older CDRWSel package on hobbes and be sure to specify
CDRWSel for TEST into the email subject field or it will be deleted from incoming mail.

Latest news: I was able to burn BD-RE after some exchange with DVDDAO author and my drive is an LG SATA BD-RE burner + HD-DVD reader.

DVDDAO works great under eCS 1.2 and up.

It is something I expected, but I cant find right combination.  I somehow got an impression that none of You read from begining. ;) Anyway for "dvddao.exe -d 2,1,0", is it possible to find address by some tool ?  CDrecord have -scanbus option, and find corect address of device, on my previous system (Warp4) CDrecord and DVDDAO use different address and both work correct, i just can find wich address should fit DVDDAO now. I have
1st ctrl prim master HDD
1st ctrl prim slave DVD rom
3rd ctrl prim master HDD
4th ctrl prim master HDD

As I wasn't able to find wich n,n,n address will work with DVDDAO, I've tried with driveletter (S) and it almost working, except that written kilobytes stays on 0 until end of disc. :(

Ok,

How to find the id's (address) n,n,n to use  ?
Well, it is very easy when you know it  Wink

DVDDAO uses an aspi driver.
I suggest you to get cdrtools package from nickk which uses aspi driver too and then the right n,n,n values.
Do not use the new cddvdrtools to find n,n,n because it didn't use aspi driver and may return wrong
id's n,n,n

( into my latest cdrwsel testbuild, I added a XML autogenerated mapping file using values from cdrecord2 and cdrecord from cddvdrtools to use "latest" cdrecord.exe without aspi driver. Cdrwsel makes the right selection then)

From nickk package, you'll have CDRECORD2
Run it with following parameter like you wrote : cdrcord2 -scanbus
You'll get all CD-ROM ( HD burner as well as DVD are flag as CD-ROM with device name)
at beginning of each line, you'll have the n,n,n to use for you burner   Wink

.

Hum, napalm looks to be a nice os/2 window interface.

CDRWSel has many more option now than the latest available on hobbes. You can view the tree like it will be burned on the media, you can change media dir destination name into the project before burn etc...
I did more work on the ffmpeg/dvdauthor part too. There are direct video file conversion to prefixed format like PSP, PDA, VLC etc.. and, if enabling video_dvd+ ffmpeg+dvdauthor option, avi or mpg etc... are converted using one drag/drop into the project as a burnable video dvd with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. Burn and the video_dvd is ready.
Create audio CD from mp3 or ogg tracks, burn CD from an ISO file, It call call the gendiff to update existing iso file (e.g. eCS diff files )

About dvddao, wait next release which will be ok to burn BD-R(E)
The testbuild I used for my all tests. latest tests using one of the format type gives me 100% success
I will test other kind of format and report to nickk.

DVD multisession not available now.

The testbuild with all new function is only available on request for test.
help file and docs are not full updated now.

bye/2
Remy
