Anyone else like, stupid excited about the stuff in this PDF presentation?

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/events/DWS2008/09_dws2008-ui-02.pdf

These are all things that eCS is sorely missing IMO, and I'd really love to see them in eCS 2.0 GA. Anyone else have any other info on this stuff they'd like to share with me?

Edit:
Especially Slide 16, about the multi-group container folder class. That's the most important feature of XP to me. I have every folder as Show by Groups (File Type) so I can find my files with ease. Plus, thumbnail previews of images/videos, this would be heaven indeed. The new progress bars are awesome, as are the suggestions for the new file dialogs. Oi, the new tasklist replacement with window previews. More or less the shit :P Thats why I use coolswitch for XP. Improved clip-board with preview, a nice touch. Myself, I'd like to see system-wide support of copy/paste images. Firefox seems to have this disabled in OS/2, its very lame :C

Again, very excited to see any of these features soon!

The Blue Warper

Hi, Saijin_Naib!

I read that presentation too.  It looks very promising, so let's wait and see...
In the meantime, I would suggest a few alternatives to you:

1) multi-group container class:
yes, I agree, this is a very useful feature.  I wonder if the images published in the PDF presentation are actual 'real-world' snapshots or something like a 'proof of concept', a "this is what we'd like it to be'.  Anyway, there's already something similar to this under OS/2 WPS: an IBM EWS WPS class, called "Group Folder", which allows one to split folders into arbitrary groups: i.e., IIRC, you can't have your folder's contents automatically sorted (but I not 100% sure about this).  I installed it under Warp 4 years ago, and I found it very handful, but when I upgraded my hardware I forgot to reinstall it.  Maybe it could do your job, but it's your choice.  One drawback is that it comes with no explicit deinstall program, though I think one can regularly uninstall it by deregistering its WPS class.  You can find it here: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/gfoldr.zip

2) thumbnail preview of images/videos:
Warp 3 (or was it an even earlier version?) introduced a new class, called Lightfolder: it's a special folder class that displays thumbnails of all pictures and videos (and, based on where you clicked - on the frame or on the icon - you could edit or display the image or video).  It was, in a way, very similar to the thumbnail preview one can find in WinXP (though Warp had it years earlier...).  Now, for whatever reason, this feature no longer worked on eCS.  But there are some alternatives, AFAIK:
        a) WPS Wizard ( ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/wps-wizard );
        b) Imagination (from eSchemes Deluxe: http://en.ecomstation.ru/projects/eschemes-deluxe/?action=desc )
Please note that their preview procedures are not compatible with each other, so you may want to try them separately.

3) New file-dialogs:
    XFile ( http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/system/xfile14.zip ) provides an enhanced Open/save file-dialog, though I think I never tried it myself.
Another 'extended' file dialog could be GBMDLG, part of the Generalised Bitmap Module, ported by Heiko Nitzsche ( http://heikon.home.tlink.de/ ).
MSE has an enhanced file dialog too: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/mouse/mse1_38.zip

4) tasklist replacement with window previews:
nothing to suggest here, sorry.  This would be an interesting add-on for (OS2)/eCS.  I think some Firefox add-on engine like Showview and the like could be used as a basis for that.

5) Improved clipboard with preview:
while I agree that the clipboard design conceived by Eugene is much more advanced, you might want to try ClipView ( http://www.deezee.org/ClipView.html ), which offers many clipboard utilities, including multiple clipboards (though limited to text clipboard).  Here you'll find a screenshot: http://www.ecomstation.it/ecsoft2/viewImg.php?progId=910&imgId=4093429915 , and here a review (v2.9; current is 3.2): http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0405H/vnewsf3.htm.

Hopefully you can find something useful here till we have some reworked/updated/enhanced alternatives.

Bye!

Don't be nipped by extra baggage fees!

Due to the soaring cost of fuel, many airlines are imposing additional fees for checked baggage. Some of these new fees kick in for flights booked after June 15, so register for Warpstock 2008 early, and book your flights as soon as possible.

Here are some of the airline policies as reported by American Express:

http://www.warpstock.org/article.php?story=baggage_fees

Hmmmm.... there goes the "cut backs/budget cuts" on certain domestic spending to help pay for the "baggage fees"... as a result of increased fuel charges for airline travel. At least, so they say!  8)

To repeat...

if you are going to Warpstock 2008!  ;)

Best regards.

Excellent, I must give this a try in the mean time, thanks!

Lighttable works for me, but only for images [not movies] that have IOprocs in OS/2. Also, its only if you put the images IN a lighttable object, you cant simply turn this feature on or off a normal folder, which is bothersome because I have a ton of images on my RO NTFS drive. I, at one point, replaced my camera's DCIM folder with a DCIM lighttable, and it was great until the IOproc or the WPS, not sure which, crashed and took my memory card with it. I lost all my pictures and needless to say, I'm rather pissed and will not be using Lighttable again for anything I care about :\

Thanks, will have to try some of these out. I actually never had the GBM extended menu thing actually work at all as it said. It only draws a blank placeholder, not the image. = worthless.

I'd really like to see this with LIVE updating, ala Flip3d and WDM. I think eCS could do it, and it'd certainly be cool, if not any more functional. Myself, I just like the idea of it :P

Cool, will have to check that out. Why can't we copy/paste images in eCS? I want that ability :\ I dont like having to save everything just to work with it.
