Launchers...

Ben

Greetings, all.

I'm looking for a program launcher to replace Object Desktops Tabpad... I'm trying to get away from Object Desktop if I can and I'm experimenting with my maintanence partition, using it as a test bed.

I've gone through everything that I can find on hobbes and I was surprised to see only a few items apply for the job... none of them had the right resume though.  ;)

Presently I'm testing C.W.'s Bubblepad 10.7 enhancer for the WPS Launchpad, but I find the base program, (Launchpad), to be lacking. The new Bubblepad 1.09, (Piano Pad), is a contender, but really is still an enhanced Launchpad... at least in terms of functionality.

What I really miss is the "tabbed" part of ODs Tabpad. While the drawers are nice they aren't exactly what I'm looking for.

Is anyone aware of something that might fit the bill?

Thank-you

EugeneGorbunoff

Hey gang... here's the part that I think is key.

It sure is, though I'll accept anything that replicates its efficiency. It's like having many launchpads on top of each other and easily accessed.

Also, I addressed Piano (Launch)pad in my original post.

Object Desktop has a number of features that I can't find elsewhere... even after all these years, which is why I've stuck with it despite the inherent instability that it brings with increased functionality, to the WPS Desktop.

Every couple of years I try to find something to replace one, or some, of its key components. However, OS/2 remains inactive in those areas where Object Desktop shines save the XWorkplace Pager component.

Hmm... Stardock is doing fairly well in the Windows arena these days with Object Desktop. I wonder if Mr. B. Wardall is feeling like throwing a few crumbs to his ol' OS/2 buddies...

I know much of that software was out-sourced by Stardock, but one hopes, not all of it was...

I we could get him to GPL what he does own...

I wonder if anyone in our little community is still in contact with him...

Ben,

Failing that (and BW doesnt seem too keen on OS/2 anything anymore), you may want to try to see if someone can simply write a folder sub/super class... I see no reason a folder cannot do what you want (with a little bit of work)

Or perhaps consider a custom use of WPSWizard.

Ben,

Here's something that replicates the efficiency, if not the look:

http://xoomer.alice.it/acantato/apps/tabtray/tabtray.html

It's an add-on for xWP's "Icon Tray" that creates a button strip next to the "Icon Tray" that you use to change the tray you are on.
