s the biggest PC vendor in the world looking to give customers an option besides Windows?.......................

Phil McKinney, CTO of HP's Personal Systems Group, didn't deny the company is looking into it, but said it didn't make much sense to build its own operating system. "Is HP funding a huge R&D team to go off and create an operating system? (That) makes no sense," he told BusinessWeek.

It would have been really neat (as the BWG would say) if HP could have continued with the OS/2 Operating System (one of the best Operating System - at least at one time if that is not now the case) where IBM left off and this might have been a really smart move by HP.

What are the opinions of others about this HP move to have its own Operating System like Mac.!

Best regards.

I think it is neat that they want a non-Win os like Apple. It would be neater if it was more like OS/2-eCS. :)

"They're not the only ones. Asus makes a motherboard called P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP. It allows a PC to boot directly to Windows or any other operating system installed on the hard disk. Basically this alternative operating system, provided by DeviceVM to Asus, is another way to do an end-run around Windows."
It mentions this part. It is not HP but Asus. It mentions booting to any os and not just Windows.   8)
