Hello.

I have a problem with my new Hardware.
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 (Chipset AMD770/SB600) with 4GB-RAM (Kit with 2x2GB).
I can Install (RC5) only with one 2GB-Module. If 4GB built in, the installation gos all correct until the first reboot. The system starts, I see a very short moment the OS/2 box at the top left end and then restart the computer.
When I built in one RAM-Module (2GB) the installation was o.k. After the installation I built in the other RAM-Module: the same error with restart.
Have anyone an idea?

P.S. Sorry about my bad English. I hope you understand my question.

Greetings, rollo42.

I had a similar problem with a similar board.

As it turned out, one of the sticks had bad breath and my motherboard said; "No!"

Have you tried substituting individual RAM sticks, (one at a time), to see if one causes problems?

I'm using 4 gigs in two sticks here without problems.

Hello  Ben.

I have buy the two RAM-Modules as a Kit.
I have installed the Modules in any directions. As dual  and as single, in channel one and channel two. Avery  the same, only one RAM-Module works.
Under Windows both modules works.

A few thoughts:
(1) 4 GB is the maximum which you can address with 32-bit addresses. AFAIK, eCS does not use PAE, so that 4 GB is the real maximum.
(2) The last valid physical address in your machine is 0FFFFFFFF. The (flat) segment size is this value plus one. If something attempts to add one to this value, the result will overflow and you get zero. This could be misinterpreted as "no memory present" among others.
(3) There is also "non system memory" (adapter RAM, adapter ROM, etc.) in your machine, which must be mapped somewhere. But where? All available addresses are already occupied by your RAM. This can be another source of fatal conflicts.
Summarizing the thoughts: Something gets confused by your 4 GB of RAM. IMO, you see the "OS/2 box" until the loader tries to build page tables and to switch to protected mode. Then the loader crashes and pulls the emergency brake. IMO, 4 GB or RAM isn't a good idea as long as eCS is concerned.
I can be completely wrong. I have 2 GB and I've never tried 4 GB.
